Re your instances of aircraft spotted, you take damage and then escape. According to rules there are two options after taking damage from an aircraft, role Aircraft again, hoping for escape roll or attempt emergency escape which costs fuel. In this case with this option, would not had enough fuel to return.

Nice catch, I don’t remember now, would I have had enough reserve fuel?

@@HissyCat Further reading the rules. If used a 2nd Aircraft Attack roll option, you would escape regardless of whether damage or not (small print under Escape Maneuver Table). With fuel so tight would have to go with a 2nd roll on the Attack table and hope for the best. Fuel leak or diesel damage would be a disaster as not enough duel to get back.
