Secretariat A Journeys End

Here is a tribute video for Secretariat's last race: The 1973 Canadian International. The Crown Prince of Bold Ruler did not disappoint. This is dedicated to the best Father in the world - my Dad.

He was the truest champion of all. I remember watching him in '73, along with the rest of the world, and being completey in awe of his will to win. I've watched all theraces since and have yet to see a horse such as Secretariat.

What a magnificent horse, The perfect physical specimen, smart as can be and the largest heart ever seen in a thoroughbred, so if it took the perfect horse to set the records he did what will it take to beat them? How do you improve on perfection? He new he was something special and love to show the fans how gifted he was, he loved the fans cheering and knew they were cheering for him and he thrived off of it! Truly the greatest we will ever see!!

The way Secretariat came careening around the final turn in the with steam bellowing out of his huge nostrils,he looked like the "Big Train". His ancestor Discovery (a chestnut) was known as the "Big Train",he carried unreal weights, was a multiple champion. Secretariat looked nothing like his parents and grandparents. I believe Secretariat got a lot of his grit from his great grandpa Discovery. Discovery was a grandson of Fair Play, Man o' war's daddy. Man o' war was also called "Big Red"!

Excellent video, inspiring music. Great job! Secretariat meant as much to the United States during that time in our history, as Phar Lap meant to Australia during that time in their history. Just for the record, Man O' War was also nicknamed "Big Red". I'm sure many horses have been nicknamed "Big Red" in addition to Secretariat, Phar Lap, and Man O' War. I have always wondered what Secretariat would have done if he had raced past three years old.

This isn't a horse...he's Godlike perfection....never to be seen again. Even one of the sportcasters who saw Man O War race and said it was his favorite horse until he saw Secretariat race. He thought that Secretariat was a miracle of nature. No human will ever be able to reach this level of perfection. You'll only see it once...I'm so grateful we were able to witness this...

I have been wishing 46 years now that another Secretariat would come along. But I'm only dreaming. None will ever be like him. Really, none before or since will be. One of a kind. He is in a league all by himself. He set himself apart from all other horses in history by his performance in the Belmont but we all know this don't we.

I watched this horse run in the Gardenia race at Garden State Race Track in Cherry Hill NJ before the triple crown races. I bet on him. He is a GORGEOUS horse! When he crossed the finish line, the other horses were just coming around the final turn. It wasn't even a race. Seeing Secretariat run is something I will NEVER forget! He was SUPER AWESOME!

Man, just to look at this horse Secretariat. The way he is built is shock & awe. Those hind quarters he has is where all the power is to push that awesome body of his to record times. That allows him to have those big long strides & with such a huge heart gives him that big oxygen tank he possesses. What a machine. Never seen a thoroughbred built quite like him. He looks much different from rest of the hosses.(smile)

Bar none...man or horse...Secretariat is the greatest, most perfect creature ever born on Earth...the greatest miracle of nature wasn't a man...it was a horse. We will never witness this perfection again. This horse can't be compared to any of us. His beauty, power, magnificence and "magic" will never be duplicated...I still miss this supernatural horse. He was a perfect "10".

Many years have gone by but the joy and power of Secretariat never fades. He started at the back, as usual, moved up at his own speed, as usual and then seemed happy to stay in second until he'd had enough and made his unbeatable move. I love Secretariat and I love these videos they'll never age. Secretariat seemed to make his move when he wanted to his jockeys rarely used a whip on him in any of his races. He was speed when he chose, and having watched American Pharaoh win the triple crown that definitely cant be said of American Pharaohs jockey I suspect Secretariat would have thrown him.

I'm almost 62 now & don't except to see another one like him if I live to be a hundred. Only thing I can do now is only dream. I am in shock & awe still to this day. Secretariat was a freak of nature. The best race horse to ever walk this earth. The critics always wanted to know why he was so fast and maintained stamina. When his autopsy report was unveiled, it was discovered that his heart was larger than an average race horse. This enabled him to pump more O2 to his vitals and muscles better than many of his competitors. Above all LOSING was not in his protocol.

Congratulations Phar Lap even after having traveled thousands of miles, having bad facilties, broken hoops, carrying tons of weight even though he was much, much bigger than the rest of the horses, dodging the mafia, winning a lot of races against so called good horses that no one has named yet & all the rest you still came out pretty good.WOW Lets all give him a hand mates.

  • @tmthurber

I don't believe anyone has mentioned what may be the single most amazing moment during this particular race. Kennedy Road was an aggressive horse, and as he had done to other rivals in previous races, he attempted to ram Secretariat as the colt began to draw up on him. Secretariat slipped and stumbled on the wet grass, and Eddie Maple felt his temperature suddenly spike -- and he opened up twelve lengths on Kennedy Road in the next eighth of a mile.

"Cheats Sometimes Prosper" is what they call it. Phar Lap's trainer gave the horse tonics that contained arsenic, strychnine, belladonna, cocaine and caffeine. The article says those ingredients were given to horses in small quantities in the past, as stimulants, before a race. It helps to build stamina & producing a temporary burst of increase energy. These are scientist words not mine. Now we know why Phar Lap done so well. The Aussies will not accept it as facts because their Prejudice.

Secretariat: Do you give the horse his strength, or clothe his neck with a flowing mane? Do you make him leap like a locust striking terror with his proud snorting? He paused fiercely rejoicing in his strength and charges into the fray. He laughs at fear and is afraid of nothing. He does not shy away from the sword The quiver rattles against his side, along with the flashing spear and lance. In frenzied excitement he eats up the ground He can not stand still when the trumpet sounds...

Secretariat ran a 1 1/4 mile in a unoffical time of 1:57 4/5 pulling up. Give Phar Lap a 4 second lead & the King still beats him by 5 lengths. WOW! I'm sorry I called him a donkey. Every once in a while God sprinkles star dust on someone or something. I think its just his way of saying or showing off with these modern day miracles. Miracles can come in all sizes shapes big or small, human or animal. In this horse he shows the world clearly that he is God. The same way he showed it in jordan, earnhardt, Ali, george woolf, jackie robinson, etc.. Red wore blinders but we the people shouldn't. Pay attention to what's going on around you give praise and marvel in his works.

He beat Phar Lap by about 45 lengths. That close to a 1/8 mile. I'm in the floor laughing. He could'nt even come close to beating Secretariats son.
