SECRET VALLEY in the Langdales & Crinkle Crags Solo Mountain Wild Camp
Langdales adventure and Crinkle Crags solo mountain wild camp.
Heading out from Old Dungeon Gill I took this fantastic and remote trail following much of the stream bed up the spectacular Crinkle Gill and into the heart of Crinkle Crags. I spent the night in my MLD Duomid tent at just over 2500ft near Crinkle Crags. Amazing conditions at sunrise with a beautiful cloud inversion over the valley below. My return route took in a wild swim at the stunning Whorneyside Force waterfall. I glorious trip to the mountains and one that will live long in the memory.
A WORD OF CAUTION - I would certainly advise against taking this route if you are not experienced in the mountains. The rocks are very wet and slippy and an injury in the confines of this deep and remote gill may leave you unable to get yourself back to safety and, without a phone signal, you could be stuck in there for a long time. The exit route is also not particularly clear so caution is required here, too
Unfortunately I crashed my drone whilst trying to land, at sunrise. The resulting damage to the camera and gimbal was terminal.
Thanks for watching - Dave

My dad and me did this route with full camping gear in the 70s. We exited via Mickle Door and camped on Gunson Knott. Never again we both said, lol we had no idea in those days. Its very rare to be able to see Snowdonia from the lakes, but you have a totally clear view along with the sharp view of the Isle of Man. Don't think its the mountains of Mourne in Ireland, but i could be wrong. Love your filming, keep up the good work.

Thanks for this Dave, you take us to lovely places, beyond the abilities of most of us to get to! You are so right about the solace to be gained up in the hills, they are so much bigger than us and so old and calm. They are places to put things into perspective, and t think. To be somewhere where you can see no one and hear no sound other than natural sounds is wonderful and such a privilege, thanks again.

Thanks Dave, brilliant as always. You took us, well me certainly, to a place I haven’t seen before. Coincidentally I am planning to do Crinkle Crags and Bow Fell next week so it was great to see such a stunning route. I won't, however, be venturing that way! I think I shall stick to a more conventional approach and try and keep my feet dry. There are lots of good walking/wild camping vlogs on KZread but for me yours are the ones that really make me feel I am there with you on your adventures. Combine that with your knowledge and expertise and your friendly manner and it makes your output simply unmissable.

Wow what a beautiful view Dave. The drone footage looks like something out of Jurassic park..lol Thanks for hike. Be safe Have a great weekend ✌️
That was well worth watching. Brilliantly shot. That ascent was some undertaking. I reckon that could only be the Isle of Man Dave. Was well worth going to that waterfall and taking the plunge wasn’t it. Shame about the trash left. I get proper angry when I see that. PS the trailblazer 44 is the favourite of my packs, I can’t be doing with those Osprey contraptions anymore. I’ve just ordered one of those Mammut bottle holders for it. Top tip Dave - decathlon poolside sliders - about £6 a go and weigh about 150 grams a pair - good for gadding around camp in. ATB Chris😎👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

The best so far ! Can’t believe the weather. Sitting working from home on the South Coast in 30 degrees ~ your vlogs are essential therapy. I must have missed the waterfall on so many occasions when walking as Pike is a winter and spring fav. Getting the map out later. CrinkleGill that was tense just watching. Now I know what happened to the drone. Brew with a view is now red wine with a view. Love that you took the kit to the essentials and pulled out a bottle of red wine 😂🤣😂

Smashed it....again. the views looked awesome before you even started to climb and they only got better.....way better, the weather you had was amazing too. I wish I could of been doing that walk with you, but as you said, I wouldn't be prepared for that, like most mortals, i definitely wouldn't be able too, as my lack of fitness wouldn't let me haha 😅. My heart was in my mouth when you was scaling that waterfall/gorge, loads of effort needed for that, well done. I felt guilty drinking a beer while watching 👀 😅. The crap you do just for our viewing pleasure is commendable, drone remote in one hand, gopro in the other, you're mad, but well worth the end results 👌. Get yourself some sealskinz socks, though plastic bags are cheaper 😄. You well deserved on take 2 lol that ham hock with salad n wine 🍷 😋. I'm so jealous of how you are able to do what you do best. I'm sorry for an essay of a message, but your footage, efforts and commitment deserve it 👏. If this isn't read no worries buddy, but if it is, I hope you've enjoyed reading it while on another cracking wild walk/camp/climb and it sorta kept you entertained 😊. Thanks for sharing, it was an epic watch Dave 🤙🤗👍 Ps sorry about your drone 😬

Brilliant video, Dave. Some superb footage from that tough climb up the ghyll - really gave us a flavour for how spectacular it was and how tricky. Not easy to climb that when you've got a heavy pack on your back. Fantastic pitch, especially with the light over the Scafells at sunset and then the view over the inversion the next morning. I know exactly what you mean about the silence - that's so special to not hear anything, let alone a manmade sound. I agree about it being a place to heal up there - it calms the soul, whatever your problems. I'm glad you explained the lack of the familiar creaking noise... and there was me thinking you'd just lubricated your knees this time! 🤣

Well Dave, what a fantastic video that was. Perfect weather, similar to the day before when you were on Mellbreak, but your chosen route up to Crinkle Crags was a cracker. I've never been up there even in my prime, to be honest I've only been up Crinkle Crags twice and both times from Cockley Beck in Eskdale and both occasions more than 30 years ago now! I have done Hard Knott and Harter Fell within the last 10 years or so. Beautiful scenery as you said, what more could anyone wish for?
