When should I get my scuba diving certification refreshed or how often to do a scuba refresher are common questions asked. It depends on your scuba diving training organization, what their standards are on how often you should do a scuba diving refresher course. This can be 6 months, 12 months, or even longer after your last scuba dive. In the end, it is about your safety, so why not be safe and do a scuba refresher course often.
How much does a scuba refresher course cost?
This depends on the location and the Dive shop, but in general, it is between 20 to 100 USD around the world.
The scuba refresher course is really valuable.
What skills are required for a scuba refresher course?
This also depends on your scuba training organization. Some organizations want you to repeat a strict amount of scuba skills during your refresher course while others are less strict and let you choose what scuba skills you would like to practice/repeat during your scuba diving refresher course. In this youtube video do I covered most scuba skills that you might encounter in your scuba refresher course.
Should I refresh myself in confined water (swimming pool) or open water?
I recommend refreshing yourself first in confined water and if needed ask a Divemaster or Diving Instructor to refresh your scuba skills also in the open water. When you feel comfortable enough you can sign up for a fun dive again or continue your scuba diving education by joining the next course. For example, a lot of people only do the first open water diver course and then might need a scuba refresher course before they join the second advanced open water diver course.

Excellent presentation! just don't forget to constantly monitor your SPG gauge while on your dive and you should call the dive at 500 psi so you will have plenty of air for a 3 min. 15' safety stop. And of course, to wash your gear completely with fresh water ( warm if possible ) after your done. Iv'e been diving since 1969 and have been a NAUI/PADI and L.A County Instructor and I want to say that you did a great refresher presentation!

I really appreciate this video! I've watched it twice this week as part of my prep for my scuba refresher course. I haven't been able to dive since August 2020, for a number of reasons, after only having 3 dives beyond my OW certification, and I've been so nervous that I've forgotten everything prior to the refresher (and could panic or embarrass myself). This video has really helped me practice skills mentally and calmed my anxiety about the refresher. I'm excited now to get back in the water today and then into the Dead Sea in a few weeks on holiday!

NO No Jake, no slagging another operators on public comment, that you take care of with the dive shop you trained with. Keep in mind a refresher course is meant to realign you with the skills you are supposed to know as a certified diver not a retraining course. Clearly you did not get what you expected from your refresher course and that could only happen if you did not know what it was you were going to receive in exchange for your money. Unfortunately that is on you friend. If you like this mans videos just say GOOD JOB and keep the other stuff between you and your training facility that is the professional and right way to do it.
@jakeallgeier4503

@@omegadivingacademy7937 I don't see the harm in contrasting this video's content with a personal experience of my own. It isn't like I'm even naming the operator in question. Discussion and comparison of training in an open forum should not be censored IMO. My point is that this video provided a superior overview of openwater skills, many of which were not mentioned during my "refresher."
@omegadivingacademy7937
2 жыл бұрын
@@jakeallgeier4503 Again I say you never knew what you were paying for or you would have been happy with what you received. No censorship here just go back there and if you are not happy tell them and give them the chance to make you a happy customer. Now I was trying to be nice redirecting you to where you received the product you believe to be inferior. The point is not who the organisation was it is the attitude you are carrying though this. Grumbling about them if you feel you were short changed sort the issue out with them until you are happy not here. To boot you totally ignored the point I made, you paid for something without knowing the content, that is on you. Plus the comparison to this video is apples and pears comparison since it is focused on how to do the skills not retraining. These skills should have been ingrained in you from your first course and as previously stated a refresher is the chance to REFRESH your knowledge with the training experts present which is probably what you paid for. Furthermore read down the comments page and you will see no one else grumbling just appreciating the guys work.

Don’t forget this at disassembly: after you washed the equipment with fresh water turn your bcd upside down and let all of the remaining water out by pushing the deflate button and gently squeezing the bcd. Otherwise you will be wondering about all the overweight at the airport 😂 Great video and summary!

Thank you very much for making this video! My only suggestion / critique would be to turn the volume down on the subscribe and like button pop-ups. It's deafening under headphones while the sound is at max listening to your voice.

Yes I am aware, I can't change that anymore on this video, but will adjust it on next video's :)
If after a few sweeps you can't find you primary regulator, just use your back up. You can switch once your buddy retrieves you primary regulator

Great refresher: one note though, I think it's way less awkward if each person breathes and orally inflates their own thing. Like you can take turns: one buddy tells the other what to do and supervises them, then swap
@MarcelVanDenBerg1

Sure! You can also do that!
On the surface ,removing the weight belt you want to lean forward ( use regulator or snorkel ) look down to orientate the buckle to the strap , if you lay on your back the weights will pull away from you

In my experience you should wet the BC before tightening up the tank strap. Water will make the strap looser so tighten up the strap before getting in the water. I have seen people have their tanks come loose in the water because it wasn't pre wet and tighten up before getting into the water.

At least I said it, and yes I could have lifted that a bit better
Should the tank strap be wet before mounting the BCD on the tank? Ive seen both dry and wet mounts. Is there a concensus on this?
@MarcelVanDenBerg1
6 ай бұрын
It depends on the type if strap if it is needed or now :)
What would be the issue if the pressure gauge move during the breathing? You mentioned that on vid at 04:50 !

Your tank valve isnt open all the way or regulator probs
@MarcelVanDenBerg1
2 жыл бұрын
Usually because that tank valve is not open enough or something is wrong in your first stage.
What about closing the valve after checking how much air is in the scuba tank and waiting a while to see if there is any leakage?
