How to Adjust the Brake on a Manual Scotty Downrigger

Спорт

In this video we show you how to adjust the brake on a Scotty manual downrigger. The downrigger we are working on in this video is a Scotty 1085 Manual downrigger. Please be mindful to set your brake loose if you intend to fish near the bottom where I hang up might occur.

Huge THANK YOU for the video explaining how the brake is supposed to work. My brake handle was spinning the entire way around the base to the left then would try to stop and then spin around again....my downrigger has a plastic bar stopper on the right side that is supposed to help stop the brake handle as the spool gets tighter and locks up...had to adjust where stopper for handle was(needed to move it forward) and needed to tighten spool so brake locked up sooner. Brake now seems to work without handle spinning around the base.

Hi ..good video, please tell me what model and name is your RAIL MOUNT for your rod holders?

  • @FougereFamilyAdventures

Are you referring to the rod holders on the downrigger boom or the oar locks? For the oar locks/rail mount rod holders, they are from Scotty Fishing Products. They are the oar lock mounts.

Thank you. I had to take mine apart and I got the brake drag to weak and I had to tighten it a little. Good idea to have it just right so if you do catch the bottom it "won't" be ripped off the boat!

Great video, ran into the exact issue. Also, how did you attach the wire to the spool when spooling it. Cant seem to find the correct way and have to respool mine. Would love to know how yours is done. Than you!

You can use a crimp to hold the wire on the spool

@@FougereFamilyAdventures do you just do one wrap around the spool then crimp the tag end to the main wire. Or do you put the wire through those 2 little holes on the bottom edge of the spool, crimp, and then wind the rest on? Thanks again

@@AndrewMcGhie there will be some holes in the spool. This is where you feed your wire thru. Then you can crimp it. Check out my other KZread videos for how I crimp my cable.
