Hey mikky, I was here for likeness sculpting bro. but you skipped that part. I wanted to see how you matched the model with photo reference as it is difficult in zbrush to match them properly. We would love to see that part. I wish you had recorded it.

I'll follow up when I do the ghoul version. spoiler alert if you don't feel like waiting, use the move brush and standard brush for a few boring hours, there's no magic solutions that I'm aware of

@@MichaelPavlovich Yes, There is no magic solutions in zbrush for that. And I agree it's a boring process and we have to go through this process for likeness. I'll wait for the ghoul version. I have learned so much from your tutorials. I wonder how you remember all those tiny tricks and tips in zbrush. I think you know all the secrets of zbrush. 😉 Thanks for those tuts. You are the best. 👍🔥

I'm a little confused, what was the likeness part of this? It seems like you just had scan data, am I wrong?

scan data for pore detail only, unfortunately I don't have a scan of mr. goggins 😄

@@Ricardosv1 y'all, its literally setting it up exactly how i did, then spend a few hours moving verts a few millimeters at a time until all the views match more or less. Not real intriguing to watch during a livestream, but also not real difficult. I promise you can do it!!

@@MichaelPavlovich Well it's not a matter of if I can do it or not, cause I can also do likeness; but there is something to be said about someone at your level doing something like that. Probably doesn't make a good stream, I understand, but you can't honestly put "Sculpting a Likeness" when the video features none of that.

I'll be more explicit when I livestream The Ghoul version of him, but I think you'll be disappointed - move brush, standard brush, and matching what you see in ref switcher. I'm getting sleepy just describing it 😴

Brilliant In reference to the likeness. is it possible to 3d print by just using this method? Or will I need to fully sculpt the base mesh manually to get Walter's likeness ready for 3d printing

  • @MichaelPavlovich

You'd have to move the verts around on the base mesh into the spots where your likeness demands it, but once you're done with that, yes a simple export to 3D print should do it!

Miro ties directly into my note taking system, is on the cloud and accessible and updatable from anywhere, so I haven't really seen the need to have another program to just move images and text around locally 🤷

Many artists will disagree with me , But i believe that using ready models is cheating , when i started this career , I used to think that Artists do everything themselves , but I was shocked to found out that they cheat a lot

you don't have too much time in your whole life to use for one recurring task over and over again, when artists get more experience, they will find out the easier way and faster way to make their life easier man. You can probably use that time to do more amazing work and improve your art sense. Of course, you can always practise whatever you think you lack.

You should do everything yourself when practicing, but in production and projects that you need to finish - "cheat" away.

When you practice or do your personal work, use clay ball (sphere). When you are in production you have to start with a base mesh.

  • @qyoinqyuri

For the learning phase I definitely agree with starting from sphere. But believe me, creating a basemesh becomes a menial task and does not improve skills at some point in your journey. The last thing professional sculptors want (when working in production) is to re-establish proper topology again and again, especially when it's concerning overlapping areas such as eyes, mouth bag, etc.
