My wife bought this set-up for me and it is the first tracksaw I have owned. I hadn't used it and was delighted to find your review o as I did not expect to see it aired. \thanks for the info and now I will get it out of the box and get some dust on it

My daughter bought me one of these and a 20v lidl cordless drill. I wasn't keen on either to be honest and love Makita given a choice. However, I started using them both and have found both tools very good. I hear Lidl do a 'Pro' range which are on a par with Dewalt/Makita specs but are almost half the price. I shall be looking at them.

This looks like a great review for anyone looking for a budget track saw. Personally I have never used one, as I run a high volume industrial wood shop. Sometimes DIY tools surprise me in terms performance and durability.

Excellent review and a big thank you for the supplying of the Lidl saw by louie. It is the generosity of subscribers that helps the site to continue. I have the Titan which is great to me but if I hadn't I might have been tempted by the Parkside. I have a couple of Parkside products and they are very good.

Very timely video and thanks to Louie! I have owned this saw for 2 years and can confidently recommend it, especially with an upgraded blade (Triton TTS60T in my case, which has the more common 2.2mm kerf)… it plays very well within the Festool ecosystem (for the better and more comprehensive add-ons) and fits within a Sys-4 systainer, with room to spare. One thing not mentioned in the review is that it lacks a riving knife, which some may view as a big drawback when cutting solid wood I look forward to the Triton rail deal review, although the fact that the 'unique' profile implies that some Festool (stops, etc.) and third party accessories (UJK clips, etc.) won't work with it

I quite like the Parkside stuff, I've had several tools for a few years, I'm not a joiner or a tradesman but I do use them regularly and they are still working fine. Wouldn't hesitate to buy a saw like this.

A mate of mine runs a motorcycle repair workshop. He needed a drill in a hurry when his had died, grabbed a Parkside one as it 'would do' f but has been thoroughly abusing it, and the single battery it came with, for 5 years (or more). It's still fine!

I’m new to parkside. I’ve found from experience that for the Hainault branch I visit, you need to regularly get the magazine or app and see what will be available. If there is a parkside tool you like, you would need to find out the day it is available (usually Thus or Sun). You would then need to get there early (morning) that day and grab one. They only put a handful out.

Bought one yesterday In lidl (Ireland) and threw on the Triton blade recommended by Peter. Done a first cut to cut off splinter guard and this saw cut a perfect nó chipped cut. I will change the splinter guard though very soon as the stock one is more like plastic than rubber. Overall this is an absolute bargain at the price (89 euro).... Excellent for a diy-er

It looks like the same unit as the Rutlands offering! With a decent blade in they’re very usable 😉

Highly recommend this saw. I bought one when they first came on sale. I used it everyday for 6 months. Unfortunately mine was stolen along with some other power tools. I now have the dewalt tracksaw. The Parkside had a nicer sound to it, the dewalt sounds a bit rough when the motor first starts. The Parkside is much easier on the ears. Very very good value for money. I may even buy another if they come back on sale as was said in the video.

Bought one today at Lidl in the Netherlands for €79,99 (69 GBP). I was considering buying a Wolfcraft track for my Black&Decker circular saw, but stumbled upon your channel. This is a better option I guess. Thanks!

For a diyer these tools are pretty darn good, I’ve had quite a few tools from Lidl’s and even Aldi and they’ve done the job I wanted it for and even on jobs that needed a better tool......this tool is ideal for cutting up ply to size but, a word of caution, make sure you allow for kerf in your measurements.... Nice and informative video, cheers 😉

Kerf is defined as the width of material that is removed by a cutting process.

Thanks for this. As a side issue Aldi got bandsaws in again at £80. Scheppach sorry Workzone (sevice email is Scheppach) HBS20 so expect your old bandsaw videos to be revisited again. Thanks again for these useful videos for us cheapskates that don't have need (or the cash) for £500+ tools.

So......I managed to get one on Thursday and used it today. Having never used a track plunge saw before, I have to say I thought it was brilliant. Thanks again for the review. Made cutting long lengths that little bit easier.

Enjoyed the video and thanks to you and Louie. Good comments on the tracks and what works together. Here in Oz every second tool producer seems to be bringing a tracksaw to market these days and these reviews are coming in very handy.

