Sea World Shamu Show with Dawn Brancheau- 3 days before she was killed by an orca!!!

The movie was recorded in February 21st 2010, at Florida Sea World Park.
Later on the movie you can see Dawn Brancheau performing.
Just 3 days later Dawn Brancheau was killed by Tilikum, a killer whale or orca..After a show.Brancheau was rubbing Tilikum as part of a post-show routine when the orca grabbed her by her ponytail or left arm and pulled her into the water. Dawn Brancheau was only 40 years old when she tragically died.
Tilikum died on January 6th, 2017 from an infection, at 35 years old.

Yup and witnesses said he grabbed her left arm. The pictures of her, IN THE WATER WITH HIM right before he grabs her shows her next to him. On a 4-5" platform or not, she was right next to him, lying down, in the water, where he easily could reach her full body... and he did. SeaWorld should have had much stricter rules for a whale that had already killed 2 people.

It's sad when anyone gets hurt, but be real - these animals do not have a bond to their trainer, as perhaps the trainer has to them. They are not domesticated animals but apex predators that are highly intelligent. They are held captive and given a few dead fish when they do as they are told. They are slaves and they want and deserve their freedom. The performances look amazing, but it's inhumane. Given the choice those animals would want to be with their pods in the ocean, not in a pool with humans.

I also thought the performance looked amazing & I felt guilty. Swimming with these animals must be even more incredible than watching it. However, if I cannot swim with them in the wild or watch others swimming with them in the wild it isn't going to happen, because there's far more to this than just watching the performances. The rest of their lives are a living hell & every time we pay to watch them were contributing to their pain & suffering!

Swimming with wild orca really isn't dangerous. They don't consider humans a food item.....in fact, in the wild there have been no attacks on people. When Orca do run into people (in the wild) they're often friendly and inquisitive. In captivity, however, their mental state is very different. They're not happy, they're not relaxed, they're stressed out and often depressed. They're entirely different when they're free.

It’s so sad she died. She seemed like such a wonderful person, you can really feel her happy energy through the screen from any footage I’ve seen of her. I hope both Dawn and Tilly have found peace now, wherever they are. It’s honestly also sad the orcas can’t have the trainers in the water anymore. I’m sure that was a big part of their enrichment and given how much social bonds mean to orcas it wouldn’t surprise me if they miss them. Just think about how many years Dawn had been at SW without any problems before. To be clear, I hate that there are captive orcas. It never should have happened and sometimes just thinking about it is enough to make me cry. There are no words for how I feel about the people who took these magnificent creatures from their homes and put them in small tanks for our amusement and to earn money. But I don’t agree with people who act like training them is part of the cruelty too. Think of a highly energetic and intelligent dog breed-if you can’t let them work with what they were bred for, like herding or hunting etc, you HAVE to be a very dedicated trainer and spend hours every day giving them mental stimulation, or else they could never be happy. There must be a suitable substitute for the natural drives. Now imagine how much smarter an orca is than a dog. As much as I wish we could release them, the orcas can’t just be let back into the wild. They depend on humans now. So it’s up to humans to make sure they’re as happy as they can possibly be. Surely training them to keep their minds stimulated is a huge part of that.

It's a tragity for both. An animal is an animal and will behave like one. I am sure Dawn never thought this would happen. The problem is, we put human emotions on animals and predicte there behavior as a human would react. It's not just orcas but big cats, lizards, snakes and forth. Everyone who died at the hands of their pet forgot that it's an animal and will behave like one. I watched a video we're a family has a coyote and let's it sleep with their child. A tragity waiting to happen. None of these creatures should be kept in captivity.

What? Her pony tail had nothing to do with anything. Many female trainers wore their hair that way. Orcas didn't care about her hair style. If they wanted to grab her, they had 2 legs or two arms to grab her by. Or, they could've grabbed her by the waist. Or, the head. They didn't need her hair a certain way in order to grab her.

The orcas at seaworld eat what is similar to a fast food diet. They get frozen fish which lacks the proper nutrients they need and totally cuts out their predator instinct to hunt their own food and because the fish is frozen it is severely lacking in the water content that the orcas need to survive. Keep in mind these animals swim hundreds of miles a day and hunt things as big as sea lions and even in rare cases, Great White Sharks which have a lot of water content to satisfy these large animals. Seaworld supplements the animals lack of water by feeding them gelatin which is extremely calorically dense and makes the orcas appear fatter than they would be if they just had the fish diet. But some orcas in their care are still considered underweight when compared to wild orcas. It’s so sad that it took multiple people losing their lives for change to start happening in the marine park industry. Still Seaworld has the Orcas and other intelligent marine creatures in their custody, and while they’ve stopped the circus style shows they still have the orcas perform instead of releasing them to be rehabilitated in their natural habitat. Of course Sea World will hold onto their Orcas for as long as they can because they are by far the biggest money drawing aspect of the park but it’s sad to see that these orcas could very well languish in the park for another 50 years instead of being allowed to live in open ocean.

They blamed her ponytail which is a lie. Witnesses say he grabbed her arm. She had a long ponytail in all these shows. No one was supposed to be in the water with him and she was in the water, albeit on a platform, but still submerged in 4-5 inches of water and right next to his face in the pool. It wasn't the ponytail. He had an opportunity and he took it. They did not take his 2 prior murders seriously and even had code "Tilly Talk" at SeaWorld indicating that he you wouldnt survive if you got in the water with him. She should have been protected better by her employers who should have had much stricter rules.
