My Stratos Bass boat's hydraulic helm, was seized in one direction after sitting for 8 years. Now I'm going to fix it.

I have a sea star helm and can't get the outer housing and spool separated. I replaced a few O-rings and rear gasket last year but it's still leaking, out of the spool shaft O-ring I believe. Any special method on separating these parts?

RyanMaheu, other then the 6 screws in the back, by the valve body I don't know any other way to separate the reservoir fron the spool. You ha to do that to change the seal on the shaft.

Okay NOT GOOD!!!!! internal parts cannot be purchased by individuals, the reason why he is cleaning all these parts like this. All the sanding and grinding not a good idea! Seal kits can be bought but not the internal parts. Pier 21 Marine Located in Louisiana is a Authorized Seastar Hydraulic Service Center which repairs cylinders and helms with a WARRANTY 2yrs. I strongly advise on checking them out!

Connor Manale; Thank you for the comment, I believe in all these videos I never recommend this as an alternative, more so as look into how these helms are put together and what they do. I will say that what I did to my helm worked very well and I am on year number 2 after what I did to mine. The process of what did are are proven processes for treating materials of this nature, with minimal material removal.