In Lidl today (Friday 14th) and found two instore (Perth, Scotland) bargains, both of which Peter has reviewed. The bench bandsaw, discounted by over 40 per cent (several of this item on sale). The plunge saw for £34.99; I got the last one. These might be on offer at other Lidl outlets; not necessarily something able to be ascertained online. My thanks to Peter for making clear the useability of these Parkside items.

Lidl often sales a 20v cordless circular saw. Any idea if the cordless model can be used with these tracks?

I have a load of Parkside stuff works just fine as long as you set them up and tweak them properly. Titan tools are also great... I have their cheap table saw and I've been using that for about 3 years now, great bit of kit an absolute bargain.

Used mine for the first time in anger this weekend, all good until I tried my first bevel cut. The saw kicked back and whilst I luckily walked away unharmed the splinter guard was shredded! Does anyone know which is the best replacement? I’m guessing as the rail is makita/ festool comparable their offerings or those that fit them will suit. Tempted to grab the evolution rails and not worry about it but I think having the short rails will be useful for piece cuts on the work bench top like that of the mft.

Good to hear you’re OK. If you’re new to tracksaws then bevel cuts are an area where you really need to take care - rails clamped down, both hands on the saw, sharp blade. And yes, the Makita 3-metre splinter guard - amzn.to/2TdVApS - is the one I recommend, generally. 👍👍

I've been using the Parkside plunge saw for about 4 years now, bought it to trim decking and since then I've used it mainly for floor board repairs, door trimming and wardrobe installs, probably hung 30 internal doors last year and it's been a great tool as long as you remember a couple of things, buy a decent 42 tooth blade, I get about 8 months out of a Freud blade, the festool splinter guards fit fine, I would recommend new ones every 2nd blade change, get the Nilfisk aero dust extractor, and spare guide rails from lidl customer services. Also remember this type of saw will bite back if you just drop the blade into your work surface and mitre cuts deserve even more care than you initially think. Every year I hope this saw will break down so I can spend 600 quid in screwfix on a Mafell saw, and every year I think how could I justify the cost, I couldn't cut any more doors in a day, I couldn't repair any more chipboard floors, cut deck boards etc etc. Thanks to Peters other reviews, I did finally buy a self centering drill bit so now my hinges go on square! Thanks

@@industrialautomation3470 I've since replaced the parkside saw with a Mafell because of the better rail system, better dust extraction and blade removal. If you contact Lidl customer service they'll give you a price for extra rails but they're only 700mm long so cutting a 2400mm board needs planning. If I was keeping the saw I'd look at another make of track. Good luck, I hope this helps

Thanks, Peter, I purchased this on Thursday and opened it today. I was not very happy about the tracks as there was a gap with the splinter guard. I called Lidl and they will raise it with the manf. I used the saw today and it is great. I am glad I watched your video before spending lots on a table saw.

Then presumably the runner strip wasn’t in line with the rail, so was overhanging at the other end. Could you not join the other ends of the rail, and trim the splinter guard back? Might be easier than messing around with the manufacturer 👍👍 Splinterguards are consumables btw - they’re meant to be replaced.

@@10MinuteWorkshop It creates too much sawdust even with the vacuum cleaner attached. I returned the item back to Lidl and got a refund. I will need to install a proper dust removal system. For my hobby work , it might be better to use more hand tools than power tools :(

Thanks for the heads up on the evolution rails!! Just ordered some off the Amazon link as I needed a new 1400 rail for my festool and begrudged spending 79 quid for just the one.

Did you get any feel for its dust protection? Did a similar amount come out on the side as the feestool?

