Seattle City Council may revise delivery pay law following restaurant, gig worker pushback
Seattle City Council seeks to make changes to a controversial delivery pay ordinance following months of pushback from restaurants and gig workers who report a loss of income as a result of the new rules.
The PayUp law enacted Jan. 13 was supposed to ensure minimum wage paid by companies including Doordash, UberEats, and Instacart, but restaurants and customers have said it backfired.
“Fight the Fee” was the message many food delivery workers displayed on signs in front of a city council committee on Thursday. They were referring to the roughly $5 added fee put onto customers. That's for delivery companies like DoorDash and UberEats to cover increased operating costs under the new law requiring delivery workers to make $26.40 an hour, plus mileage and before tips.
A few drivers said it's working for them.

the damage is already done and people knows they can get cheaper meal by some other means
stopped using doordash.
Revenue is down for restaurants and delivery apps, which means less tax for Seattle. That's why the Seattle City Council wants to fix the problem. I hope other consumers do what I do to avoid the fees: I order pickup and pay the neighbor kid to go pick u the food.
Luxury costs.

Its a luxury to get a delivery, many people will just go pick it up.. The 2nd thing is the prices on delivery menu are higher than at the place as well so they save money in multiple ways.
Stop hurting the market by political interference. It will work itself out by itself.
There should be laws and standards to tips and fees. Stop st-ripping off consumers!
Just go back to classic dash scree this delivery app ordinance
They knew what they were getting themselves into when they decided to do it.

They got hit with a new lawsuit. 😆 Delivery services like Uber. DOORDASH will end up becoming a thing in the past because of the fees. Pretty soon, people will just buy there own shit with no middle man service.
All the money that they are paying for one pizza 🍕 flower Dole pepperoni cheese yeast salt sugar tomato sauce tomatoes a little bit of garlic. I could probably cook 20 pizzas for are spending..... Should probably just have somebody go over to your work site and cook some food.....

You also have Labor, Insurance, Rent, Utilities, taxes etc to pay as a business your not including in your home baked prices
why are they protesting when they could just find another job? gig work will always be unstable regardless if these laws get passed or not.

All these apps just don't want to pay their drivers, that's so obvious. They're trying so hard to keep their profit. Everybody wants the happy ending. But I think ordering food still luxury privilege. To operate delivery service cost money as well idk..

Delivery app companies are not running a charity, they are running a business.

$26 an hour + 70 cents a mile? how much profit margin do you think is in the fees w/o raising prices? Even at $5 fee they dont make up for the increases
