Rory, I think the idea of getting wrecked or abandoned vehicles out of the lands is a great idea. Plus, the scrap value can help make some money. Back in the late 1990s my brother in law and I organized an off road clean up day around the Dayton/Carson City Nevada area. Sort of an off road rally trails clean up event. We organized it with the local landfill and had a great turn out. I live in Alaska now and there is a local 4x4 club here that does a couple of public use area clean ups every spring. We haul out a lot of abandoned vehicles which were left behind and usually burned out (many stolen, some people just take out and leave because they don't want to pay fees for disposing of them properly. So, long story short (I know, to late). Do it.

Great idea. Out here in the Carson Valley in western Nevada the Pine Nut Mountains Trail Association and the Sierra Stompers have worked together to haul dozens of abandoned vehicles (RVs, boats, trailers, autos, snowmobiles, quads) out of the Pine Nut Mountains. We wouldn't be able to do it without the lifting capabilities of our rock crawling friends. We have a salvage yard that takes care of the formal paperwork for anything we deliver, and the BLM is just happy to see the crap gone. Back in my home county of Tuolumne folks have organized to clean up illegal dump sites that plague them.