I didn’t test it specifically, but in general it was probably on par or perhaps slightly better than the Titan. Nothing like as good as the Festool - which shouldn’t be a surprise. 🤷‍♂️👍👍

Thanks for the heads-up. I bought one based on your recommendation. I have powered it on to ensure it works. But I haven't used it yet. I fitted the tracks together and pressed a ruler up against them to check the joined track is straight. It is miles off. About 2mm off over 30cm! I checked both tracks with an engineers square and neither is at 90 degrees. I am thinking about cutting both tracks on my mitre saw to make sure that they are 90 degrees. If the track is aluminium that should be fine right? If not I will just buy a better track such as the evolution

Thanks! Yes, I’ve cut loads of aluminium with my standard mitresaw (and tracksaw!) without any problems. For the price of the tracks, it’s no surprise that things aren’t as straight and true as they could be, so I’ give it a try - and if all else fails there’s always the evolution track packages 👍👍

You basically get what you pay for with most tools. I've just purchased the Bosch GKT 55 GCE 160mm 1400w Plunge Saw inc Guide Rails, Connector & Rail Bag in L-Boxx. Its basically a Mafell MT55CC model. It does the job really well and the cuts are perfect.

The usual pattern is for demand to drop off each time they offer something like this. Also demand can vary a lot depending on the location of the store, so if one has run out it's worth trying another.

@@Graham_Langley Nah, I just left for work early and bought one on the way, though I did walk right past it first time, it took another lap of the middle of Lidl to get it. Still, I now have a track saw, hurrah!

The million dollar question is: does the saw blade pivot along the cut line? If you want to make a 45° cut does it line up exactly with the 90° splinter guard or does it cut into the splinter guard? I imagine this depends on the blade kerf as well.

Anyone making a few cuts in board material , this has got to be up there vying for your cash! Thanks to Peter and Louie 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Which is in your opinion the better budget saw, Titan or the Lidle ? Also does the Evolution track work well with both saws ?

Other way around - the Parkside saw won’t fit on Makita-pattern track because of the anti-tipping lip they have, but if you’re OK with joining 2 Evo rails for full sheets, it’s a non-issue. 👍👍

Can't believe how cheap they are and how many brands! I have a Festool at home ts55 and love it. I bought a Shop Fox for work. Sounds like an angle grinder 😂 but not as smooth Hahahahahaha WOT! 🇬🇧💪🏻🇨🇦

I want to upgrade the guiderail and I'm that regard, do you have any additional suggestion aside from the evolution one? Thanks! The Parkside fits in the standard Festool-pattern rail, so any rail of that type will work. I’d say an upgrade is to a longer rail though, and the Titan is only available as 2x700mm unless I’m mistaken. The Evo rails are the best price atm, either direction a single 1400 rail, for the pair with bah and clamps. 👍

I'm going for the erbuaer. What rails do u think would any good as I would like to cut full length mdf .

I just had those evolution tracks delivered today as i thought they were a bargain. Unfortunately if i set up my makita 36v on my track and take out the slop it is far too tight on the evolution tracks and my track square isn’t compatible because of the t slots both being underneath. Shame I didn’t spot that before ordering :(

Yeah, I don't know why they muck around so much with the guiderail pattern - none of them are identical, and the patent on the Festool pattern is long gone, but almost nobody even tries to make them the same - Makita and Titan are the closest, though they have the anti-tip lip, of course... 🤷‍♂️

Fantastic video, came in search for a review about the Lidl Tracksaw but will be staying for the quality and knowledge you provide! Fantastic channel! One question, if I were to upgrade the standard 24T saw to a 48T saw, would for instance a Trend CSB/pt16548 be any good?

The result looks very clean for a set costing less than 100 euro in total, it's hard to beat for a hobby builder like myself. I should also thank you for making the tracksaw tutorial series, extremely helpful in getting started!

Thank you.👍 If I may ask a question about Festool rails and the plastic splinter strip - I have damaged mine - can you just peel it off, reposition it (will it restick?) and then run a trimming cut - or do I need to buy a replacement?

The rubber strip on my Scheppach was lifting even from new (shitty double sided tape) so I removed it & stuck it back on with a fine smear of silicone, don't see why you couldnt do that ? 😎👍☘

Just a quick N.B. the Workzone/Sheppach also has the anti-tip lip on its guiderail too - I just noticed. I can also say that it seems to be quite an acceptible 'entry-level' saw but for two points; 1) The guide rail join can be a little uneven and cause a lip that needs looking at. & 2) It would certainly benefit from a quality blade. (Pennies are being squirreled, as I speak) {Cheers to Louie, too, its feels like a wonderful community that we share}

