  I had a very similar path to MXTX. Scrolling Netflix and thinking it would be funny. But hands down, the funniest thing in the whole series is that Rain Master NEVER wins the lantern contest because she wants her followers to prioritize their own food over her clout. 😅

  I just read Dark Heir and I can’t stand with this ending 😭 I know the feeling Will and James deserve to be happy, I think the collar no just hold Anharion's memories, it upgraded James magic at the level of his past self had And we still don’t know what really happened thousand years ago, in Will’s memories, we saw the before and after everything screwed up, the Lady and the Sun King are very suspicious to me. I don’t trust them, they might distort the truth to win this war I would like to know what else did Marcus know about all this on his journal, it has more answers Sorry, I had to get all my feelings out with this book xD

  Yes, SVSSS is a must if you like MXTX because that's the eldest child lol I think why SVSSS is so loved by the fandom despite the flaws is because it call out the problematic aspect of Chinese Stallion novel loved by men. The supposed to be romantic scenes in Stallion novel are turned into problematic scenes in SVSSS because if you try to see it in reality's lens where powerful masculine man get all the ladies and a forced intimate scene in do or die situation, it is not romantic at all. SVSSS is like Luo Binghe and Shen Yuan's journey of embracing their emotional side as a man which is facing their feelings and let go of their toxic masculinity. If you want a danmei couple with good communication, I highly recommend Stars of Chaos by Priest.

  OMG ALGORITHM FINALLY!! i havent even finished the vid (multi tasking lol) yet but im jus so glad someones covering svss!! the relationship is so interesting and theres sm to explore ahh !! okii so ye, svss definitely leans to comedy more than mxtx's future work. and cuz of that initial premise, the logistics of the actual relationship may not have been as ironed out in-comparison to her future work. yet i have to say, svss is still my fav of the three novels. i suppose thats got sumn to do with my own sort of eccentric tastes haha. i can actually find misunderstanding tropes quite enjoyable if they are done well. while it's been awhile since ive read the series in its entirety, from what i remember, i can at least see why shen yuan would be hesitant to be rlly straightforward considering he comes into this knowing even the canon softie that was og luo binghe still ultimately became some vengeful demon lord tyrant-an icebreaker w the whole abyss things a bit intimidating. Apart from that, i kinda just love romances where the conflicts arent necessarily external factors. like i love when the characters themselves are the problem, cuz then i have a lot to chew on when it comes to their relationship and its development. also btw have u read 2ha? it's def a lot darker (like rlly read thru the warnings), but i almost consider it as like. reverse svss in a way lol, it's one of my favorite novels (but knowing now the parts that u disliked abt svss, maybe not the best rec haha. the plot, for a long time, is a huge lifelong misunderstanding that ultimately culminated into a tragedy at one point. but it's def one that makes sense when looking at the grand scheme of their characters, it def was NOT necessarily sumn they could just "talk out" yk)

  So I've found it randomly on some dubious page were I watch anime (sadly polish netflix doesn't have tgcf 😢) and I loved it so I decided to watch something similar and I came across mdzs and I liked it even more because I could feel in it much more that there was supposed to be romance. At 2nd sezon I found out in the coments that there is a novel and it has romance and even spice so I dropped the series , same as you read it on wattpad and became obsessed. After that I couldn't find tgcf anywhere. Finaly I found the translation, started reading it and then when i was in the middle of it it was dalated. Couple months later I became desperate, found a page to buy physical version, I didn't mind enymore that it was expensive and in my second language and i bought 6 volumes (at that time it was all). Now that I finished it I'm obsessed. It has the best description of love I've ever encounter on, the dialogues, quotes and acts, i'm speachles. Now I don't know if I ever find love 'cause my standarts ar so high thanks to Hua Chang. Also Xie Lian backstory is so tragic and heartbraking and even after all that he's been through he still is so kind. I think we all should try to be like him. So that's how I've fallen into the rabbit hole called danmei and the only thing that I regret is lack of money.

  tysm! I finished the TGCF novel and I loved it so much i was considering reading another of her books. Ive wtached the untamed (lmao i didnt know it had a donghua), and i loved it dispite its flaws and i was definetly stuck between reading MDZS or SVSSS. It would be great to get an opionon on which one I should read if you are willing to give one🙇‍♀

