Not sure if anyone pointed it out yet but Spanish isn’t even her first language, English is. She was criticized for her “Spanglish” but she flipped it on the media and critics and turned it into a strength rather than a weakness.

I can’t deal with the fact she’s gone. It used to keep me up at night as a teenager. I was a kid when she passed and it took years for me to shake off the she’s gone . So thankful for her music still resounding till this day and you reacting to her music.

This is by far one of my most favorite of her performances. Something about her just hooks you in! Her voice, the way she dance, her aura, everything! Her brother AB is the one who produces her music, lyrics and all. Back then you will never make it in the tejano music scene if you don't sing (speak) in spanish. She sings all her songs phonetically and always speaks spanish the wrong way but no one ever corrects her because it's part of her charm. She'd be the one correcting herself if she ever notice it and laugh it off 😅 It will be her 25th anniversary on the 31st, I know you've done a lot of Selena reaction but I'm really hoping you'd do some more? She's celebrated longer than she's alive. Thank you for keeping her memories alive, Jack!

She didn’t really make too many mistakes. Spanish is probably the easiest language to reproduce phonetically, once you get the R/RR rolls, because it only has 5 vowel sounds.

Excellent observations and analysis, Jack. I'm 60 and just became aware of her. Finding so many great performances and interviews. Never seen a more complete or captivating PERFORMER. Developed and evolved from 8 yrs old and blossomed in her 20's. She had everything you could want in an entertainer. "Cumbia Medley (Como La Flor, La Carcacha, Bidi Bidi Bom Bom & Baila Esta Cumbia)" is a mix of several songs from several performances and showcases her fashion sense, which were probably her own designs. Also, her dancing was self taught. There is no one comparable. Exceptionally talented and charismatic.

She was so passionate and expressive

She is singing about how she once loved the guy and realized she must have been crazy. That the guy did not know what true love was or how to love. That the love she had for him is now a thing of the past. That everything she did for him he took for granted. She will never love him again.

Selena was absolutely unreal. Her voice, her presence, energy, stamina. She was gorgeous but also super unproblematic. Too good for this world, apparently.

I love that youre getting in to her and seeing why shes so iconic. She is just up there and her talent, persona, and beauty cant be touched. Can you react to her biddi biddi bom bom performance at the TMAs?

The really awesome thing about Selena is that she singing all of this live and it sounds like it could’ve been recorded in the studio. Every time she sings it sounds like that. A lot of performers cannot do that awesome live. Plus she’s so beautiful and it’s so sad that she has been gone for 25 years. Wow there was so much more she would’ve done. RIP Selena.

She had some great "break-up" lyrics

This song is a break up song (which is why she’s so serious), the overall message and meaning is about regretting to love someone. “If at one point I said I love you and that I would give up my life for you, today I regret it and I will never do it again”. This is just one part of the lyrics but that’s the overall meaning of the song.

One of my all -time favorite songs from her and that break down at the end with the runs...YAAASSSSSS!!!!! OH the song is called If One Time. It has a little different meaning in spanish for in our lauguage one word could mean different things by how you say it. So to try and break it down in english isn't as passionate as the song really is but basically the hook is If I once had said I loved you, today I regret it. Basically she is telling her guy that if at one time she did certain things to show her love and he didn't appreciate it she now regrets it. SO that break at the end she said "that mistake " and the ending run "is something of yesterday." Hope that gives you some idea when you hear the song again. :)

She was so very talented and to die so young was a tragic, and I didn’t really know about her until I saw the movie Selena then I looked her up listen to all her videos looked at all the documentation on her and she was a sweetheart, and for her life to end so young and so tragic what a f___king waste

She loved playing with notes and playing with the crowd!!! She did the same thing in the beginning of Como La Flor, the song normally doesn't start off so slow. I also love how she can sing the same song but each concert/show will not be preformed the same way.
