I love how Sega feels the need to put silly mini games in their games.

I love that though. Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth technically has three different fishing games in it, with different mechanics, the don doko island fishing game, the main fishing game, and then Sega Bass Fishing in the arcades.

Games like Tekken, Soul Calibur, and probably many more that I don't know about, but I also love those games where you can just put like, a salmon on your left wrist and an eagle perched on your head and make the wackiest dude known to mankind.

I'll always have a soft spot for Amazing Island. As a kid the idea of making these little dudes was so cool, my little brother thought so too as he filled up our Memory Card, but even with just "Okay" minigames the monster creation made up for that. What it lacks in "good gameplay" it kinda makes up for in goofy fun. I'm not surprised this game didn't get any kind of follow up but I've always thought it would have been perfect on the DS, or even 3DS, due to the touch screen. Maybe a DS version of Amazing Island would have gained it a small cult following. Regardless, great video!

Absolutely agree with on the charm of customization. The more unnecessarily goofy it is, the better lol

As a kid, I took dance lessons. The school had a lounge with a Gamecube with a bunch of games, including this. I started asking my mom to drop me off early just so I could play it a bunch. I probably wouldn't have stuck with dance as long as I did if not for Amazing Island!

Such a nice, chill video! (The intro was wonderful, too 😂) I’ve never played or heard of Amazing Island, but the monster creation aspect looks so fun. There should be more creature collector type games with customization like this 🌻

Love these quirky games, especially on GC. Amazing Island, Billy Hatcher, Super Monkey Ball, it really felt like Dreamcast 2.

This game looks great, the Nintendo Power ads didn't do it justice. It looks like one big game dedicate to the Sonic Adventure Chao Garden, where you get to make your own pets entirely! Also; Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is a DreamCast port along with Skies of Arcadia Legends. Spore's issue is that it lied about its scope, and its monsters were hideously ugly. I'm gonna track down a copy of Adventure Island now thanks to this video.

I remember seeing the cover of Amazing Island, but I had Nooo idea what this game is. In terms of the game's release in America, it came out in the summer of 2004, nearly 1-2 months after Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door came out. And upon playing this game years later, I didn't realize how difficult the mini-games and fighting mini-games really were...And my gosh this game has button mashing in it, much, MUCH worse than the Mario Party games at that time. The thing I absolutely love about this game is the soundtrack...Man, some of these songs are worthy of playing in the background, almost quiet, ambient music akin to that of Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix (aka Dance Dance Revolution With Mario In Japan). Also, considering this game is now going to be 20 years old in August of this year (March for Japan), it's weird to think this game, that not many have heard of or played, it's something I wish I did get back in the day, but I couldn't buy it because I could only get maybe one or two games during that time. So for my birthday I got Shrek 2 and for Christmas I got Mario Party 6. And by then, Amazing Island was taken off shelves sometime in January/February 2005.

even tho the game is kinda short, i feel it still has more content than most modern games, and if any modern game tried to have the same amount of content, they would sell everything as DLC lol

You describe it as a low budget game, but sounds like the marketing budget wasn't so low if there were so many full page ads for it . 😅

GODDD i love this game! same hat: saw the ads all the time in nintendo power, had to get it. i bought one of those white memory cards w like 1000 blocks of memory JUST for this game so i could go ham making monsters. you can actually get some rare accessories (and even frames, iirc?) from playing monster cards, so i ended up playing it a decent amount, ahaha. "Sorry... Try Again!" is burned into my brain.
