Thank you for sharing this! Good thing I googled "Scotty Line Retriever Installation" or else I would have been cutting wire and pissed off about having to "re-tie" and crimp

I’m sure you get this a lot, but I want to thank you for making this video! Perfectly done, and worked perfectly for installing my weight retriever without cutting the cable…I literally had the cutters in my hand and decided to take a look on KZread…much appreciated!

*We tried this out finally yesterday and it worked awesome! **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s we put it on our 16 foot aluminum boat and trolled with it. We didn’t catch anything but it was still fun and worked awesome! Can’t wait to use this baby again and hopefully reel in a big ole fish! Very easy to install and set up.*

Worked great. Was thinking of trying with just dish soap until I saw your video. Hot water was the missing link.

We dont they just make these to open and clip around your line. Thanks for the PSA i have had mine sitting in the box i was to lazy to cut the line.

Actually I don't think I do, sorry. The closest I have is a short clip when talking about down riggers in this video here on a second channel I post fishing stuff to : kzread.info/dash/bejne/aWZ_paR-l67gfLg.html about the 2 minute mark. I kind of edited out the middle, but maybe it will give an idea of how it works.

Windex window cleaner would probably work as well. I know it will help get a ring off of one's finger when it is too small and it won't just pull off. You can also use the dental floss trick for ring removal as well.

What does that yellow ring do? How does it retrieve the weight? Doesn't the cable do that??

The ring encircles the weight cable, the ring has a small rope attached to it, you pull on the rope, which pulls the cable to the boat so you do not have to lean overboard to pull the weights in when re clipping your lines and then you let the rope out to set the weight back into operating position. Most people purchase these and think they have to cut the line to install them, this video is showing how I set the ring over the weight snubber without having to cut and crimp new ends on the line (which you need special tools and parts to do).

It has worked great, no issues. I was skeptical at first until my dealer pulled the cover off another name brand and showed me they are the same minus cosmetics and some minor differences, I didnt know Tohatsu made most smaller outboards worldwide. I am used to older 50s-70s era stuff. The only thing I would do different is buy the 8 horse rather than the 6horse. It is a bit more but the 8horse is a twin cylinder and much smoother running than the single 6horse when trolling for long periods. The 6 still gets the job done though !

You need to cut the line anyway to put on braided line.

Thanks for the tip. This video is mainly for people installing the Scotty downrigger weight retrieval system on their Scotty downrigger with the stock hook and snubber. When I bought mine I was surprised to find people being told/shown they had to cut their line and purchase a terminal repair kit and crimping pliers adding 25-75$ to this simple 15$ 10 minute upgrade.

It seems it would be faster to cut and recrimp than to make hot water and wait for it to heat up the snubber and soap push with a nut driver etc

Very true, it may be faster if you have the proper crimping pliers and a terminal kit. For those who don't have the tools getting a tub of hot water may be faster than driving back to the store. The nice thing is if this works you don't have to waste a terminal kit just to install the retrievers.
