I started watching SCTV back in the mid-70s, when it was produced in Toronto at the old Global TV studio. That was before the show had ties to NBC on American TV. I totally agree! When the real commercial started I assumed that it was a sketch. It’s difficult for audiences today to understand the TV world of the late 70s and early 80s. SCTV was very skilled at parodying All aspects of television. It was the television of their time the late 70s and early 80s. @@canaisyoung3601 Fridays was very underrated. I used to watch it here on the local ABC affiliate when I was growing up but it was only on for a few years. One of the more memorable characters was the little boy played by a pre-Seinfeld Michael Richards who always used to destroy things in the midst of playing with his toys. Larry David was also involved in Fridays, so it wasn't surprising to see many of Richards' former Fridays co-stars make appearances throughout the run of Seinfeld. Mary Edith Burrell played the mother of a little boy always getting bad vibes from Jerry; Melanie Chartoff played the comedy club barmaid that George Costanza dated for some time (The Fire episode); and Bruce Mahler played the rabbi always horning in on Elaine Benes' personal affairs.

Just as funny as it was when I was a kid.
Like a Time Machine with the commercials, and that Elvis one was perfect, I thought it was a skit the way they cut it when it was becoming just big words that no trinket off TV could live up too.
This was the first show that I first saw John Candy back in the 70's.
Can't tell the WPEC ads from the SCTV ad spoofs.
Love having the local US TV station parts too; cant tell where the parody ends and the reality starts.

Haven’t seen this since it was new.

Snyder was complex but controlled, Needle was a f***in _mess._ He just had his guts out in every bit. Easily the meanest character on SCTV, considering Karl Bildenhausen only appeared once.
Interesting, no John Candy or Martin Short. MS must have moved to SNL and JC was making movies. Also in the commercials John Walsh was not known as host of America’s Most Wanted.
