    @@patriot4786 to be fair to the lads over the last 10 years, as Dave pointed out in another comment, they’re only a battalion strong in each regiment, not two or three so they’re stretched pretty thin, and most of them have seen the most combat of any generation since the Second World War whilst maintaining their ceremonial duties

    @@patriot4786 ya ok it better than to but back in the 1970s the British army did jack shite and 1977 was the silver jubilee so it was 12 months of drill and square bashing for that year. Everything in context please

    Oh my god, this is perfect unlike the Troopings of the recent years. That arm swing is absolutely perfect, foot drill and dressing etc... Outstanding work!

    ***** I agree, there is something rather more snappy about this generation than todays. My uncle was in the fighting skins and died on his 19th birthday in Anzio.

    this is when there were 2 battalions, and a lot more experienced in drill, now a days the British army is very active so they don't as much time..

    Is it me, or does this parade look sharper than the more recent parades. Soldiers appear more confident, better turned out. Just something more original somehow.

    @Anthony Yair. These are the products of the Guards Depot Pirbright before it closed in the late 80s and Guards basic training was transferred to the Infantry Training Centre at Catterick where, sadly, the Guards ethos has been lost. And it shows. That said, they had much more time to practise for the Troop then than they have today.

    Wee johno that’s me and I’m front and centre Scot’s guards I remember this as if it was only yesterday and take note not a fat guardsmen on parade we were all tall and slim and instep carrying a weapon made for drill slr also let me add a full compliment of men what a sight

    Thanks for uploading, I would have watched this parade as a child with my father on the BBC. He would have been recording it with a microphone directly onto tape and we had to keep quiet throughout. Beautiful memories for me and inspired me to sign up, 26 years service. Faugh a Ballagh

    Before the guards marched from Wellington Barracks they used to march from Chelsea barracks the distance they marched from start to finish is just under 5 Miles ( This was my second trooping of the colour)

    Always tickets for families for rehearsals but on THE day, much scarcer. Policemen in ceremonial uniforms and not only route liners,but Square liners. The crowds were solid from kerb to park. Never saw combat policeman or a yellow jacketed trick cyclist and no need for concentric rows of barriers. Thank you, political "activists" for immeasurable improvement in the spectacle...or not.

    no midgets either, mind you back then the guards did require a height requirement, but in the 1990's early 2000's it was relaxed...

    @@columnedfox5508 Everything was "relaxed" to make the army "more inclusive", that is why the present-day army (totally corrupted by the "woke" ideology) would not last a week in serious combat against tough, well-trained troops.

    It just goes to show how much the army has changed The drill is so much better then now Its sad but the British army has been cut to the bone

    "band and drums" seems to have been the original and usual order...drum major Dean of the Irish guards used the command "massed bands drums and pipes" when he was senior drum major...after that it became "massed bands"....the reason why wont be in the Household division standing orders ,im sure of that....marty

    Choice of marches is brilliant. Too many bland pieces today. Particularly like the Sullivan medley. "In spite of all temptations to belong to other nations...he remains an Englishman"...Not sure if this wouldn't lead to cancellation today!
