From what I've heard Selena's Dad actually said something much worse to Chris. Apparently he told Selena & Chris not to see each other anymore & Selena yelled back at him, Chris tried to calm the situation but Abraham snapped at him & called him a "cancer in my family" & that's when Chris argued back.

He loved her so much and she loved him so much. Their love was so pure and sweet. I read that after Selena was murdered, Chris started drinking heavily and doing drugs. He married again and had a child but the marriage didn't last long. Selena and Chris were meant for each other and I believe they'll be reunited in heaven when his time comes. True love lives on forever, even when one of the people in that relationship has departed.

@@Mewingastarion101 I dont know about all that.. The only thing I can think that comes even close to the realms of cheating. would be when Chris says in his book.. To Selena With Love.. That when they had their kiss on the plane in chapter 1 he was technically still in a relationship with his then girlfriend at the time so she may have cheated WITH chris while he was still in a relationship but more him than her.. because for all we know she might not even been aware he had someone at that time. Would it have changed anything? Made a difference? who knows? But either way one undeniable truth whatever problems they had or didn't they loved each other that still carries to this day however flawed or wonderfully its still a Love that stood the test of time.

It wasnt about being rich and famous. Selena k ew that she was the voice for so many Mexican Americans. Her fans really looked up to her. She was and still is our role model. After a while, I finally get it. Parents can't control their children their whole lives or decide what's best for them when they become 18. Even though Abraham was just worried about Selena, he had to let her go and grow up at some point. To be quite honest, she's old enough to make her own decisions since she's over 18. This part was pretty sad for selena. Being a controlling parent can affect a child real bad. Selena didn't deserve to get her heart broken. In general, no one does. Abraham's Point: Just because Selena is legally an adult doesn't mean he's retired from worrying about his daughter. Selena's Point: I'm legally an adult, you can't control who I can or can't love. I'm old enough and free to make my own choices now.

It is! The scene was supposed to be dramatic but it felt like it was almost played for humor (with the way it was cut and focused on the outsiders watching). Then had the audacity to end the season there like they did something 🙄

I feel like he’s yelling at me every time during this scene 😂.. the dads reaction on the new series cannot compare though during this part when he found out they were together.

@koolaidria208 Yeah this scene scared me as a kid. I DO agree that Selena was too young to get married at 20. And that waiting a few years is ideal. But that doesn’t justify Abraham treating Chris the way he did. Nothing wrong with Selena dating someone (she was an adult) as long as he respected and treated her right (Which Chris did).

Our latino dads can be very intimidating.. my parents are from Ecuador and I am the youngest. No matter how older I got, i was still too young. It don't matter if it was a bum musician or Bill Gates wanting to date me. My dad has yelled at me just like that, telling me at 20yrs old that i am too young. My parents aint play, no means no and i just wasn't allowed to have a boyfriend. Of course I would lie and say he's just a friend but i completely understand why she ran off and got married. That's okay, I can make my own way!

I must say that this is one of the best scene of the film... They're a veeeeeeeeery talented actors/actress... I can understand Selena's dad's anger because it's just natural for a dad to protect his dear daughter from a rock star who's often known as a bad and disrespectful guy... Especially, this scene is not long after Selena and her family discovered that Chris' band are wrecking up a hotel room which made her dad think that Chris is no different than any typical bad boy/rock star... And because it's common that if getting married in a very young age is vulnerable to get divorce, due to an unpreparedness for almost everything in life... But thank God that Chris successfully proved his seriousness with Selena by never ever cheated on her all her life, even cried and heavily devastated when Selena died... Even he's still in touch with his late wife's family, the Quintanillas, until today even though he's already married again...

I think he recked the room to blow off some of the anger. Because here he is loving this girl seemly out of his league his friend telling him o her father won't accept the relationship because of who you are etc.

How is he threatening to “disband” the group when he’s not the talent? I wish Selena would’ve known that she didn’t need her father, his approval or the band. :(

Selena LOVED her family, she would’ve never done her music if her brother wasn’t producing her music or her sister behind her on the drums. It’s true that Selena was the most valuable and indispensable of the group but I understand her point of view as well. It’s very obvious Selena couldn’t have made it by herself as her dad was the one who pushed her into the star she is now and her brother was the one who made her hits. I do agree though that her dad was in the wrong here.

The actor said that in every scene shooting, Abraham would be present and that after the taping he would be in tears...I can already imagine how he must of reacted reliving this scene

When he yelled “that’s it! you’re fired!” Did you guys notice how hard Selena and Chris flinched and how much they moved lol. They got hella scared, he yells so suddenly 😂. You can even see their neck muscles pop out because they were so shocked😂.

