When purchasing on Amazon I look at whether it ships from Amazon or not. I don’t mind seeing something sold by xyz and shipped from Amazon but I tend to stay away from anything shipped and sold by xyz.

I bought an off brand red woodworking ruler from Amazon. It was a set of 3. The scale on one of them measured differently against one of the others. I returned them. Tried again. One ruler was bent. Finally today I bought the real deal. I tried to leave negative reviews and they were rejected by Amazon. I tried 3 times to leave negative reviews and no luck. So my view is don’t believe what you read. I bought an off brand chainsaw. I went to use it a few months later and it wouldn’t start. I bought a brand name and have never had a single issue. How do you find the diamonds in the rough?

I just got a maktek jig saw for about $23 and a Makita 7” circular saw for about $35 online here in Thailand. I’ll likely never need to replace either.

Great information. I do the same as far as "how much will I use this " I bought from Temu for a while it was OK?? But they just cram everything in a bag and ship it. So it gets damaged. I use Amazon a lot like everyone else. I've bought a lot of tools off of there and have been well satisfied. My main source is Harbor Freight Lifetime Warranty No Hassle I have several $10 electric tools that I've had for years and still work great that said I don't use them everyday. I get the majority of my mechanics tools there and have had no issues with any of them. Hey great subject thanks for sharing your expertise

I bought a Hychika mini circular saw back in April here in the UK from Amazon. Only used it for cutting OSB so far but what a great little buy.

It has been a while so I don't remember for sure but it seems to me that the paid reviewers are identified as "vine" reviewers. So, at least, there is an appearance of transparency. People will find work-arounds and shady angles with everything so you never know.

This discussion is very good advice when I buy Milwaukee tools it's the impact drill kit , the grinders ,all high use tools ,they don't get hot while using them for prolonged use compared to a DeWalt they get hot too quickly . Yes I've grown up with Milwaukee DeWalt and Makita so I've got preferences . However the radial arm saw was Craftsman nicest one I've used growing up till the recent one I used . I get the idea you don't need to keep to one brand exclusively 👍

I usually don’t buy plug in off brand tools off Amazon, Temu, etc. I don’t trust that they have been properly tested for electrical hazards. I have been mostly satisfied with the hand and measuring tools I have bought online. If some tool I want is more than I am willing to pay new I hit the used market. Also, I find once you make that big decision about your drill/driver brand you are now married to that for other battery operated tools. I don’t think anyone wants to deal with multiple brands of batteries to charge.

I buy more from ebay, but I'm mostly using hand tools, and buy used ones that I can restore. I do usually review tools I get on amazon. I try to balance the good with the bad. At times, when there isn't anything good to say, I've been rather brutal. Once in a while I've gotten tools where there isn't a "bad".

@@skippylippy547 I never seem to have time to go to those. The ones in my immediate area generally don't have a lot in the way of tools. You need to get out of the big towns. I do go to Habitats for Humanity sometimes.

About Amazon reviews: If you are fairly blunt and call 🐂💩 plainly for what it is, they BLOCK you. I am almost at the 18 minute mark and have not heard the flip side about tool makers. Craftsman, case in point. They used to be a great option, not any more.
