So many people criticizing California (many I suspect strictly for political reasons) but no single state can match what it offers in terms of access. Whether you love surfing, skiing, camping, hiking, National Parks, the beach, the big city, the desert, fishing...sun, sand or snow...you are able to access them without leaving the state with great weather year round to boot. As for the homeless, it's a huge problem in LA but this home is in Tarzana, a pretty nice area. For those of you who want to argue with me, let me ask you this, in what state is your dream home located? If it's so great, why aren't the property values higher there than in California?

Because California is loaded greedy democratic politicians that pocket most of the money to their greedy grants. Pocketed all the monies that have come from private, public and federal government to aid in homelessness problem. High taxes and high property taxes going up yearly, high fees on registration, fuel and basically anything you own. High taxes to fix highways...which only get fixed in certain counties. Now a user tax to use those same highway. Can't and won't fix the chronic homeless problem...so open up the southern border so more homelessness will occur to rip off more incoming funds. Greedy Democrats rewrite the laws of the land to benefit only one group...the "Greedy Democrats Politicians" in Sacramento and Pelosi district. Hell, the agricultural land of California has been turned into a dust bowl because of a fish that could of been saved with tanks. 90% of the fish in our markets today are tank processed. Big companies...multi-billion worth companies have move out for so many of the above reason plus more dealing with corporate taxes, fees and regulations written by the greedy democratic politicians. I was born in this state 62 years ago when it was a great state to call home. A great state to call home up until the crime really put the cap on it all in the late 2018. No, California isn't a state people want to move to and call home, because in California "The American Dream" is forever lost.

MAINE, more scenic, cleaner air, nicer people, don't have to worry bout kids getting shot in drive-by shooting going to school,we have way less crime, because our citizens are able to protect themselves against criminals, best hunting and fishing in the country, and cleanest waterway and rivers and much more

@@jasonmiles517 Maine is nice for outdoors (lol that you highlight hunting) but no more scenic than many other states (of which I've been to 45) e.g. Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Vermont. However, it doesn't offer access to the VARIETY of activities or culture (e.g. food, arts, museums) that CA does. Don't get me wrong, love Maine but you are kidding yourself if you think it offers everything CA does. Simple question, if Maine is so much better than CA (or any other state for that matter), why aren't there more people there?

This could have been so much better if multiple smaller prizes were given away. If someone couldn't afford to move into that house by buying it themselves what makes you think they are able to afford the cost of living in LA, transfer taxes, deed recording charges, closing costs, current and future real estate taxes, title insurance, homeowner’s hazard and liability insurance? That's easily 40k a year plus living expenses. The other choice is money which is cool but damn there could've been a better way to do this. Some unsuspecting guy is going to choose the house and is going to be forced to sell it frantically when he realizes the face value of the house is only part of what it costs to live there.

That's a laugh even with a free house, the utility bills and taxes will make you sell it and get the he'll out of there 😉

I have three (3) main questions for OMAZE for official answers. Please read thoroughly through all my questions in its entirety. Please clearly state the answer for each. I encourage everyone to read the last question. Thank you. (If you (Omaze) need clarification I will be happy to clarify) 1. What happens if the total donations do not exceed or equal the cost of the prize on the drawing date? 1a. Will you (omaze) still give away the prize that is advertised? 1b. Or will you (omaze) push the drawing date into the future indefinitely until total donations are greater than the cost of the prize that is advertised? 2. Some of the grand prizes have cash alternatives. My question is if I win the grand prize and I decide to do the cash alternative will I have to pay taxes on that? For the grand prizes you guys clearly state that if any taxes or fees are covered. But I do not see if any taxes or fees are covered with a cash alternative even if the primary/ advertised grand prize has all the taxes and fees covered. 3. Why is the cast alternative less? In some cases way less. This just does not make any sense to me. I mean if the grand prize is worth a certain amount of money then shouldn't the grand prize winner get the same money that the primary/advertised grand prize is worth?? At the end of the day you're (Omaze) giving away the same amount of money however it's cut back for some reason. I mentioned in my question “some cases way less”. I am specifically referring to the Los Angeles (L.A.) $4.3 million dollar (USD) house where the cash alternative is literally over $1million less(USD). This means even less if Omaze does not cover the taxes or feeds. So this means for this specific house the 3 million dollars cash alternative will be a cut around half that so a measly 1.5 million(USD) which is still a lot BUT it is way down from $4.3 million dollars(USD). You take the cash and you'll get hit with 50% capital gains. It's slightly more complicated but you could sell the house as your personal residence and 1031 it into another house somewhere else and not get killed on taxes. Of course, there's still the property tax issue unless you move to a "state" where there isn't any property tax... Consult a tax specialist...

People really do be complaining about anything huh. Like yeah CA is not my preferred state to live but a house is a house and winning would be awesome and I would be grateful especially as someone who has lost my old home. I want to win the Tahoe lake house but any home would be cool.

I have a good question: What happens if the total donations don't exceed the cost of the house on the drawing date? Will Omaze stick to its word, give it away, and take the loss? Or will they push the drawing date into the future indefinitely until total donations are greater than the cost of the house?

Yes I agree taking the cash would probably be the best but you have to remember you taking the $3 million in cash is still taxable income so you're probably going to to be left with $2 million the taxes in LA county are 1.25%, now that's a pretty low rate even compared to Ohio and some other areas in Florida easily could be 9 to 12,000 a year as well as parts of New York so that would be a considering factor also gas at 5 to $8 a gallon would be another considering factor as well as utilities could run pretty high with a property of that size and a pool and the people that could afford this property wouldn't be entering this contest in the first place LOL most of the United States as well as the world the real estate has just gone through the roof there's very few places now where it's affordable to live Arizona still is one of the better places to at least buy land as well as Mississippi Georgia and all those low-line States but who wants to live in a hurricane mosquito humid and not the most appeasing or appealing place to live I wonder if they really do give this house away I'm sure they almost have to because it's so public but the chances of winning it are so out there that is not even really worth the time LOL 😲😮🤠🇺🇸😳

Percentage wise California has one of the lowest property taxes in the country. It's the cost of the house is a problem. Texas property taxes are over double California Percentage wise. I would know I live in texas and lived in California.

It would be a blessing. I would be grateful for a home. I came out of homelessness in 2016 after losing my childhood home and know the value of a home. I was homeless for 3 years and lost my health due to the struggle and circumstances. I have been renting and it's been a struggle going from place to place without having a home to call my own. From ur post I'm guessing your country is Germany, which means you are not eligible for this. Although I don't think Ur missing out cause it seems extremely fishy. If the winner takes the $3M cash you avoid 13% state tax on $4.3M, fed tax on $1.3M and LA! Fine print: charity gets 15% of the donations. Of course OMAZE has the risk & cost of buying the house.

@@CMUBruin Lottery winnings are not taxed by CA but it appears raffles are. Good question. From an SFGate article: If you win a raffle in California, state income tax generally is not withheld, but you still owe it. If you are a nonresident and win more than $1,500, the nonprofit will withhold 7 percent for state tax.

I agree. It is a sweepstakes, with a fund raising component. However, because Omaze is not a non profit, your donations are not tax deductible. There could be an argument that 15% of your donation is tax deductible, because that's what Omaze claims goes to charity.

Whoever wins this is definitely moving lmao

Actually, people on sweepstakes sites have reported big wins without donating. The winner is chosen randomly.