  As a Mandarin speaker who has lived in the U.S. for many years, I randomly came across some MXTX-related reviews from non-Chinese people on KZread and ended up watching a lot of related videos. I've seen all three of your review videos, and this is my first time commenting. Regarding the main story where Shen Yuan never told Luo Binghe his true identity (from another world), I find your perspective really interesting! Don't get me wrong, some Chinese people are frustrated by this too, but I think it's a really small group compared to the whole reader base. The reason might be that "the main character transmigrating from the real world into a book/game/ancient times, etc." is a super common trope in Chinese web novels. In these stories, the protagonist often deals with life-threatening challenges, so whether they reveal their true identity isn't seen as crucial. After years of development in this genre, it feels like the lack of revealing the protagonist's true identity has become a set convention. People are so used to characters transmigrating into books/ancient times without their identities being known that they don’t even question it anymore. I agree that a partner should know this kind of truth, especially given Luo Binghe's personality (how could you bear to keep it from him?). But as you mentioned, SVSSS is MXTX's first work, and I see it as an early piece where her style hadn't matured yet. This work has its shortcomings, but you can also see its influence on her later works, like her sense of humor. She wrote this book before she graduated from college, so I personally don't expect too much from it, haha. I'm glad you overall still enjoyed each of her works. I also saw your review of MDZS before, and it was really interesting. I really enjoy seeing your spot-on descriptions of what makes each ship attractive.

  MDZS was my first danmei and i loved it so much that it led me down the massive rabbit hole of reading basically everything seven seas has put out lol. Currently SVSSS is probably my favourite out of the three MXTX works purely because its the most chaotic, but in terms of a great romance nobody beats WangXian!

  i gotta say, Wei Wuxian is my favorite main character of all time. he’s so charismatic, mischievous but with a heart in a good place. i’m incredibly charmed by him. so of course, although i love TGCF with all of my heart, wangxian is my beloved MXTX couple. their dynamic is so fun, they’re so good together, i just love them dearly. now, i recommend you to complete the MXTX trio and read SVSSS! it’s the first novel that MXTX ever wrote so the quality isn’t on the same level as the other two but it’s still a lot of fun, the main character is hilarious and the humor is on point. the romance dynamic is also really different than the ones in the other books so it might be interesting to explore! edit: oh, never mind! i didn’t see the ending of the video when you said that you’ve read all of MXTX’s books 😭 sorry!

  Absolutely, I LOVE Xie Lian and Wei Wuxian as protagonists. Shen Qingqiu definitely didn’t charm me as much them so I wasn’t as big a fan of SVSSS as the other two but now I have to do a video about it to complete the trio!

  I love hearing your reviews to this to be honest. It's always nice to hear other fans opinions to my favourite novel. But I just want to add something to this on my end. *** Wei Ying's feelings and his pov **** To shed some light, which I felt like theres a need to, for those who might not really understand Wei Ying's pov. Be warned, long post ahead, but I will appreciate immensely if you take the time to read this ‼️SPOILERS FROM NOVEL ‼️ How Wei Ying felt for Lan Zhan is actually realistic, and if you have read the novel, it's explained why he felt that way... First of all, Wei Ying puts Lan Zhan high up there like he's the epitome of a perfect person. He also have his own insecurities, and that's normal, since he's only human. Some people do take slower to realize their feelings and the other party feelings and THAT'S normal especially when it comes to same sex relationship, since it's not a norm in the society eyes. And for Wei Ying, he doesn't see someone like Lan Zhan would be interested in him in that way is because (1) it isn't because Lan Zhan is doing a crappy job at it, but it's because Wei Ying doesn't think Lan Zhan being as proper as he always is, righteous as he always has been, would be interested in him that way since its a 'same sex' relationship. And 2) he most probably didnt think highly of himself if he felt that way because he probably thought that someone like him who's been slandered by other people, who cultivates the demonic path, why would someone perfect like Lan Zhan be interested in him, etc. I'm not saying that Wei Ying doesn't deserve to be love, because he does, but you need to take these into consideration as well. This is not something to laugh at him or ridicule him about because it is something realistic that can happen to anyone too... Even for hetero relationship/love, they have their insecurities, so can you not imagine how hard it is for same sex love? If anything, for them, they have more worry to think about. Honestly calling someone dense or stupid for *not realising* is unfair, because it's like when you put that label on him, you can't understand that character(in this case, Wei Ying's) feelings or insecurities... Wei Ying clearly expressed his fear in the novel, so I dont know how anyone can miss that. He's not afraid of loving Lan Zhan, he loves him, but what he's afraid of is if he confess to Lan Zhan, he will receive an answer he doesn't want to hear(a rejection), and then they cant return to being friends since they will just be awkward around each other, IF it is a rejection... In the novel, Wei Ying said and touched on Lan Zhan's feelings, even before he realised, he noticed already that Lan Zhan is treating him different(in a good way) when compared to the others, BUT it did also touched on his insecurities where he said (inner monologue) that he couldn't dare to think its something more, because he really cherish what they currently had. Why else do you think Wei Ying got Lan Zhan drunk to affirm if he was right or not(I.e. if Lan Zhan likes him or not? In its own way, that is courage), that's not dense... In the novel, Wei Ying already expressed why he felt that way, so it's understandable. Adding along to when Wei Ying was about to confess to Lan Zhan after they partly did it, Lan Zhan pushed him away, so anyone can get the wrong idea that the other party (Lan Zhan) didn't feel that way (romantically) for him, which is what Wei Ying was afraid of. For Wei Ying's case, what I'm trying to say is, if you were Wei Ying and was about to confess to the person you love (Lan Zhan), and then have the person you love pushed you away after that intimate moment, ofcourse you will be under the impression that he don't love you the same way as you do on him (romantically). So in my eyes, with that all said, Wei Ying isn't dense, or stupid for not knowing Lan Zhan's feelings. It's actually realistic and understandable. If Lan Zhan didn't push him away, Wei Ying would have already confessed before finding out from Lan Xichen, but then we wouldn't have gotten our touching confession that we had. I personally don't mind how it played out in canon because it gave me the touching confession that I loved (because of all those angst).... I mean, it's not hard to understand his feelings especially when the novel already touched on it why he felt that way becase he's just too afraid to confess to Lan Zhan and then having to face the possibility of Lan Zhan rejection and then them losing what they currently have I.e. can't be friends again etc. Wei Ying being too afraid to confess to Lan Zhan upfront about his own feelings is the same as how Lan Zhan is too, they both are afraid of what the other person would feel about them and they are content to keep their relationship as it is. So to end this whole topic and what I'm trying to say, I will never label Wei Ying is dense or stupid for not realising because I can understand why he felt that way for all said, it's normal and can happen to anyone.

