I forgot to mention when putting your key fob in sleep mode, you can simply wake it up by clicking any button on the key fob. You’ll need your key fob to be awake to start the car.

Actually, you shouldn't need to even re-enable the proxy sensor to start the car. Foot on the brake, hold it up to the start button, the car will 'strum' and you can press the button as normal. The fob has an RFID tag inside, which is how you would start the car with a dead fob battery. At least that's how it worked on my 16 Legacy 2.5 Limited and 19 Forester. The process for disabling proxy is different though, so it could have changed; Therefore I will be trying this on my 22 Legacy XT Limited.

    1. Hold down the "Lock" button on the key fob and simultaneously press the PIN entry button located on the beside the back license plate on the trunk door until the car emits a beep sound. This action activates the PIN setup mode. 2. Press the "Unlock" button on the key fob. You now have 30 seconds to complete the PIN setup process. 3. To set the first digit of your PIN, press the PIN entry button the desired number of times, then stop. The car will emit a beep to confirm that the number has been registered. Repeat this step for each subsequent digit of your PIN, clicking the PIN entry button the appropriate number of times for each digit. 4. Once you have entered all five digits of your PIN, the car will start beeping continuously. This indicates that the PIN has been successfully set. 5. To unlock the car using the PIN, simply use the PIN entry button by entering the digits of your PIN using the same procedure you used during setup.

This one function has sold me on the Outback. I live in Australia and this vehicle is perfect for me when I go to the beach, snorkeling, kayaking, and hiking. Being able to deactivate and leave the key fob in the car, and use a pin code to get back in, will save my worry of my keys getting lost, or getting wet when doing those activities. 👍 Another MASSIVE plus for me, which I think you should talk about if you haven't already done so, is how the seats can fold down flat right through from the front passenger seat, to the rear of the car. Every other car I have folded the seats down in have always had the front seat fold down on top of the rear seat when folded down. The Outback seat can be moved forward enough that once the head rests are taken out, the front seat can be folded down flush with the rear folded seat, making an almost perfectly flat tray from front to back. It makes this vehicle perfect for doing an overnight camp in as well. And being able to deactivate the key fob also means I can lock myself in the car if camping over night inside the car without the worry of someone opening the car while I am in it.

I wish my dealership had been as helpful. Just handed me keys after car was prepped. So long. Questions at 6 month service. "Info in manual". A few videos with lots of extraneous unnecessary accessories to purchase shown in waiting room for service. Should show these videos instead.

Thanks Alex, your video helped me set pin on my new 2022 Impreza Limited. The manual was very confusing, telling you to enter a pin but not how. Also, thanks for showing how to sleep the key fob, my salesman told me I’d be able to set a pin for entry but I’d have to put my key in an rfd box to lock it in the car.

Alex, watching another video without powered tailgate, presented another set of instructions: 1. to deacitave tailgate sensor by using unlock button and unused tailgate button. the dealer guy also mentioned different steps needed to put remote into sleep and to reawaken. yours and his were both newer outbacks. just need to reconfirm steps for your particular vehicle with O/M

Thank you Alex. It works just fine on my 2020 Legacy Touring but don’t depend on the manual because it doesn’t explain. The legacy doesn’t have the extra button like the Outback. The same button that opens the trunk is the same that does the pin code, the secret is once you put it in pin code mood the button doesn’t respond to the trunk opener and only respond to the key pad but does the same thing. Note on the Legacy you have to hold down the lock button and click the unlock button twice to disable the key and using the same method to enable it. Hope that helps Legacy owners. Thanks for the video.

Forester 2022. Thank you, this saved me when the instruction manual for Forester 2022 had a mistake in it. In the Subaru manual for the second thing you do (step 4) it says to press unlock "until" you hear a chirp sound instead of "to stop" the chirp, sound which had me beat!

This video was great bc I do a lotta stuff where I don't want that fob around. Alex calls attention to the beep that you get when you're setting up the code in your garage. But under "normal" conditions I rarely hear the beep in a parking lot. And the normal timing of a pause between entering the 5 numbers, like Alex does, works EVERY Time. PRO TIP: if you don't put the fob in sleep mode (by mistake/thought you did but you didn't) and you return and start entering the PIN the beeper will beep continuously on each press of the button if you can hear it. SOLUTION: Try the hatch first. Then enter the PIN if it doesn't release. For what it's worth.

Went from a 04 dodge Cummins 2500 to a 2023 OBW, every time I get in my OBW I smile and learn something new about it! I really didn’t know any features from my sales person, the service department guy showed me some cool stuff about the tailgate sensor, your channel and the info you put out should be standard knowledge for Subaru dealers across the board. I hope Bachman really treats you well and keeps encouraging you to put more knowledge out there, I’ll prob make the trip to purchase my next Subaru from ya as well! Thanks again!

I just bought my first Subaru on Saturday. It's a new 2021 Forester. I've been watching your videos to help me figure out all the hidden gems on my car. I didn't even know the Subaru logo on my fobs had a purpose until I watched this video.🤦 My last car was a 2001 Toyota Corolla that had a cassette player and radio. LOL Needless to say my mind is mush with the overload of things I'm learning about my new car! 😬

@@alexpmo My best friend and her hubby have a 2017 Outback and they weren't aware of all the different things their car could do until I told them to watch your videos. They know not all of the newest and coolest things apply to their car tho. BTW- don't fully open a moonroof when it's 40°f outside and you're doing 75mph down the road. The inside of my car went from comfortable to North Pole cold in 2.7 seconds flat as soon as the glass slid back! I just had to see how my Forester handled with it wide open. Definitely felt the drag on the aerodynamics! Ah, but what a blast tho!😁🥶
