Today is the day after Prince Philips funeral. He was so young here and the Queen is beautiful as always. She was truly blessed with a long and happy marriage. 💕🇿🇦

Yes designating Colonels in Chief given the plethora of Peers of the Realm at the time must have been a challenge. That being said, RIP Earl Mountbatten, Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh and her Majesty QE2.

Before the guards marched from Wellington Barracks they used to march from Chelsea barracks the distance they marched from start to finish is just under 5 Miles ( This was my second trooping of the colour)

Watching this today, June 18th 2015 the 200th Anniversary of the great Battle of Waterloo in Belgium during the Napoleonic Wars, the battle between the British/Allied Army and the Prussians against Napoleons French Army saw peace restored to Europe and Napoleon exiled to St. Helena where he died in 1821. The Light Companies of the two Battalions of the Scots Guards garrisoned Hougoumont under Lieutenant-Colonel James Macdonnell and defended this key position on the battlefield with exemplary spirit.

Such a difference between the drill movements in the early footage in black and white, the marching step and the hip level arm swing when compared to today's much more "energetic" drill a slightly longer pace and the arm swung almost to shoulder height. They looked almost casual but the dressing was impressive.

Comparing a lot of parades,, and always mentioning (as a German), that the British are the best in it, this one amazed me in an extraordinary manner. Her Majesty makes a very good figure in that performance, well, she always does even as a 92 years old lady, but here she seems to be as fit as any soldier in the army. She gave then and gives today, a very special dignity to the anyway hoary szene.

It's not just cuts that are the problem we can't even maintain the numbers we are supposed to have now, in reality the army is just not attractive anymore mainly because back in the day it was an alternative to the dole, now the dole is very attractive. Then of course when young men look at how serving soldiers are being treated in today's army then there's no wonder they don't want to join up, when my brother went to desert Storm in 91, he returned home after 7 months to find a letter waiting for him informing him that he was in arrears with his council tax!! He had been in a war zone for the best part of 7 months lost friends in the process and comes back to a bill for council tax!! And that was 1991!! Today you hear about men receiving letters informing them that they have lost their jobs whilst in the middle of the tour.. It's a damn disgrace how we treat our service men and women

This is how an historical event should be presented. Full of information, interestingly done and with due respect and solemnity. The current commentators could do with a day watching and listening to the Master. Especially sad to hear the Dimbleby brothers making such a poor job of it these days given how their father was also a Master of commentary.

Interesting to see that at about 4.40 on the march past in quick time that arms were swung to waist high.

it was correct at the time for the swing of the arms to be this way , on the turn at the halt, and at the present arms the knee was not raised to the horizontal either

why is the Earl Mountbatten riding with the royal colonels? I know he was very close with the queen but since 1918, he holds no royal titles
