@@lisamb4269actually, Chris states in his book that they BOTH studied Spanish as adults bc they were determined to be fluent. Selena surpassed him in skill.

This band was a family affair, her sister played the drums, her brother played the bass, and wrote most of the songs she made famous, her husband played the lead guitar, her dad was the manager of the band. She learned Spanish for her fan, English was her first language. She was an amazing person, humble, kind, talented and beautiful. She died way to soon. 😔😔

She opened with songs that she loved growing up. English was her first language being American.

My favorite is at 7:11 when her earring fell off and she just pulled the other one off and kept the show going like the professional pro that she was.

Selena had everything: talent, natural beauty, charisma. It's still hard, just processing the fact that she was unfairly taken away when she was at the peak of her life. However, she's a legend and a Queen, because (quoting her) "the goal isn't to live forever, but to create something that will". We miss you Sel!

I love Selena. I grew up watching her, and the movie Selena that starred Jennifer Lopez. Selena broke barriers as the Queen of Tejano..Its a shame she died how she did, and Yolanda took her life over nothing. Selena is incredible.

I used to work as a maintenance man at that hotel. I was just 2 years from having the chance to have potential being there the day she got shot. I always thought about what I would’ve done if I had been right at the perfect place. I also got the chance to get up close to the BIG SHOW wrestler. That man was a MONSTER.

Great reaction, yeah her native first language was English, she learned Spanish by singing Spanish songs and hearing it thru Spanish soap operas and such.. before Netflix Selena,the series, there was a biopic of her starring Jlo. 1997.. all her songs are timeless but here are a few other English songs: btw, she is being recognized even through the u.s. government levels... No. Both her parents were chicanos so they knew English and Spanish but mainly spoke to selena and her siblings in English or Spanglish she knew more English than she did Spanish because after generations the language fades away but later on she started to sing in Spanish which helped her gain and be fluent in the language which is why she had to become a perfectionist in both languages mainly because she sang both English and Spanish songs.

She sad mostly in Spanish; but she did also sing in English. Before she passed she was working on a cross-over album, that was released posthumously. She designed her own outfits. She had a fashion line she sold in her boutiques. Her band "Los Dinos" were comprised most by her family, her sister Suzette and brother Abe. Her father was her manager, her mother sewed the bands costumes. Selena was a singer, sngwriter, dancer, fashion designer, spokesperson, model, actress, and philanthropist. She was murdered on March 31, 1995, in Texas, by her boutique manager, fan club president, and "friend", Yolanda Saldivar. Selena was 23 years old, one month shy of her 24th birthday. She was one of her Last concert before she passed, the following month. To answer your question, singers can sing other artists songs, so long as they pay royalties.

This was the Disco Medley performance so none of the songs here were originally by Selena. She was an 80s girl so she grew up with all the ‘70s disco influence and ‘80s pop singer influences like Madonna, Janet Jackson and Paula Abdul. Artists can perform covers of other people’s songs without worrying about copyright because they’re not claiming to be the creator/songwriter I’m pretty sure. Btw it’s pretty cool you just decided to look into her and learn about Selena. She really was one of a kind.

Her actual favorite singer was Donna Summer.

This was at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. She was driven to the stage in a horse drawn carriage by Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo personnel. Her first language was English. Her father had been in a Tejano band that played music in Spanish. For whatever reason, the band did not make it. Her father decided to put together a Tejano band using his children. Selena began singing in Spanish. However, she was not a fluent Spanish speaker in the beginning. After she had made it, she decided to release an album in English. But, those plans ground to a halt due to her murder.

No, none of those songs were her songs. They were all hits by other people. Her Spanish-language ones (the rest of the concert (just type "Selena Astrodome" into KZread) were her songs (as far as I know). I don't know what the copyright laws are regarding performing other people's songs in concerts, though. A loooong time ago, songs used to be recorded by many people, and some versions became hits while other's didn't. Someone once said that music is the universal language. So true, but love is also a universal language. She was fluent in both. That was her magic. She had the power to UNITE all of us, which we need now more than ever in the sad history of this country.
