James cheek does absolutely amazing with hua cheng . Season 2 has killed me especially ep6. I'm still waiting for vol 6&7 to come in but I'm so excited to finish reading. I found TGCF around 2 years ago when the 2nd physical novel came out. I found it through ColeyDoesThings, then saw it at a book store. I was like "oh yeah, I've heard this is good, let me grab it." AND THEN I WAS HOOKED!! I've been buying and reading the physical copies ever since and the last book just got released. A wonderful, wonderful journey finally comes to an end... at least for the books. But now there's a donghua and a manhua and a live action all coming out! I love seeing every single version of the same story, and I'm so glad you found it too!! :)

I think one of the most fascinating things about Hualian's relationship, in my understanding, is when Xie Lian caught Hua Cheng from falling their fortunes were switched. Xie Lian was lucky and beloved and just the best thing ever and Hua Cheng was, let's say, in a really bad place. And when they meet again their places are completely reversed. And I feel like, maybe even if it's my own head canon, but part of Hua Cheng's devotion is I owe you everything. Like, anything he has , money, palaces, power, life, he feels like Xie Lian is the reason for it and so he's willing to give anything he has to Xie Lian because to him it's because of Xie Lian that he has it to begin with. And I think he's opposite to Jun Wu (obviously, what a crazy prick) in that he's in awe of the fact that Xie Lian can come out the otherside of all that horrible shit basically a good person, that really bad wobble in becoming the white clothed calamity not withstanding. Because when Hua Cheng jumped off the wall he wasn't just trying to kill himself, he was trying to curse the whole country for how badly he'd been treated and even in the present storyline he only likes Xie Lian, everyone else he has no time for. But Xie Lian still cares about people and the world and Hua Cheng's just like how? and you're really amazing :)

Heeey I found it on Netflix on a total whim too! I figured it sounded interesting, BUT THEN it just overtook everything. Then I found out there were books and it was all over for me. It's been a couple months and I'm still riding that wave of obsession. 🥰 It has NO right being this good.

I started tgcf like a month ago and im OBSESSED with it. I have a whole tiktok collection of them and a Pinterest board of them. My math papers FULL of tiny doodles of them, My phone is themed abt them and theres still more. TGCF is just so awesome😭❤

SAAAAAAME tgcf has become my entire personality now. My motivation. My inspiration. I almost gave up on being an artist/writer - and then mxtx said fukk that lookie here. And now my life goal is literally to write something that makes me feel even a tenth of what tgcf made me feel. GOSH the way i can relate to your reaction!! i myself found out about tgcf from a friend that was obsessed with them herself haha, but stupid me decided to POSTPONE READING IT .... and so fast forward a couple of months, i picked up and binge read mdzs(my first ever danmei)- absolutely LOVED IT and felt compelled to read the author's other works. thus, my obsession with tgcf began .... and never ended 😭 i had no freaking idea what i would get myself into when i first saw the first season of the donghua, then read the entire series from some dubious translation found some place even more dubious, but god damn was it the best choice i ever made in my entire life.

I found Mdzs randomly on one of the worst days of my life about 2 years ago, so I read the novel, and then later learned about Tgcf and Svsss. Mdzs and Tgcf have become my comfort series now since they helped me through many days. Currently planning on cosplaying Wei Ying and San Lang. I loved how you explained everything honestly

it's so funny how our experiences reading tgcf were so different XD i actually only became obsessed with hualian on the last book (yes, i am as feral for them as you are!! my parents!!!) but while i was reading i just loved all the characters and the plots and the backstories!

I learned of SVSSS first, but after seeing clips on youtube I wasnt interested in the 3D. Then I stumbled on a react video of tgcf and was like, oh neat, one of MXTX's books and it's 2D? Watched a few mins of the youtube vid, then watched the whole Season 1 (S2 wasnt out yet).

I don’t know if you’ll ever read this. But I feel so happy to find new danmei fans and their reactions to danmeis. I’ve been a danmei fan since 2018; randomly I was scrolling through social media and found a Binghe x Shen Qingqiu art (Characters from the danmei SVSSS) and from there on.. since December 2018, my danmei journey began and it’s still not over. I relate so much to everything you're saying!! TGCF (and by extension the other two series) is my latest and honestly most powerful obsession!! 🤩My sister introduced to be to the cartoon sometime after she introduced me to Sasaki and Miyano. She informed me it was a Chinese BL and I was excited to see what the romance would be like... I was absolutely hooked! All the precious fluffy moments between HuaLian, the cool moments when there was fighting (romantic dance-like fighting in the Sinner's Pit anyone? 🥰) I was utterly lost. I watched the series three times (English dub, Chinese dub, someones reaction) and just devoured fanfiction after fanfiction of HuaLian goodness! Some included crossovers with Grandmaster, with my favorite being that one way or another they become the adoptive fathers to Wei Ying 😊! I've even started an MXTX corner in my room!! Love Season 2 so far, and as for the books, I've actually only read the first two volumes (though I have the entire set along with the other series). I finished Scum Villain a while back, loved it there were so many comedic moments, and I am working on Grandmaster. Love James Cheek as Hua Cheng!! 😍😍
