Scott’s Bushwhacker Camper Tour

The SE Bushwhacker camper gathering gave us the opportunity to tour and review some amazing teardrop trailers. I couldn't believe the mods and rebuilds that people were able to do to their Bushwhacker campers. Check out Scott's camping trailer and truck for some inspiration!

Thanks. Took some planning, an old "borrowed" aluminum road sign and a day of work. After a few more trips,we'll pare down to necessities. We now have 2 lists: shore power and off-grid.

@@DIYOutdoorLife Thank you, Brian! It was a great trip. However, I’m glad to be back so I can continue on with the teardrop until winter. Hoping to take it up into the upper peninsula next week if the weather starts to calm down a bit. My Millard mattress is out for delivery today, so I’m really looking forward to that. You do a great job! I don’t miss an episode.

Great tongue box but propane should be low vented, one spark from the battery and your going to have a problem.

With those galley tarps, be VERY CAREFUL during even light winds. The corners of the galley door are VERY SHARP and will slice that tarp like butter. I learned this the hard way taking my brand-new tarp down with the door open (I know, I'm a dummy). One day use, one patch. Also, during my last boon dock (three nights on my 40 acres for my "Winter Nights" celebration) the breeze picked up and right away the windward side of the tarp headed right for that sharp corner of the galley door and I heard a slight rub-zipper sound....YIKES! I red-necked some paper towel pads using electrical tape for both corners fast! I must say, I'm not sold on the galley tarps; one big expensive fragile sail. I am however TOTALLY sold on my Clam structure! Totally dig my Clam! Propane fire pit inside (no real fires in there folks...c'mon) and some or all of the optional add-on sides makes it a whole new oasis.

Oh yea… been there. I don’t use a galley cover but have had similar scenarios. Pool noodles or cut tennis balls become our friends.. lol I definitely 2nd the Clam Set as a must!

Goodness! Lots of work invested in that setup. I'd love to know how long it takes to set all that up once you get to the campsite. I think those tongue storage boxes are one of the most unique mods I've seen. That's "out of the box" thinking!

Man that's like a giant AIR DAMN ... totally takes away the point of the trailer curved surface. He's got a market tent on the side of the unit and a cover over the kitchen area ... then they sleep in the Truck? The man is wasting his quality trailer. "IMO" He should just buy a small camping trailer, keep the truck and add a set of roof racks.Mate you need to step up and help this lost soul...LOL

Haha. I think the spirit here is most important. His wife hated camping, he made mods that allowed her to love it. By sleeping separate, who knows, maybe he snores bad, they came up with a system that is getting them traveling and enjoying the outdoors. He must be thrilled, a life indoors is no fun. Thanks for swinging by.

Only see -2 mpg with giant air damage. I'm a snorer who enjoys being my wife...especially seeing and doing things we love outdoors while giving her some comforts of home. I still solo camp/hunt out of the truck without the camper. Like a said in the video, compromise on both sides makes a marriage work...30 years! We'll be celebrating that in a luxury hotel.

@@gmantrash8709 I forgot the snoring issues... many years ago, my cousin flew into Sydney, where I now live and we flew down to New Zealand for a five week holiday. They rented a small camper van as we were touring both Islands... I bought a 3 man pup tent (you can't bring in a tent that's been used, infections...crops). Both my cousin and I grew up together in Michigan and we both snore, so to keep the peace I always slept in the tent... plus I left the two love birds alone at night...LOL I still don't understand the idea of killing the dynamics of an "air wing" teardrop for a giant square box. I'd even consider converting a cargo trailer or adding a Black Wolf tent...to the side of the teardrop. I have one that's 12 years old, all canvas and strong as all get out. They are expensive, but I only got mine re-waterproofed last year as a precaution as my sons and grand kids still borrow it ... Just a thought. 30 years ... me my third wife 26 years ... she puts up with this old solder and can she cook ... I eat great ...LOL

@@gmantrash8709 Also I'm cutting out my floor and welding up a drop section the depth of my axle so we can sit up... I used to be a bump and paint man/teacher ... so I've strip out the unit and I'm redoing everything, including gussets in the frame and some larger wheels and off road tires. But a big square Box isn't in my plans...LOL