I don't agree with his antics but he did come to accept Chris and saw that he was a great guy for his daughter after all. Abraham is a control freak and he and SELENA always butted heads. He accepted Chris in his family because he had no choice when they got married, but Abraham never really "saw that he was a great guy". He despised Chris at the time and despises him to this day. It's a father wanting to protect his daughter (that's what a father should do), it's okay having big dreams for her, but what he did was just insane!

According to Chris braham said it himself on one occasion that his hopes for his daughter was that she married a guy he says 'in her own league' someone who was distinguished and well off. Something to that extent. I think Chris put it a different way. But whatever the case may be SELENA in the end married whom she saw fit not her father. After all it was her life. She was the one who would have to live with the 'guy'. 😁

The sad truth is, Selena only married him at a young age (21) to force her dad to accept him. Even Chris thought the marriage thing was too fast (even though he loved her). If Abraham wasn’t so harsh on him, I’m sure Selena would have waited a few years (like her late 20s or early 30s) to marry Chris.

Abraham shouldn’t have judged and discriminated Chris for being a rock artist and assuming that all punk rock artists were “bad people”. Especially since Abraham himself faced discrimination in the 60s (racially) when him and his band tried to audition at that all-white club but got denied for being a Mexican group.

I love how Chris stood up for her and himself. But this scene always scares the hell out of me.

@MonsterFlame1 I actually agree with Abraham in the sense that Selena was a little too young to get married. Waiting a few years would have been ideal. But that doesn’t mean he had the right to treat Chris the way he did and try to ruin their relationship. Selena was 20 and an adult! Nothing wrong with her having a boyfriend, as long as he respects and treats her right!

Edward James Olmos deserved the Oscar for this scene alone! Real Anger from witihin!

Chris said Abraham called him a cancer in the family. Wow. Abraham was something else but he soon came to accept Chris. He might as well bc Chris wasn't going anywhere anytime soon that's for sure, probably never if Selena had anything to do with it. Lol. Both she and her father was stubborn and would often have disagreements according to Chris's book. But hey, its family. We all have our good times and not so good times. The movie is great but for me the book is a lot better bc its based on so much that the movie doesn't tell. I have them both by the way.☺ Rip angel 💝💝💝💝

That tells you something doesn't it? It was sugar-coated for the movie since it's told from the family's point of view. Abraham sued Chris for the to Selena with love miniseries adaptation cuz he doesn't want any of that to come to light and he knows his bullying ways would have been exposed. Abraham q is something else

Edward James Olmos is such a good actor. His acting is excellent in this scene. You can feel the rage in his voice.

I think part of the reality was...Abraham saw Selena as a goldmine and she knew that and to have a man love who she really was meant more to her than a 6-figure paycheck and a perfect physique...

Suzanne Wagner; Maybe but Abraham was also protective of his young daughter as my parent was of me at that age. In the end though the father was thankful that his daughter got to love and be loved by a wonderful guy like Chris. Both A.B. and Suzzette publicly thanked Chris for loving their sis and being there for her.

The problem with old fashioned parents is they are obsessed jealous over their daughters. Makes no sense and til this day my mother says i won't understand until i have my own kids. No man will be good enough for your daughter. Plus once she's married half of that money is legally his. Abraham did not want any of that. I'm glad Selena eloped. She was happy.

Watching this on her birthday Selena and Chris really had an amazing and beautiful love story chris loved her like no other man and Selena really fought for their love ❤️ ❤️😍😭

I love the way the actors did this scene. Abraham is of course furious and yelling, Chris is keeping a calm tone trying to difuse the situation, making it clear that he loves her. and of course Selena is yelling right back to defend her man like a queen

Chris is a pretty chill person. Saw several interviews with him. In one, he stated that he and Selena were opposites in the fact that she had such an outgoing personality and he is more reserved. He's always quite calm.

@wanibenedith5757 Chris was and still is a naturally calm and soft spoken person. It wasn’t until he met Selena and her family that he began feeling comfortable enough to open up.

God JLo is so beautiful here. In my eyes, I don’t think she ever looked as good as she does in this movie. And she did do a pretty damn good job on trying to nail the essence Selena had.

Anyone who's ever had a Mexican dad knows how scary realistic this scene is

Man, I remember seeing this for the first time as a kid and how _angry_ I got at this scene. I just kept thinking, “She’s an adult! Who are they to tell her who she can or can not be with?!”.