  This is why for me, among the MXTX novels, Mo Dao Zu Shi (Grandmaster of Demonic cultivation) is my no.1 favourite (and always will be) because I am so emotionally invested with the world setting and the characters back story, not just Wangxian. Although I really love Wangxian love story as well, I am in love with the characters, the plot and the romance as the overall. I also love Wei Ying and Jin Ling relationship on my end as well and Wei Ying relationship with the juniors and how he's seen to be teaching them during the Yi City arc is my favourite since I love seeing Wei Ying as a teacher teaching the juniors. In the end, among the three stories I am the most captivated with MDZS and it's ending. Even when I also love TGCF and SVSS as well, but something about MDZS just hits differently to a deeper level for me

  I think one of the most fascinating things about Hualian's relationship, in my understanding, is when Xie Lian caught Hua Cheng from falling their fortunes were switched. Xie Lian was lucky and beloved and just the best thing ever and Hua Cheng was, let's say, in a really bad place. And when they meet again their places are completely reversed. And I feel like, maybe even if it's my own head canon, but part of Hua Cheng's devotion is I owe you everything. Like, anything he has , money, palaces, power, life, he feels like Xie Lian is the reason for it and so he's willing to give anything he has to Xie Lian because to him it's because of Xie Lian that he has it to begin with. And I think he's opposite to Jun Wu (obviously, what a crazy prick) in that he's in awe of the fact that Xie Lian can come out the otherside of all that horrible shit basically a good person, that really bad wobble in becoming the white clothed calamity not withstanding. Because when Hua Cheng jumped off the wall he wasn't just trying to kill himself, he was trying to curse the whole country for how badly he'd been treated and even in the present storyline he only likes Xie Lian, everyone else he has no time for. But Xie Lian still cares about people and the world and Hua Cheng's just like how? and you're really amazing :)

  I started with MDZS Donghua, then listened to the audio drama and finally the book. I think Donghua showcased how powerful WWX is and the romance is better illustrated than the live action. Strongly recommend you to watch the Donghua! Love to hear what’s your opinions on the Donghua! The audio drama is brilliant! Because the voice actors in the audio drama did such a great job, they were later invited to do the voice acting for the Untamed (WWX & LWJ). There is literally no other person can do it better than those two VA. (Fun fact: VA for WWX is doing voice acting for the Wind Master in TGCF; VA for Lan Sizhui in the MDZS Donghua is voice acting for Huacheng in the TGCF’s audio drama.)

  Yeah the multiple names thing takes a lot of getting used to. They have a character guide in the back of the book that you can reference if you get lost but it does get easier to remember as you go
