    restringing a floyd is only a pain in the ass if you suck at changing guitar strings. I have 6 guitars, all have floyd roses/Floating trems. Sure a little annoyance when changing strings, but they stay in tune better than any Fender or Gibson does. I can leave my Ibanez RG580 alone for a month and it'll hold it's tuning.

  • @MaggaraMarine

    @MaggaraMarine

    Restringing a Floyd is a piece of cake. But getting it back in tune is not (unless you block it). A Floyd is a pain in the ass to get in tune (because when you tune one string up, the other strings go down - you need to tune it multiple times to get it in tune), but once it's in tune, it will also stay in tune.

  • @pilotamurorei

    @pilotamurorei

    9 жыл бұрын

    MaggaraMarine Time consuming, not a pain in the ass. Just block the bridge until you're done tuning. Not hard. another option is put a tremol-no in and lock the bridge in place until you finish changing strings and tuning. Not hard.

    +ChiliLP I'm doing an internship at a guitarstore, the guy who worked there was busy with a SG which happened to be armed with that automatic tuner as well, and he showed me, by tuning the guitar using the automatic system and a Korg tuner that it failed big time. He tuned it the first time (according to the system-tuner the guitar was tuned, not according to the korg) second time, other strings were detuned and so on. So please don't be confused when folks won't take you serious when you've got one of those horrible things on your guitar.

    autotuning on an acoustic is flat out dumb. you add weight to the headstock increasing the probability of deadspots, and also ad a huge piece of plastic to rob vibration energy. acoustic guitars should have the bare minimum of parts necessary to make them work. End of story.

  • @flips220

    @flips220

    9 жыл бұрын

    onpsxmember What a dumb thing to say. Guitars go out of tune, it's just a thing that happens. It's not restricted to Gibson guitars. Sure, the headstock plays a role in it, along with strings, tuners, nut, bridge type, etc. etc. etc. But stringed instruments like guitars involve tension on wood and steel which naturally expand and contract due to temperature, heat, pressure, and other factors that fluctuate over time. All things that inevitably lead to tuning changes over time, small or large.

    Oh. Of course. Diamonds. Why did I think that it would be so expensive for any other reason? I was hoping it was something new in terms of engineering or sound, or that it's so expensive because it's cutting edge and breaks new ground in some way, but nope. Just a bunch of stupid, useless diamonds that are there for no reason. Yawn. I mean, I could glue $1,000,000 of diamonds on my cheap Toyota, but that doesn't make it "the most expensive car in the world!" I can't act like it's a Lotus or Ferrari just because I stuck diamonds to it. It's still the same cheap everyday car, diamonds or no. It is simply cheating to refer to this guitar as the most expensive guitar in the world - it isn't. It's a more-or-less regular guitar with diamonds glued to it for no reason. I mean, if we're playing by these rules, I have a cheap Jackson Dinky guitar from twelve years ago when I was new on guitar, probably barely worth $100 today. Would that Dinky become the most expensive guitar in the whole world if I superglue, say, $2,000,000 of diamonds to it? Or is it perhaps just a bunch of diamonds with a cheap guitar stuck to them? By the time we start calculating value by how many diamonds are stuck to something, we should ask what is worth more - what the diamonds are stuck to, or the diamonds themselves? Utterly ridiculous. Both a waste of perfectly good diamonds and a perfectly good guitar.

    Any instrument, car, or object in general purely based on adornment material used (gems, etc) is nonsense to me. Mechanically place a hundred diamonds on a guitar and sure, it's worth a lot. But I'd rather have a historical piece or one which took masterful craftsmanship to create.

    ***** Well, in general the guitar is connected to a lot of non-rebellious musical genres -- rock & jazz & country most notably. And a good chunk of the guitar community (as fashioned by magazines like Guitar World and Guitar Player) is quite closed minded and almost more interested in properness (having the right gear, right technique, right stylistic influences) that they are not even interested in music as a means of communication anymore, and it becomes something to be judged rather than listened to and understood -- as if the guitarist is merely on stage doing tricks and not really saying much more than "look how good i play" for a bunch of fanboy worshippers. The rest of the world will grow weary of that at some point, and that's when we'll go through another Nirvana-type thing and the guitar community will be again asking "Is Shred Dead?" just like they did in the 1990s. And they will react against the innovators like they did against Tom Morello until they get a new kind of conformist music that refines what the innovators came up with into some new sort of finery, or they run out of creativity and just go back to the old style shred -- which seems to be what is happening now for the past few years.

    I had an old friend with many classic guitars, very nice fellow. He had a classic 1950 something Martin he let me play, then he told me how much it was worth, I promptly handed it back ;)

    I don't hate tuning my guitars at all. I would certainly rather do that than have those awful auto tuners. Is it that people are too lazy? Or maybe they don't know how. Which begs the question ,if you can't tune your guitar why are you buying an expensive Gibson?

    I just thing it dumbs down something that is really simple. The other thing is a lot of us use multiple guitars. I will say it is far better than those awful guitars that play in tune regardless of the string tension. I don't know if this sounds weird but I actually like tuning my guitars. Learning to tune helps you enormously when it comes to learning the sounds of notes. Each to his own I guess but it's not for me.

    +Paul Evans I suppose it is handy when you are on stage and can't hear your own guitar. It is slightly more convenient than finding the right pedal, looking at some light and so on ... you can stand anywhere on the stage and just tune. But of course, it is a bit of a special use case that not many people really have need for.

    +Paul Evans no hate to your comment but i think it helps a lot when you are on stage... when you need to change your tuning for different songs and you dont have enough time.

    Yes, they are awesome guitars, no wonder why everyone copies their designs. One completely different thing is that you don't like Fenders, but that doesn't changes the fact that they are amazing guitars.