Thanks for the vid, this is bar the colour the exact same as the Rutland's saw but a good deal cheaper. Thanks for clearing up which rails fit it. The stock blade was garbage and my handle gets quite warm strangely

Could someone please help and tell me which way do you unscrew blade bolt? Sounds stupid but I through away instructions and in need to change a blade, Tried anticlockwise and manage to ruin the bolt, so I'm not sure if bolt got stack or I'm trying wrong way. Buy the way this review is really usefu and obviously made my buying this saw👍👍👍👍

Hi Peter, Thank you for your videos, always useful and informative. In this video you mention the Parkside and Titan being on par with the Parkside better in some ways - I'd appreciate it you could elaborate on this. As someone who has been enticed by your tracksaw workshop method but only doing this as a hobby these entry level saws are what I am considering. I would note that the Parkside appears to be identical to the own-brand tracksaw that Rutlands sell for a similar price to the Titan so it is available year-round albeit at a premium to the temporary Parkside offer. The Titan appears to have the edge with rail compatibility and the anti-tip feature but would be interested to hear what pros you put in the Parkside column to help people like myself make an informed decision based on the experience and opinions of a pro.

On paper the saws are very similar, so the Parkside is the clear winner at ~£65 vs £110. But the Titan is down to £90 currently, and often available for less on special. And it’s available all year round of course, not just on special. But there are other things to consider - the Titan rails are better, but the saw has the anti-kickback thing which drove me nuts until I removed it. Then again, if you intend to extend or replace the rails, then that takes them out of the equation. Lots more to consider if course, it at the end of the day I’d have killed to have either one at this kind of price when I was starting out. 👍👍

You where lucky, on mine the rails where not compatible with a festool saw !!! I have the parkside and the festool. Had the festool first and actually bought the parkside mostly for the rails. But the one i got have the center guiding track of the rail about 1mm larger than the festool !!! The festool saw could not be used on it out of the box. I managed to sneak some of the material on the non guiding side (oposit to the cut) by carefully grinding it with a flat file with regular motion so that i don't ruin the parallel. So it is now usable but i still have to adjust the pressing parts on the saw when jumping from a rail to another. That is pretty annoying when you try to get job done fast jumping from riping (long rail) to cross cutting (short rail). So i'm now considering buying a 80cm genuin festool rail, yes that one that cost about the same price as the whole parkside package :( So it seems like you didn't had that problem but maybe people should be careful when buying it for the rail. Just my 2cts...

And today I found out that Festool isn’t called Festo!! Even though I’ve own over a dozen different ones all the time. Then I realized why. Most of the Sweds don’t pronounce the whole name!!!

I have noticed parkside cutting corners in their new tools. The only tracksaw I have used was a festool and I hated it. I have an evolution circular saw with a blade that warps when hot.

Does anyone know if Parkside make a 20volt cordless version of this tracksaw

Thank you for the timely video! I own the Makita 110v and have just purchased the cordless version from FFX with double charger and 2 batteries. Loved the saw -still do, but hate the cord and hefty tranny! Anyway, I am after a shorter track to cut worktops and other 'wee bits', and thought that the Lidl saw, for £65 would be a spare saw and blade - pretty much for free - along with the two shorter tracks. So glad I watched your video, highlighting the incompatibility with the Makita track. Presumably, though, the Makita would fit on the Parkside track, in which case, I'd still be after one to do the short stuff. An 800mm track would be better, but if they are really only a tenner, well, it's would be an absolute bargain!

@@craigwatton8941 Thanks Craig, I'm currently using one of my Maktracks with the 1mm kerf 36v, and the other with the 2mm corded saw. I will need to cut full length sheets too, so either a shorter track or, as you suggest, the Evolution.

Timely video, I was just about to shell out for a Makita track to upgrade my Lidl saw. Looks like I’ll be going down the Evolution route, as it looks like the Festool rail won’t be worth the extra money, given it’ll be a Lidl saw riding the rail. Speaking of the rail, I’ve found that the sacrificial strip has come away from the Lidl rail after about a year. Still for £65 the saw is an absolute bargoon. However, anyone thinking of buying the saw should budget at least a set of rail clamps, even if you’re happy with the rail.

