thank you for sharing. I have similar issues with my 2003 745li bmw and should change the oxygen sensors first to have the secondary air injection system ready for smog check… very helpful information.

Can you explain what you did in the description. Unfortunately I couldn’t quite understand what you did to repair it.

This is 2004 BMW 328i with over 200k miles. It didn’t pass the Smog because the secondary air pump was not ready. I replaced the front Oxygen sensor Bank 1 and Bank 2. Then, it passed Smog. Hope you find it helpful.

Bank 1 and bank 2 o2 sensers cleaned or replaced I think he mentioned 🤔 lol

New O2 sensors fixed the Secondary air pump monitor? Interesting

Yes -- this can happen with a marginal O2 sensor, because the SAI test requires detecting a subtle increase in the pre-cat O2 percentage when the pump turns on.
