I have a king turtle that i put on timegrapher and it wasnt great but on the wrist it runs at +1.5 spd all the time , so real life use is what matters.

Really happy with my Seiko Alpinist... brought at a 25% discount. Runs accurately, wears great on the wrist.

Great conversation. I think the David Sharp guy is delusional about Seiko not intentionally marking RRP high to actually get what the retailers are getting. Seiko is like the Ford and GM of watches. They put $50k on the sticker but ALWAYS have $10-11k off. It's expected and has been that way for 30 years. Seiko is exactly the same.

I can assure you that they, as a company, do not intentionally mark up the retail price to actually get what the retailer are getting. Aside from the fact that in certain commercial zones this practice is illegal (EU block), the dealer is the only one taking the margin hit if the item is discounted, the brands margin, in this case Seiko, are not affected by the final selling price.

It takes 5 minutes to regulate it.

We tried to regulate a 4r36. It takes a lot of skill, a timegrapher and you have to keep regulating it over several days. It has to settle down each time. The process is not at all easy on these seiko watches. You can do it easy on a Swiss movement. I made an upload called ‘making the ultimate turtle’ that shows some of the process.

@@CasualWatchReviews yes you need a timegrapher a stady hand and a very basic understanding of how it's done ( planty of videos on utube). I have very bad technical skills but even i was able to do it. And if you can't do it yourself, every watch maker can do it for you. I would be scared to touch a swiss movement but nh35 or 4r and such are not hard at all.

Most watch makers won’t regulate a watch for you. Not in my experience. You may be able to get it closer in one position doing it yourself but they are very tricky to get consistent in multiple positions. Also it’s a risk on the watch the originally commenter said, that a $800 watch you could destroy with a slip of the hand. And void the warranty.

@@CasualWatchReviews thanks for the advice but to be honest I still love the watch and it cured me of zeroing all my watches 😁 I've got a longines which is my most expensive and that runs about+10 aday which would in the past drive me crazy. Now I'm more relaxed about my watches running a little fast👍all the best from the UK

The whole anal retentive attention to watch accuracy - for automatic watches is such a non starter, not many people care that much including many watch collectors. If you really fuss about accuracy, geez buy a Casio G-Shock or an Ecodrive Citizen.... The high end luxury watch buyers don't always care about COSC either, if you've got a $40k Daytona on your wrist... I would'nt give a toss! It's a beautiful piece, has cache and a party pleaser!

I’m just going to point out the obvious here. Have you ever known someone really into watches that was not ‘anally retentive’ about the hobby? I own mechanical, eco drive and several gshocks, love them all. A mechanical watch that gains 20 seconds a day when it could perform better is just lazy on the watch companies behalf. One of the main selling points Rolex started with, and why they got so big was based on accuracy. The posing at parties came much later.
