Sculpting a Future for E-Waste
Teenage artist Zayd Menk believes that in a perfect world, there’d be no waste. The 18-year-old has witnessed firsthand the hazards disposed technology creates for poorer communities in his hometown of Harare, Zimbabwe. Motivated by his belief in a circular economy-one where used items are transformed into something new and useful rather than thrown away-he creates intricate art from found objects. Now, he’s partnered with Hewlett Packard Enterprise and their Technology Renewal Center to build a model of London’s Westminster area, solely out of e-waste. It’s a collaboration that promotes ingenuity, sustainability and a better way of doing business.

Aneesa Ismail Menk Asalamu Alaikum. Are you a relative to Mufti Menk ?
I live in America and it seems that most people have given up on the environment. I do a similar thing by collecting my favorite prices of "junk" and making sculptures of animals out of tape cardboard and plastic mostly. You are a major inspiration! Your art is amazing. Anyone can create anything given the motivation. But nobody can recreate what you create!

Computer parts look like cities... I know, right? :D great idea for art. This guy is amazing
Hi, wish you a happy year!

A few times I wanted to buy some e-waste to repair those old computers, but recycling centre asked outrageous price. For them it is better to destroy than to repurpose.

Wow this is a cool thing to do with broken electronics! If I tried I would well get zapped and it would be a failure
Nice idea, and everything. However, you are able to see the lumps of silicon coming out from the seams.

if anyone knows how to make a HP 250 G1 laptop run better and quieter, that would be nice.
Dang
The waste is still there after it is made into art it just is broken up and looks different
WallE?
So how much e-waste did HP remove from Zimbabwe vs how much "new" e-waste they gave to Zayd?
The tycoons that benifited from all the ewaste created need to clean that shit up.
How to improve it
I'd buy one for my wall.
We make cities
God those cities look cool. Reminds me of those times my dad (who scraps metal) will hand me a old desktop he find and i smash it with a hammer, as my 10 year old self. Good fun

Sawing off electronics like this would release microtoxins into the atmosphere. There are safer methods for actually recycling e-waste.

When the British controlled parts of Southern Africa they imported many Southeast Asian laborers. Same reason why there are many in the Caribbean (Guyana, Jamaica, Trindad & Tobago) as well
This video was sponsored by T-series
What a waste. I could salvage some of those components from his "art"
This sounds like bullshit. Who is actually recycling?
