SECRETS Of Mixing SAMPLED With LIVE Instruments.

Музыка

A few months back Christian went to LA with his pal Cam to sample a very rare piano that had done a tour of duty in the phillipines during world war two. To really put it through it's paces he decided to make a track with it so I enlisted his "long suffering" but very talented friends Caroline and Theo to see if he'd be happy doing something he never does, use a sampled piano fully exposed in a track.

"It's how it makes you feel!" - This!!! I remember how I learnt to use engineery stuff, from compressors to eqs etc. Back then, there were no youtube videos! I just started turning everything up and down. I would be happy with it when I felt it! Best way to treat your work, and best way to learn about sound! Another fab video! Cheers Christian and the team! Loving the track! Oh, and I'm OBSESSED with The Vertical Piano! Such a fantastic tool!

I love this little process video! I wouldn't say no to more in-depth content, but I love seeing how different composers and producers approach making their music. A lovely atmospheric song that would absolutely hold the spot for an iconic emotional climatic moment in a story. I can see the longshots now. Absolutely love it!

@@TheCrowHillCo not yet! I see that the sale is ending soon but I might need to wait to free up the budget! I have vaults and love it so far. My parents actually have a Steinway baby grand but I certainly wouldn't mind having access a version of the vertical piano!

3 times I watched this video it blew me away at the beginning with the clarity and quality of raw vocal, and then to hear it mixed in what I can only describe from video editing known as three point editing. The way reverb is used to open it up gives it stereo width. Sync it. Oh that's actually a mental name for a music licensing company called Syncit. Probably been done lol.

Sorry, but I LOVED your 'original' mix that you thought sounded too 'digital'. I liked the incredibly intimate quality of the vocal in it... kinda sounded like a bit of Emiliana Torrini with Stina thrown in. The LoFi craze is something that is sonic anathema to me... spent a lot of years working in the studio making things sound as pristine as possible... different strokes for different folks. LOVE the composition!!!! Don't get me wrong in the least. More of this kind of thing would be wonderful.

Agree, interesting though it was, I felt it was overprocessed in the end. this is the temptation when you have so many tools at your disposal and infinite tracks. PS not all of us have access to expensive boutique hardware!