I know parkside and evolution saws are compatible with each others track from watching this video.. but would you be able to fit both brands of track together?? If anyone know it would be extremely helpful.

You can, but as mentioned in the video the profile of the Parkside tracks is a little odd so you get the lip protruding. The Evolution tracks are much closer to the standard Festool-pattern than the Parkside. FWIW 👍👍

Another great vid Peter. Looks like they use the same tracks as Ozito in Australia. Any chance you can get your hands on a Bosch PKS 66 AF to review? I'm curious about the plastic rails. Maybe Bosch can loan you one.

The one I had last year went back due to the edge-strips being curled up and not in contact with the work. Did you notice this at all? There look to be some cosmetic changes to the new version so interested to see if it performs the same. And those Evolution rails look like a steal, even if the clamps do look a bit iffy. Two rails, joining bars, clamps and bag for £69 delivered at the moment! Would you recommend?

The evolution rails look excellent; I have the smaller set (2x700) that came with a saw Evo have asked me to take a look at, and I’m very impressed. 👍👍 And Yes, there is a slight curl to the splinter-guard, but it kept good contact and can easily be replaced if necessary.

Thanks for another informative video Peter. As a hobbyist DIY’er it’s refreshing to get reviews of tools that don’t cost an arm and a leg. Do you think for use outside this saw would be ok without any dust extraction? Also any recommendations for blades to improve it?

In Canada the Makita is the cheapest you can get, it’s about $500Can which is over &200, a &60 saw would be great!

Hi Peter, thanks for these videos, I have enjoyed watching. I recently bought the Ryobi equivalent of the lidl parkside saw. It the exact same machine in every way just a different colour. My question is about kick back and how to avoid it. On one of my first cuts I got terrible kick back crosscutting a peice of oak. Is this normal, hopefully not because I can't afford to by a new pair of underwear everytime I use it

Hi Rhett. I’m sorry but I’m not aware of any Ryobi plunge saw / tracksaw; I did a quick check and there isn’t one listed on the Ryobi website?? Either way kickback on a plunge saw is very specific - it’s when you plunge into the workpiece and the blade catches, instead of cuts, and pushes the saw out of the material. This is usually on rip cuts, very unusual to have this on a crosscut. I go into the causes and solutions in detail in the tracksaw workshop series - playlist here, bit.ly/TracksawWorkshop - but in short, a good sharp blade, good technique, and steady plunge into stable, dry material goes a long way to mitigate it. There are accessories like rail stops, that can also help, if you’re making a cut that might induce kickback. That’s the bare bones of it anyway, as I say, the tracksaw workshop has a lot more detail, might be worth a watch? 👍👍

Guys, if you want to extend this tracksaw then lidl can supply more rails for you. You get the same 1400mm track, taking it to 2800mm, which is great for cutting large sheets down easily. It is not lidl that supp,y them but a German company. Check the instructions for maybe a supplier name or ring the technical helpline for a email address or telephone number. I just emailed them and done a bank transfer to the company...cannot fault them. The actual tracks fit the dewalt range too. Here is the price I paid last year for supply from Germany, which took about 3 days to get to my home in the north east of England.....a whopping €19 euros. The dewalt tracksaw rails are around £50 for one length. Yes as Peter said it is a entry level model, but if you change the blade to a 48 tooth you get a decent finish on whatever you cutting. Recently, I used mine to trim down oak doors and except from a couple of scorch marks, which I sanded out then this thing will do any DIY around your home....well impressed with mine

@@colinlvrp lol...well done and get a decent blade for it. A watch out with the guide rails are the grub screws in the base they easily strip and fall out if you are not careful. Otherwise its works fine. Best make or buy a couple of clamps for the rail too. Its not the best of holding down fast unlike the most expensive guides from festool etc.

Got one today. Last one in the shop and a guy tried to buy it off me as I queued lol. A mere hobbyist so should be good enough for me. One question; would the cut be good enough to joint a board for glueing up?

Great saw for the money. As for jointing boards for a glue-up, the stock blade may be OK for a rip cut, but for anything else I’d fit a 48t blade 👍👍 Video out about that on Tuesday.

