Seiko Baby Alpinist vs Smiths Everest | A Field Watch Battle

#seiko #smiths #alpinist
In this video, I will compare my Seiko Baby Alpinist SPB157J1 and my Smiths Everest PRS-25. This is the field that watches the battle. I want to compare two similar and at the same time very different watches. I will be talking about the history behind these 2 watches, their quality, and their specifications. What is the availably and warranty for both Seiko and Smiths?
I will do an in-depth review of my Seiko Alpinist SPB157J1 blue dial and share my experience of owning this watch for more than a year. How is the Seiko 6R35 movement performed and what issues you may face with this Alpinist model.
Is Smiths Everest worth the hype around this watch?
Seiko Alpinist and Smiths Everest are both field watches, related to alpinism and mountain climbing sport.
Both models' look is different from their historical models. Both could be perfect daily drivers.
With the Smiths Everest, you have a story about conquering the top of the world on Edmund Hillary’s wrist. Unlike Rolex Explorer, we know for sure that the Smiths made it to the top for the first time in human history. With Seiko, you have a variation of its family Alpinist models within the Prospex line. Currently, Seiko has three different Alpinist major models. The Baby Alpinist version is the closest to the field watch.

Thanks for another video. This is a cool comparison and is most helpful when deciding on one of these great pieces; both excellent GADA watches. 👍🙂

Nice review! I have a green Baby Alpinist (SPB155) on a bracelet and i love it so much. It's strange but it has golden hands instead of silver ones. I think it is a perfect every day, one collection watch. Smaller watches (36/38mm) are just timeless. I'm not a fan of a bigger, 40mm+ cases.

Thank you! Baby Alpinists are great watches, one of my favourite from Seiko. I had to give up on my green Baby Alpinist for this Smiths but I still have my blue one and thinking of getting a jubilee bracelet for this watch.

Very nice set, I owned the same Alpinist for about a year and I really did like the dial. Biggest issue for me was that I didn’t find it to be too versatile and sometimes I found the dial to be just a little too messy/busy. And so I decided to sell. I did miss the dial though but then picked up the smiths Everest Aventurine LE and I think it’s fantastic. With the aventurine and the black dial smiths I think I’m covered for 36mm pieces. Enjoy them.

No, it is from Strap Mill Canada. I ordered two Stand with Ukraine NATO straps from them. The ones from B&J should be nice too.

I think you should mention that the new "Smiths" has absolutely nothing to do with the original brand. Timefactors bought the rights to produce watches under the "Smiths" name. For collectors who are into horological history, the Alpinist has arguably more mountaineering heritage.

    Not this particular Alpinist model.
