    Thanks; the Titan was discontinued this year, replaced by the MacAllister MSPS1200 at £100. *NB: I haven't used this, I'm not recommending it.* I think you may have seen the "Triton" saw (TTS1400, orange coloured bodywork) which sells at £170 but is a different saw altogether. 👍

    Amazing. We live in North Carolina in the USA and Lidl started their entry into our country in this area. I travel to Germany for work and was initially amazed that grocery stores like Lidl and Aldi sold tools but have now purchased dozens of tools and DIY pieces and parts from both stores here. I have never owned a track saw and having a large shop and large stationary tools I’ve never desired them, but this series has opened my eyes to their versatility so I’ll be keeping my eyes out for this saw if it ever his our stores. Thanks for a great series, Peter! Scott

    Peter your channel is the best! Had been wanting to get into woodworking for a while, watching videos on KZread etc - I saw your original park side vid on my birthday - the 6th of June - went straight out and bought one and since then have started a few beginner projects and am turning a spare garage we have into a woodworking shed. Not sure what the neighbours think but I’m having a blast and my other half is very pleased I’m making things for the house and finally doing all the DIY I said I’d do over the last X years. So thank you from us both! The crosscut jig you showed has been really useful for cutting dados and grooves for joining, if I can work out how to cut mitres with it now I’ll be all set..!

    Nice video Peter, informative and clear as usual. Thank you, I’ve learnt a lot from you. I have the Titan saw which I got to cut 30mm beech worktops which it did easily. Like you I also found the kick back preventer a pain and eventually took it off. I now set up cuts on big sheets of 18mm ply very carefully and make sure I’ve got a good grip on the saw! I find the depth stop tricky to get right and the gauge untrustworthy. But it’s been a great tool and I have completely reconsidered my ambition to fit a table saw in my small workshop. Mine is just over a year old and came from Screwfix with 2 rail clamps. Maybe I just got lucky!

    Great info as ever Peter, cheers! I've used the Parkside for a couple of years, always worked fine if slightly rough and the rails feel a bit flimsy. Biggest improvement came from replacing the splinter strip with some thicker neoprene from eBay as per a previous video of yours. Good balanced comparison (Says I as a Parkside track saw owner!)… One more argument in favour of the Parkside model is the 3 year warranty... one year more than for the Titan. I'm glad these videos are bringing new, well deserved, visibility to your channel. It shows there is demand for quality reviews of equipment at the low end of the tool spectrum. On a related note, I'm sometimes wondering what one gets extra from buying premium branded tools (The Festool TS55 has some comfort features but it doesn't seem to cut better or faster, and I find it hard to justify the price difference).

    Hiya Peter. Yet another cracking upload. Very informative. I was using my parkside plunge saw today and I have to say that (particularly for the low price) its a pretty decent machine. I’ve got an Evolution circular saw which is very good for an economy saw as well but I must say the parkside is quite a bit quieter in operation. The restoration couple channel just bought the park side one and his had a poor chip strip on so wasn’t useable and had to be returned. Hi peter, I have just watched your review so I decided to go with the Titan as I thought it would be readily available. Alas Screwfix no longer sell it. The cheapest they do now is the Scheppach for £176.99p or the Erbauer for £179.99p. So it looks like I'll have to wait for Lidls to stock their one. It's a shame they don't an online shop for their electricals etc all year round.

    This might not be the best place to ask, but here goes. I have tried doing some 45deg cuts on my Titan and those seem to have cut more of the rubber strip making 90 deg cuts difficult to get accurate again as the strip is not straight anymore where the saw did a 45deg cut. Do the non-budget saws (Festool/Makita/others) do that too ? In a way a single beveled cut messed up my good rail (yes, I did reapply the strip and cut it again). Thanks

    I don’t know for sure, but I think Festool are the only saw that hits the splinterguard perfectly on a bevel cut; Mafell certainly doesn’t - the blade moves away from the normal cut line when you bevel it. 👍

    Hi David. The closest I’ve been to a Scheppach tracksaw is the Aldi I used for my Tracksaw Workshop series last year - made by Scheppach I believe. The splinterguard is replaceable - usually just held on with double-sided tape. I cover the procedure in the Tracksaw Workshop series. I used Makita splinterguards and they worked pretty well with the Aldi rails, but I had the best results with some slightly thicker rubber strip I bought from eBay. I show the advantages in video #286 - Splinterguard Swap - kzread.info/dash/bejne/mmWZ0ZaThqW6f7g.html. Again, I’ve no direct experience of the Scheppach saws I’m afraid, but my experience if the Aldi saw is that they would run poorly on Festool rails, I’m afraid. 🤷‍♂️👍

    A few questions spring to mind. Is Tech Support available? Are replacement parts available ? Do the importers have service centers of their own to repair product that they sell? Are the non importer service centers that exist ( I'm assuming that there are independent tool and machinery repair companies in the UK), willing and able to work on these tools. Given the low cost of these tools I imagine it's going to be less money to replace them than it is to repair them.

    Probably too late now but I have the Scheppach PL55Li (cordless version of PL55) and the Evolution tracks. The saw does not fit them properly as it overhangs the splinter guard so you can't cut it back. I ended up buying another 1400mm Scheppach rail for that saw and also buying a MacAllister saw from Screwfix (seems to be the replacement for the Titan saw featured here) for the Evolution tracks and that will cut the splinter guard, although not right up to the edge of the rail (not sure how important that is).

Maybe only some stores have some in, i don't know. Interestingly, the 'Macallister' version, B&Q's own-brand for tools, is £100 and looks identical apart from colour. I think the Lidl one is a generic Chinese model (with slight variations) - it looks suspiciously like the one I just got from Rutland tools, where they're branded it themselves with a sticker. But I think it's pretty good. I actually upgraded the tracks to Festool 1400s as I wasn't happy with A) the fact you need 4 of the original ones to cut an 8 x4 and B) the single-bar joining system does not inspire confidence. Much nicer with the Festool track. Cost me as much as the saw for 2 tracks and the joining bars, mind. I've also got a Freud 40 tooth blade in there and all in all, it works well. I've been cutting nice B/BB birch ply for kitchen cupboard doors, so the cuts have to be perfect at least on one side. The other thing about the Festool track is that the splinter guarding of the rubber strip actually works, because it's thick and high quality. It was useless on the other ones. Worth the upgrades for critical work, I think and still waaay cheaper than a Festool (that's my justification anyway)!

  • @10MinuteWorkshop

    @10MinuteWorkshop

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yes, it's certainly very similar visually to the Rutlands one - couldn't say if they were made in the same factory without seeing them together, and probably not even then, lol! And yes, I agree - the tracks are the thing that let the saw down; a single 1400 rail would be much better, but we seem to be stuck with 2# 700s at the entry level.

    Yes, it’s been ‘on clearance’ ate some B&Q stores as well; hopefully a new model, wouldn’t make sense to discontinue , I wouldn’t have thought 🤷‍♂️ 👍👍

    When the Parkside is not available Rutlands has a clone of it in blue and red the price fluctuates like the Titan but they do, pretty regularly, do a 12 hour deal for power tools which you can sign up to receive by email

    I've had the festool for over 15 years still as accurate as possible. These are all copy cats. I'll stay with the best. Festool is worth the price. You get what you pay for

    Which is exactly what I said in the first Festool vs Cheap Tool video #071. But the truth is that not everyone has the money for that kind of saw, or needs the kind of features they offer, and saws like these provide outstanding value for money for those people.
