SEC Challenger Commercial Side Loader! -- pt 1

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I am quite excited to bring more footage to the limited amount that exists of this method of collection.
Its been a long time in the making for me personally. I used to see commercial side load dumpsters out here in the desert as a kid when we went out to the desert to ride, and for many years wondered how they picked them up. And since then I found out through KZread and other sites and have been wanting to film it myself. A nice 5 hour drive, leaving a bit after 1 am got us here just in time to see the trucks shortly after they left the yard. You'll notice its bright and sunny, not morning... well theres more to come. So heres a bit to get things going. Filmed in Blythe, CA
A bit more on the truck, this is a Southwestern Equipment Company (SEC) Commercial side loader, model is the Challenger. The body is a 33 yarder with standard full-eject. This particular truck is a late 2007 or early 2008 model. Over all, the speed is very similar to that of a front loader, cycle and packing time included. Though it has the obvious convenience of moving from dumpster to dumpster like a more traditional automated side loader would. This truck can collect residential carts, 60 and 90 gallons with its fold-away grippers. Possibly even 250, 300 and 450 gallon containers as well. And lastly I would like to thank the awesome crew of PVD for allowing us to film their trucks throughout the day.
Special thanks to Jared for getting us out here. Finally got to accomplish a goal I had set many many years ago, which was to film these trucks. So I am very excited to bring these videos to you guys! Thanks for watching my videos over the years, means a lot. Enjoy!
Not sure when part 2 will be up of this truck - keep checkin' in though
And apparently there was a pretty heated argument going on at the end of the last clip if you listen closely. I dont remember that part in person haha

Too bad I never find or even see these. :( Well, this was WAYYY better than not seeing one on here at all! It is going to take a lot to beat this video! WOW!!

Great video. They had trucks similar to this when I was a kid except they were Truxmore barrel side loaders. They ran 2 different trucks. Some with full open sides for residential and the others were for commercial side loaders. If you could ever get a shot of this trucks packer in action that would be amazing. I have always liked trucks that utilize a full compaction cycle such as these! Great find.

Wow, I've never seen a truck like this before. It seems that it can't hold as much material that a normal FL could hold though. Great job!

Wow this truck is amazing. I knew these trucks existed but they are really common in Europe :I Very cool the truck pulls up to the dumpster and tips it to pick it up instead of using forks!!! Wow :0 I'm astonished at the year this monster is. I knew it was quite new once I saw that it had a pretty new autocar grill. Great job and work!!! If they use this for commercial I wonder what they use for residential? :0 I beat it was totally worth the drive?!!!

Absolutely stunning, this is an awesome truck shame that this isn't a more popular model as it seems to be quite fast. It seems that it would be quite good 300 gal bin collections in the tight alleys over there.

Whoa!!!!! This is a top quality find! I've been wanting to see some better, longer and closer footage of this job in action for ages = thank you Mike. I thought this commercial SL system was almost extinct up north? Pretty new truck to go with the job too, seems I'm wrong... awesome roar to this Autocar too! Exactly how does the latching mechanism work on these trucks? Just the two cylinders next to the rails which power the lift / dumping? Beyond insane job on catching this beautiful truck!!!

Congrats on your accomplishment! The phrases commercial side loader and so-cal don't really mix, but they sure do in Blythe! Fantastic video, if this is located in Blythe I can't wait to see what else you filmed. Are they going to paint these in CR&R colors?

  • @macdonaldjohnstonfan
    @macdonaldjohnstonfan12 жыл бұрын

@3amrepmike3 Very true, its hard to convert people over. What they could have done is design the body around an FL bin, however it would make the hopper very long and so on, shame there are no universal bins. If the bins were permanently set out in a line this truck would beat an FL for sure as there wouldn't be any mucking around reversing and manoeuvring the truck to the next bin, it would be a nice straightforward collection, just like a normal ASL garbage truck.

@r6man2 not sure if CR&R will paint them. They said in a statement tht the only changes to happen, if any, will be internal. So PVD might keep their name. Its an interesting story on how CR&R got it if you google *Palos Verde Disposal sold* This used to be a VERY popular process in the deserts. Many haulers used these in Brawley, Westmorland, parts of El Centro and more, but Republic and CR&R took over those companies and changed everything there. Used to be Volvo and Pete310 Pak-Mors everywhere

Cool.I had never heard of SEC or PVVD until I saw this. Does PVVD have a website? I know SEC does. How many trucks does PVVD operate, and do they do recycling and compost? Did you take a trip to Ehrenberg or Quartzsite while you were there?

  • @RecologySMCKid

@3amrepmike3 So where does the garbage from PVVD go? Do they run a transfer station? No recycling?! I thought there was some state mandated diversion rate. How many trucks do they run? Darn,it'd be cool to see what Ehrenberg and Quartzsite have.

@3amrepmike3 Dadee aren't making a Commercial Side Loader. Before the creation of Dadee they were (and still are) Arizona Refuse Sales and are a distributor of Impac products hence the picture on their website. What is cool is that they have a picture of this very truck framed up on their wall...its pretty bitch'n