Thanks! I suppose technically you could do the blade swap, but they’re different sizes (160 vs 165) so I wouldn’t recommend it. There’s lots of other blades available though. 👍👍

Just dived out to kick and grabbed one off the back of this as been using an old boys circular saw for a while. Think I'll grab a new blade before trimming the guides so hopefully I can have it not cut so deep but also to have a higher tooth count blade.

Most do - it’s the closest we have to a ‘standard’ rail 👍👍

I feel there is too much focus on track compatibility, Peter. I understand for someone like yourself, with expensive kit like the Festool, the idea of buying a budget tool and using its track would be of interest but to most purchasing I doubt they would care. Again, I believe the Titan, Aldi Workzone & Lidl Parkside are made by the same parent company (Positec). Apart from the blade differences etc I'd reckon everything else is down to quality control and pot luck in which one you get in the store. My Aldi one works perfectly but the Parkside seems better value for money. Anyone into DIY should invest in a track saw. They really do make a difference in accuracy of cut and saving time.

Fair enough, but it would be remiss of me not to mention the inconsistencies in e.g. the Aldi saw; I covered this in more detail in the 'Cheap vs Cheapest' video (#285) but the short version is that a length of additional track is the next purchase most people make, and it would be disappointing to find out that the saw you bought isn't 100% compatible with the defacto standard. I'm happy you're happy with your Aldi saw (made by Scheppach, btw) but in my experience it needed a lot more work to get cutting well vs eg the Titan. 👍

Warning: the saw blade screw was too tight from the factory. Impossible to replace the blade. The hex bolt is broken now. Even though I used the right tools to remove it. The mm settings are also inaccurate. The problem with parkside. Looks nice at the start but frustrations come fast when you actually use it. If you buy this loosen and refit all the screws you expect to ever remove. Might want to put some grease to be sure. Oh and keep the receipt...

I think we should call you Peter (Tracksaw) Millard. Good video I have the Titan on your recommendation and it’s fine for what I do 😀👍

Peter, thanks for all the work you put into your videos! Just picked up a PTS 1200 C2 (a slightly newer version you looked at). Well, quality control as you mentioned: First thing I noticed is the anti-slip strips are not the same thickness. about 1/10mm difference in thickness. On one track the strip in the center looks thicker than the one on the other side. So even with the saw on the track the whole track and saw can tilt a bit to the saw side. The other track has this reversed: the neoprene (?) strip is thicker on the side than in the center, that rail doesn't tip. Maybe I will try to change those strips, or get new one. And maybe new splinter guard as well, seems to have some curvature, and doesn't press against the wood... I assume you shouldn't press down on the saw like crazy, right?

Yes, but as noted, you’ll struggle with some of the accessories because of the funny channel. But for simple sawing, yes, absolutely. 👍👍

Buy the evolution track and chop it in half

Following this Video I rushed out and bought this saw and I am thrilled with it. It’s a cracking saw for the money and has been invaluable in my house renovations. The only downside is that the rails seem to ‘wander’ when making cuts, especially long cuts. Is it worth upgrading the non slip stuff on the back or would I be better off getting different rails eg Evolution or even festool?

Good to hear you getting along OK with it. Are you clamping the rails or just relying on the grippy strips underneath? A pair of cheap clamps might be a good investment, generally (Makita and Festool screw clamps are pretty similar in price) but yes, you could upgrade the grippy strip, or switch rails. I’d try a pair of clamps first tbh. 👍👍

@@10MinuteWorkshop Peter, thanks for your reply. I'm using it freehand at the moment but will look at getting a pair of clamps. The splinter guard is also not true. For some reason its not a straight line but the saw cuts true. I think that may be user error on my part when setting it up! This is why I am weighing up the cost of replacing grippy stuff, and splinter guard with a set of new rails. Did you ever get round to reviewing/looking at the evolution rails?

That's odd about the splinter guard; if you warm it up a little you can peel it off, move it out by a couple of mm and re-cut it - that trick works a few times before you have to replace it completely. And no, I haven't done anything video-wise with the Evo rails yes, but they're the best option for a pair of 1400 rails, right now. 👍

Quick question about Makita rail compatibility: what about taking off a bit from the base of the Parkside saw? Would that be feasible?
