I love this, but I really envy it as well. Seeing how someone has already found their style, and how comfortable they are with it is very inspiering, but it's also a little frustrating when you yourself are still struggling with that aspect. Seeing all of these different sketchbooks, especially this one, really inspieres and motivates me to work harder in finding my style.

Love it. Man, I wish I had time to draw, but I always get so much homework in high school that I rarely get any time to draw, with the times I get to draw being in Advanced Drawing and Painting class and the little bit of free time I have that I am usually too tired to do anything. I'm seriously going to pump some drawings out in the summer before my senior year.

+Gamer Girlz Channel 2.0 seriously, good luck. i didnt qualify for any because my GPA was a 2.8 instead of 3.0, because i spent most of my time learning about art and animation. its a private for profit school www.nacacnet.org/issues-action/LegislativeNews/Pages/For-Profit-Colleges.aspx so if 230,000$ for 4 years of education sounds like a dandy plan go for it, if you get a scholarship it probably wont be for much since their goal is to make shit tons of money. for every 4 students who spend 4 years there, 1 million dollars is generated.... with a student body of 3,670 students... while SVA is my dream school next to calarts, i can go to both, my portfolios both got accepted but due to their costs, it is impossible to attend right away, i advise the San Jose State university! it is a total of 44,000$ for 4 years of education!!! less than 1 year at SVA! and a industry professional was telling me about how great that school is doing at producing students into the industry for animation! and its just 40 miles south of Calarts so transferring after 2 years at san jose might be a good option financially.

+collin corbean i am trying to spread the word about corrupt for profit schools. especially with an art degree!!! the RISKIEST DEGREE YOU CAN GET is 250k like are you serious!?... and they know some students parents are crazy enough to pay it or some students who dont fully understand the amount of insane debt that is, they will pay it off till their dead. like the house i live in isnt even half the price and my mom has been paying it since i was a child. i am very pissed off because i have worked my ass off staying up all night drawing 8 hoursish a day to get into these schools and to find out theres a small sign on the front of the doors that says "rich kids only, begone peasant". like talk about unfair access to an amazing education. this is my point of view and i think its a very blunt pov soo if you disagree then yeah disagree with me, but this is exactly what i faced this past year.

+rich torres I totally agree with you! I'm fortunate enough to afford the art school in my area. But I do agree a quarter of a million dollars is steep. It all comes down to the useless crap taught in grade school that could be substituted with trades and how to live life and the skills required.

What is it with col-erase? Are they just REALLY good pencils or what? I swear, almost every sketchbook video, someone mentions using col-erase. I just ordered some to try almost entirely because of these videos. I think one thing I need to work on is speed of drawing. I draw so slow that it takes me ages to get anything down on the page. So by the time I finish one sketch, I'm all ready for a break. And I'm talking little sketches. Like one of those little tiny character doodles in this video would take me a good 30-45 minutes. I'd have to pre-plan every line and stuff. Also probably why most of my drawings look stiff. There's no "flow" to any of my stuff. I have to plan everything and sketch the entire underlying structure like I'm trying to draw a blueprint for a building or something. And I have no idea how to fix that. The normal solution would be to draw a lot, but I already do. I also don't understand how people can come up with ideas so fast and easily. I'm lucky if i get 1-2 ideas a month. Most of my drawings are just basic heads because of it.

Prismacolor pencils are some of the best colored pencils on the market, col-erase is their line of erasable colored pencils. The fact that they are erasable is a feature that is desirable for a lot of people. Personally I like using a black col erase pencil over graphite because graphite tends to smudge onto neighboring pages.

Do gesture drawings and try to break away a bit from the rigid system of sketching taught to beginners, it's good in the beginning but later on many artists seem to develop their own process and sketching methods which often contain far looser guidelines. You can also try and use your sketchbook specifically to try and figure out a way to draw that feels more organic to you since it's not that important if there are mistakes and only use a very carefully laid out structure for your finished works. (Example: I might just do a lose pencil sketch before inking in my sketchbook but I'll usually work with two pencil layers before inking when drawing comic pages, one for basic structure and the second to define the final lines)

Wacom Cintiqs are pretty expensive for beginners. Normally with a drawing tablet you move the stylus or pen across the tablet and this moves the cursor on your screen, but with a Cintiq the tablet IS the screen. Professionals tend to prefer Wacom Cintiqs because you get a more natural fluid line when you know exactly where the line is going to end up because you are drawing directly on top of your screen.

Unless its your style of line, its better to have more "confident" or less jaggedy lines. It helps with detailed drawings and looking more professional, as well as showing great progression. Drawing less jaggedy also makes the drawing more clear and cleaner. Drawing "straight" or none jagged lines helps a lot. I know this is late, and that I'm not him, but I hoped I helped!

+Hans Müller Sorry to bother you, but to get more experience, would it be better to draw one big drawing on a page, or a lot of smaller drawing on a page. Thanks, Mr. Muller!

Hans Müller Oh, I've tried that. I've drawn for hours and hours and hours, for years. Still could never learn it. Some people just don't have any talent, I'm one of those people.

Loopmodsminecraft It is more about personal preference. I really like to doodle multiple drawings at one paper and try out as much things as possible, like multiple angels of one character. But from time to time it's good to make a medium drawing where you invest a bit of time to settle down the things you've learned. If you just began to draw I'd say doodle more to try out as much as possible.
