Secretariat Eclipse Award 1989 Goodbye Tribute

Спорт

This is the Secretariat Goodbye tribute that was originally broadcasted in 1989 during the Eclipse awards. A version was placed on the Secretariat VHS that Penny sells, but the alternate version of Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting for You" just doesn't do it for me. They also edited some scenes in the collage and I find this one works better.

If anyone has a better copy, I'd love to have it. Mine was watched to death as a kid so it got kind of worn out..

I was devastated when he died. I was 10 years old and my dream had been to see him at Claiborne Farms. I carried my model horse of him with me everywhere and every time I see a picture of him, my breath is still taken away at how magnificent he was.

My personal opinion on his laminitis...if he had been saddled up and ridden regularly, like Seattle Slew was, I truly believe he would have lived longer. That's just my personal opinion...Slew lived to be 29. RIP Big Red...nobody will ever forget you.

It's a couple of days before the 2018 Kentucky Derby. As always, we will host friends here at our home. My Secretariat Tribute collection will be on display. I feel so fortunate to be around in 1973 when THE GREATEST THOROUGHBRED RACE HORSE EVER won The Belmont Stakes by 31 Lengths! So much beauty this world has seen - let's hope we can all work together so our children can enjoy the kind of carefree days we used to have. Secretariat is a reminder. Best Wishes To ALL.

Penny didn't prefer Riva Ridge...just that Riva was her favorite because he was the horse that enabled her to keep the stable up and running, and he gave Meadow Stables their very first Kentucky derby win, and the financial means to keep Secretariat. Riva got the ball rolling and I think it was more sentimental with him that anything else. She and Lucien knew who was better...they all knew who was better. What a wonderful life that woman has had...I'm jealous.

Secretariat is my OBSESSION....This God given horse is the only perfect creature anyone will ever see on this earth. His magnificence will never be matched again by any other horse or human. His magic will never be duplicated. That's why we all cheered and cried, at the same time, when he won the Belmont...the greatest moment in sports history...his perfection touched our hearts...and to this day, my biggest regret, is never seeing him in person. I will always miss him and his presence.

Secretariat: Do you give the horse his strength, or clothe his neck with a flowing mane? Do you make him leap like a locust striking terror with his proud snorting? He paused fiercely rejoicing in his strength and charges into the fray. He laughs at fear and is afraid of nothing. He does not shy away from the sword The quiver rattles against his side, along with the flashing spear and lance. In frenzied excitement he eats up the ground He can not stand still when the trumpet sounds...

I have always questioned the Vet that put him down, and there might be a story there for an investigative reporter, and I think we owe Secretariat that, but I may as well howl at the moon before that happens. The day of his death he showed no signs of distress. At that level of horse racing the caste system is as strong as ever and one thing runs horse racing, and that's money. Secretariat was insured and would love to see the policy.

@Iwastherein1969 I was not lecturing... I think you're reacting to the last part of my comment. Sports Illustrated mocked Secretariat, literally, in print implying that he was a flop as a "stallion." Those are the reactions of men who saw him as a failure as a sire. And I was also happy to have Penny explain on S's website in answer to a question re. producing t'breds like himself... that "nature always regresses to the norm."

The saddest thing is she preferred Riva Ridge. And Secretariat saved her, her family & her farm. Diane Lane played her as if Mrs. Tweedy was a nice person. She wasn't. And ungrateful to the end. Secretariat was the only God-like creature ever born...and she had NO clue that he was God's masterpiece. However, I don't think it was an accident that God gave Secretariat to a woman. He wanted to protect him. Unfortunately, Penny couldn't have cared less after she got her money. Greedy like a man.
