    Thanks so much for this extremely useful video. After watching a few times, I was able to make an educated choice for a plate at our local skate shop. So, I did go for the Energy plate, after you explained that it was only different due to a toe plug/stopper space. I am also grateful that you took the time out to discuss skate hardware with me recently and now my "dream" skates are cooking... next dream is I hope I get them before Christmas...Thanks again

    Awesome review!!! I have 168 arius on size 9 Solaris as well as 174 arius in size 9 3200. I have never skated with king pin trucks but had been waiting over 2 months for a set of 170 killers that I plan to mount on size 9 951. You review illustrated almost all that I was anticipating except I didn’t consider the wheel sizes. I have been using rollline animals in 55mm and this may be an issue. As if I wasn’t anxious enough to compare the 2 plates already. Now I really am like a little kid waiting for an anticipated 1st bicycle.

    Great Review 🔥 I currently have a classica with a rolline ring plate but started with my riedell 120 boot mounted on my arius platinum. i plan on taking the arius off and mounting it on a ice skating boot or 3200. i hated the stiff cushions and always enjoyed softer and am now on the softest orange. i think using a stiffer boot, which i never have, will let the stiffer cushions shine ✨ The Rolline Ring plate I got later on and it is a great plate, the click action system and cushion setup allow for very accurate tuning. But the Arius can hold an edge so well it ridiculous, theres moves ive done on it i cant do on my rolline with nearly as much ease. If it wasn’t for the nut being so easy to strip & the amount of time it takes to swap cushions, the arius is king

    Interesting insight with stiff cushions and a soft boot. Never considered the effects of such a combo. A stiffer boot will always outperform a softer boot due to the amount of stability it provides.

    From what I've read in the Roll Line product line up booklet, The "Dance" plate is designed for skaters of a certain weight range. Personally they look similar to the Giotto in terms of truck angle, and I would rather jump with the Giotto plate instead (cause of my weight).

The roll line brand has been my dream skate plate for years, and now that I’m a grown woman with disposable income, I’m just happy that I could afford them 😂 I definitely like having the option to put a dance plug in, while learning to do the 1 foot toe spin, I’m afraid if my boot hits the ground too much I’ll ruin it.

    Andre, thanks for such an informative and funny video! I wonder if I can ask you if you would recommend the Arius for a pretty new skater who wants to learn dance moves. I've heard that the Arius has no "center" and can be difficult to control, at least for skaters less skilled than someone like you.

  • @Andvilsk8s

    @Andvilsk8s

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes I do! The Arius plate "not having a center" makes no sense. The reason people think that it doesn't have a center is because they are most likely using soft cushions which reduces the stability of the plate when standing still (a lot of skaters don't know or ever bother to change their cushions after buying a plate). For me I found that the Yellow-Green (maybe Navy Blue if you're heavier) offers a decent mix between stability and agility (being able to lean and crave on your edges with ease). Definitely get the plate, it'll last you forever! 😁

    Great review!!! thanks for this. Getting ready to build a new skate. I currently have a Klingbeil Custom with the Gittos. I LOVE the set up and was going to get the same plate but wanted to try a shorter plate. Did you size down the Arius plate? Curious how mush shorter you went. I know the shorter plate give you better toe control from what I understand. Do you have any other insights into the benefits of the front plates sitting behind the ball of your foot? I also have a 180 Giotto. Not sure what the next size down is but will check. Any insight is always appreciated.

    I was lucky to get the Arius plate (since they're hard to come by) the same size as my Giotto's, 180. I had to mount the Arius plate as far back as I could to get the front wheels under the ball of my foot. If I had to choose a smaller plate I may do a size 165 or 170. Need to learn more about plate sizing to determine how much shorter in MM or Inches the plates get.

    Great review. Been thinking about the arius for some time. Can you tell me the boot size as interested in your preference on plate size (180). Also were the new holes required to fit the arius a problem, as in close to the previous roll line holes? As i will also be fitting to an old boot with a roll line plate currently fitted.

  • @Andvilsk8s

    @Andvilsk8s

    My boot size is 10. New holes had to be drilled in order to fit the Arius plate on the boot. So now I have 2 set of holes, one for the Giotto plate and one for the Arius. I needed new holes to get the Arius plate as far back as I could to get the front wheel behind the ball of my foot. In hindsight I would go with a smaller plate (170 or 160) for a better fit on the boot.

    I frequently see some of the best rhythm/jam/dance skaters at my rink in Riedell 3200, fusion 2010, and flair 910 boots. It appears they all leave their laces a bit loose with these super stiff setups. I’m wondering on the “why” behind this - what advantage/performance, if any, you get out of a super stiff boot if you don’t lace it up snug? I have some riedell 120’s on arius plates with og vanathane wheels and am curious about these stiffer boots so wanted to ask the question. I mainly do medium fast shuffle and rhythm skating around outside (not much middle work) so wondering if I’d even see any benefit?

  • @Andvilsk8s

    @Andvilsk8s

    11 ай бұрын

    In a nutshell, the stiffness of those boots, When Properly Sized, will fit your feet like a pair of gloves/socks. That's how we can get away with having them loose. Also there is a greater range of motion the feet and ankles can move around in due to not being tied up all the way. Its an experience that one has to try in order to understand unfortunately. Fun fact: I was originally going to get the Fusion 2010 😁

    @@user-cm9kr2bh2w The Fusion 2010 doesn't have ColorLab, so it would've cost me more. The 3200 came out to be less expensive, since it came with ColorLab already and getting the boots reinforced to the same level as the Fusion 2010 was a small fee. 😊

    Do you have the hardest cushions on the Roll Lines? What's your weight? I only started skating a couple years ago and since getting comfortable I've been using softer and softer cushions. However, I'm now thinking maybe harder cushions would be better for spins and overall stability? Hint: I'm sure i weigh quite a bit more than you lol. I weight over 155 lbs (70 kg) and found myself using the urethane yellow cushions after experimenting with different combinations. The stability of the harder cushions is definitely useful when it comes to spinning and overall stability. IDK how you're managing with the 2nd softest cushions if you're heavier than me! 😅 You'll definitely feel the difference after you make the switch.

    Personally I couldn't really tell much of a difference other than the Roll Line having a slightly taller center of gravity than the Arius plate. During my tests I found that my skating technique overshadowed any differences in truck action, especially since I made the trucks of both plates to be stiffer. I did find that the Roll Line allows you to fine tune the truck action (swapping cushions and tightening/loosing the lock nut) compared to the "take it or leave it" nature of the Arius plate. Which is good since Arius cushions are usually $20 per set and some colors are hard to come by.

    Fantastic review! I've been using the arius as my daily driver. Main reason for choosing them, less parts to fiddle with and how light they were. Granted there's a bit learning in the beginning to figure out what cushions to go with, but once you are past that its gold. I also had the same issue as you did with the pin falling out. I was so excited to try them out, that on the first session my front truck came right off. I should have checked they were screwed in properly from the factory. Also a tip for any one else, make sure to buy an extra screw/pin and the plastic sleeve. You'll be waiting a while if any of those parts break. See you at the rink.
