Did you figure out what it was that made it catch to start with, currently going through the same install with mine.... Also do you know if your drift shaft spline should fairly easily move from left to right and up and down, I used my hands to slide mine onto the impeller and noticed the shaft it's self moves quite easily... it is a 2021 so assuming not that typical shaft issue you went through... unfortunately couldn't think of anyone to ask!

You should always grease the end of the drive shaft the splines inside the Impala

Surely thats the whole point of the plastic wear ring. Imagine the damage you could have done to your impellor and drive staft if whatever you sucked up had been mashed between your impellor and the stainless wear ring instead of the plastic one. I admit I've never tried one, but if you suck something up (other than sand and small twigs) its going to do more damage.

Not sure SS wear ring is good for your drive shaft/prop should you get a jam

You had both wear rings installed wrong , most likely why plastic one got damaged as with the stainless touched, the tab goes in between the bolt hole.

You're right, but there's no problem with doing it this way, I've asked multiple sources. All came back inconclusive of issues

Im having the same problem with it scraping. Was wondering if my stock impeller was bent but apart from samd scratches it doesn't look damaged.

most likely it is very slightly off alignment. This is why stainless wear rings are dangerous amongst other problems.

Maybe its just my OCD, but I’m bothered by putting the damaged impeller back into the stainless wear ring...

I filed it down, belt the edges back into place the best it can. It had a near-perfect seal. While this isn't ideal, it's the best I can get without a new one on hand. However, I will be replacing the impeller with a skat-trak next year for science! Actually, I'll be buying a few of them to test!

The motor was off alignment, I went over this in one of the latest videos. More than anything since the driveshaft was unaligned from the motor it was causing it to catch. I did pull the shaft and maneuver it a few times to make sure it was in properly after. However, being off alignment caused the destruction of the PTO. This is a factory / build defect.

Well it's really up to the owner. Plastic ones tend to wear down a lot quicker and break a lot easier. Metal ones don't seem to have quite the same seal but they won't wear down as fast in salt water or normal riding. Just beware of the shallows, beaching or sucking anything hard up... You might have catastrophic damage on a stainless if something were to be lodged in there, where as a plastic wear ring would just break. I'll probably do another video on this, but all depends on the habits of the rider.

Miami Max, I also live down in Miami. I have 12/15 custom pitch solas prop from Impros as well. I would stick with OEM style plastic ring as it helps to avoid more damage to the prop if you get a foreign object sucked up. I ride in the ocean most of the time, and there is no risk of choppiness messing up a stock wear ring. I've gone from Dania beach to Haulover beach many times which zero issues. Always start you ski in minimum of 3 feet (or balls deep) water and you should be fine. Thanks.

If you’re careful and don’t hit everything you see stainless is fine. If you’re like the op you should stick with plastic.

What did you have to do, so the impeller wouldn't bind? I don't think you addressed that at 7:30 when you said you got it back into place correctly.

We Try Motorsports, you might want to try the R&D pump seal for a better seal on the metal wear ring and prevents it from moving compared to OEM rubber seal. Also I couldn't see to clearly, but make sure the 2 tabs from SS wear ring are not on the water tube but the metal post as it will cut thru the water tube. Keep up the posts as there isn't enough Spark content.

DO NOT PUT THE WEAR RING GUIDE ON THE PLASTIC STRAIGHT PIPE. If you do you will have disable your entire skii when wear ring breakS. Place it on the metal bolt tube next to it to the right about 10 degrees.

Can that be why mine is leaking after replacing the wear ring because I have it on that plastic piece? Causing it not to be flush all the way? Too many videos I've seen with it on that plastic piece
