I liked the style, it had a reasonable flare that the boat driver didn’t know how to use. It needed more trim to get bow up, so the hull could land on top of the wave and push water aside. Boat driver aka steering wheel holder, was plowing into waves, coming off of one wave with the bow pitched down and stuffing it into the next wave, that was above the bow deck. Poorly demonstrated for a boat in that $$$ class, to very picky clients.

This channel never fails to provide great, and abundant, examples of people with more money than brains. I retired from the aviation business which is afflicted by the same syndrome. The difference is general aviation tends to kill those who suffer from the ailment a bit quicker. Being a successful lawyer or doctor, does not a competent boat captain, make you! Nor does being wealthy improve aviation skills. But egos are huge and can be impossible to overcome. But the sea cares naught about such things, nor does the earth when it collides with your broken flying machine. One of my truisms is: “Never Underestimate the Ability of an Intelligent Person to make Stupid Decisions."

The balance of the Apache is phenominal. It stayed up on plane & stable, with what appears to be a very dry ride impressive. As for your mystery boat, it appears to be an early 90's SeaRay Express or Sundancer. No way to tell from the outside of the hull, as they are the same. The difference is in engine placement & straight vs. V - drives. Most definately not a factory paint job.

Meh, I'm going to go with trendy "wave piercing" hull design makes for a wet ride. And maneuvering to the sides of the inlet doesn't showcase how the vessel does in heavy seas, which is what I think they wanted to see. So, it "pierced" those waves just like it was supposed to, the only question is why you would want a pleasure boat to do that. And I can only imagine those passengers in the rear that were getting their eyelids pealed back by all that cold ass salt water slapping them in the chest and face were wondering the same thing. 😃

Those boats that look like submarines tend to submarine. Both of those Cigarette guys showed the Apache how it's done in that class of boat--keep your speed up and drive over everything. The dark gray boat at 5:55 gave a very effective lesson in surfing a following sea, and made a very nice way though the inlet. Speed must be dead on, maintaining steerageway at all times. Very smooth.

I've finally found something in the Midnight Express price bracket that handles a head sea even worse than they do. Yes some of it was driver error but to me it appears that there is something very wrong with the hull design on that first boat. And oh boy, imagine the detailing and repair bills after that drenching in salt! Apache, however, damn I'm in love with that beast. She must be the most glorious way to waste huge amounts of money in a marine environment ever. Yes, there are faster and certainly newer designs but that hull and that boat in particular are perfection to me. She'll also blast right past a lot of the newer stuff when the seas come up a bit.

Right on! ME’s are some of the worst sea UNworthy vessels out there. They’re great in glass calm but even a small swell will cause distress. If I was spending that kind of money on a boat last on my list would be ME’s. Midnight Express = Little pecker syndrome

  • @marvindebot3264

@@DanielC__ Agreed, I've driven MEs from 750 right up to 2500hp and they are fun in the calm but if I'm spending upwards of a million bucks ()assuming you want whole lot of outboards) I want something that can handle a seaway. Hell, most of the go-fast cats are better in the rough stuff than an ME. Yes, they take a bit more skill to drive hard, fast and safe but if you can't be bothered learning how don't buy crazy expensive boats. I've also never understood this obsession for big opens, if you want something big and fast that isn't an all-out racer buy a classic Magnum, you will never break that and you stay dry.

As beamy as Duh Say 42 seems at top-deck level, it appears to be rather "fine" (narrow) at the waterline... i.e. is there even room for a usable cabin+head in that overpriced toy? Methinks it's targeted at middle-aged (divorced) bachelors who want to bar & grill hop along the Intracoastal... always a salient market. 😁

Nothing is impossible but most boats you see at places like these are typically built for it. But like everything else you can't beat on a hull day in and day out for 30 years and expect it to still have the integrity it once had.
