Scouting the Timber, Cruising Buck Strategies | The Hunting Public

The guys head to a piece of public land where they encountered a big buck crossing the trails of does as they headed back to bed. They explain their strategy going into that hunt and also scout for other setups near different bedding areas. They also explain how deer bed in hilly terrain and how to setup close to these areas.

Appreciate the details and really breaking down the setup and strategy behind them. Very helpful and something a lot of hunting videos/channels lack. Showing a labeled satellite image really puts things into perspective. Awesome video and on public land which is the best part about what you guys do.

Man this is good advice! I’ve been hunting public for the first time this year. Been on private in a tree stand the last 3, shot at (missed) 2 deers on private. But since the season started I’ve been out about 5 times cutting my teeth on doing spit and stalks. I’m learning what to do and not to do quickly, but this advice should help me a lot. I have A LOT of waypoints set on my onx app 😂

Awesome video! It's nice to get a visual on what you're looking for while scouting. The aerials help as well! I'll be looking for some of this stuff Monday and Tuesday.

Awesome video guys! Love the overhead with the graphics. There are not that many resources that really do a good job of showing how deer are moving. Thank you and looking forward to more content this year!

Hmmmm... It would seem that "encounter" is the new hunting buzz word.. If I had 50 cents for every video/TV that over uses it, I would not be hunting public land... Great info for sure. Excellent video. Subbed

Wow I have that exact topo on my hunting property. I don’t have the guts to hunt it that aggressively. I try to pick at the edges. I may have to try a more aggressive approach this year.

Do deer typically use the same bedding areas year after year?

Great video. Always enjoy learning new things with your videos! My question is entry to the stand locations. With that north wind, what route would you take to make sure the deer doesn’t catch any of your scent?

This is more of an editing question. Are y’all using key frames to make the arrows move?

So you would only hunt it when the does are feeding? North wind would be blowing right to there bedding.

okphillips13 we hunt it in the morning with wind blowing from the feeding area as deer work back from food to bed. Some may get downwind after they pass the stand but it sets up well overall.

Did anyone notice the deer running in the background over Zack's left shoulder at about the 30 second mark?

Be cool to see a video. New place no scouting just show what you would do not knowing anything about the land. A lot of us have new spots but not the time or resources to get a weeks of scouting it. Just day of hunt using anything we can to get a deer.
