Scorpion ADF 9000 Helmet Review - An overlooked Adventure Helmet?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Scorpion ADF 9000 sits at the top of Scorpions Adventure Style Helmet range and has such has some really nice features as well as a very premium feel and construction. Its got a composite shell, drop-down sun shield and a quick release visor system, all the stuff that adventure riders seem to look for. You can also mount your Action cam with the included kit and it comes with a Pinlock in the box and an additional tinted visor. So it seems the ADF 9000 hits the mark in terms of construction and features, but how did it perform out in the real world? Is this an overlooked Adventure Helmet that should be on more people's short list?

As you pointed out - it's very subjective with the helmets. I bought this one just before Christmas and didn't had many chances to try it out but now I do have few hours of observations with it. Here are my 2 cents: Pros: 1. Of course price for the money is very good given the extras that you get with it. 2. In size M it comes around 1500 gr. which is more than ok for me. 3. The integrated sun visor mechanism is really easy to operate once you get used to it. 4. It has the newest safety standard and 3 shell sizes. 5. You can use the tinted visor all day and night as it is not so tinted in reality. (this is one of the negatives as well) 6. It comes with a very handy but not good quality helmet bag. This is priceless for me as I have some 15 min walk to the garage. Cons: 1. I found the fit and finish on the cheap side...it feels somehow plastic and not such a good quality. 2. Strangely for me but at the moment that I removed the "chin curtain" the helmet felt better for my fit. 3. The air infusion system hardly makes a difference in the fit of the helmet for me. With my pretty "round like a ball" head I would say that it feels spot on in the front but I do feel some air gap just above the top of the head...again very individual thing. 4. it is quite warm helmet for my liking as the visor was fogging in temperatures around 10 degrees C and slow speed (no mater of the open/closed front vent). 5. The included tint visor and the internal sunscreen altogether aren't so much "tinted". Both of them together are less tinted compared with my old lid tinted visor. 6. The construction of the visor is such that you have the feeling that it's crack-open when it's fully closed. There is strangely shaped edge of the visor causes this optic illusion for me. Finally I will give it a try for 2024 and see how it will be in a full day of riding and much warmer weather.

Can you point me what chin curtain? I feel a bit of pressure in the cheeks area and it's quite annoying, though the helmet has less than 20 hours of use.

@@connectorxp the chin curtain is just the lower part preventing air to get to your chin and face…the textile lower part that is removable. However, even if you remove it there will be no difference to your chicks as the chin curtain doesn’t make a contact with them. You may try not to inflate the chicks pads but no idea if it will work for you.

I like Scorpion. Currently using their ADX2 adventure-modular and while I’m quite happy with the helmet as such I wish they’d have put in another notch in the “city open”-position. As it stands when it’s properly cold and raining my glasses always fog up and when I open the visor to the first position the rain gets in and soaks my face. Other than that (and the 1950g) I’m very happy with Scorpion as a whole. Always seem to find them at great prices in my parts as well.

Hi, great review and spot on. I have this helmet and it fits a little bit tight as it's new and when I went up a size it was to big. So I'm hoping it beds in. Like you I have no vibrations from the peak but I did manage to lose one of the screws when I was messing with it. These are very hard to get from anywhere, I had to order a pack of 3 from Germany for a Scorpion VX helmet a Motorcross helmet and they fit thankfully.

Nice review mate. There are so few on YT or online in general it’s great to see you leading the way. I’ve got the more expensive XT9000 Carbon US version which is largely the same except for the internal tinted visor and exposed carbon. For some odd reason the EU market doesn’t get the exposed carbon but gets a useful tinted visor. I also have a longer oval head and had a hot spot up front that I had to work with by adding some additional strategically placed foam, got that sorted. Build quality is quite good, the finish is very nice, and it’s pretty darn light weight for the money. At first pass it seems like a good compromise in the US between low end ADV helmets and the big jump to Arai, Klim Krios Pro, and Shoei’s offering. I like that it came with a pin lock and a tinted shield but I generally don’t use either in favor sunglasses and popping open the shield slightly. One other dig, the pricing in the US is $530 USD which is a drag considering the EU gets a nearly identical helmet for considerably less. My principal gripe is, the ventilation is straight up abysmal. The chin vent is semi useful for defogging if you can keep it open but beyond that there is little air coming through for normal ventilation, and God help you if you put the camera mount on there. The forehead vents are nothing more than decoration, I tried making little air scoops to direct air in the ports, nothing. I went so far as to use leather punches to carefully remove the foam to encourage the air to move directly from the port to the grid in the top of the liner, nothing again. In order to get adequate ventilation one has to open the visor. The air movement is so bad, one 25* F morning in October while on the COBDR I forgot to close all of the vents but I never noticed. Had I done that with my Shoei, my head would have froze pretty quickly. My other minor gripe is the visor, while it’s spectacularly clear in the main area the lower edge makes things difficult to see clearly. It was very annoying at the beginning because the step is right where my gauge cluster and phone are in my view, but I go over it and now just move my head slightly. The air fit is a neat gimmick and maybe helps some folks, I have a slightly more round shaped face so pumping up the bladders does nothing but squish my cheeks I really want to like it, especially since it is a sharp looking lid, but the poor ventilation is a non-starter in the hot lower Midwest. I suspect it will get sold off once I decide on Arai XD or Klim Krios Pro.

I really wanted this helmet, but here in the US, we got the XT 9000, which didn't get that sweet red, white and blue color scheme, so I went for the plain white. I removed the chin curtain after seeing a video about how it can cause a build-up of carbon dioxide from exhaling as you breathe while stopped. Even with the chin curtain removed, I don't find the helmet to be particularly noisy, certainly not noisy enough to need ear plugs while riding, but my CRF300L Rally is a relatively quiet bike, too. Scorpion did well with the creation of the XT/ADF 9000. It's a very well thought out helmet.

As the owner of the AT950, , which is a modular, they seemed to address all the dislikes I have with mine. Namely, changing shields is a bit of a chore, it constantly fogs in almost any circumstance, and the sun shield makes reading a GPS a real challenge. Sadly, mine is barely a year old, so I guess I’ll have to wait awhile to switch up. Great no nonsense review as always Tony. Safe travels.

I wanted to buy this helmet since march last year but it didn't came in stock. In october I went to the closest shop (230 km from where I live) which physically had it in stock, to try on the sizes, to know what size to order. I didn't want to buy it right then, cause the Black/Silver Trail version wasn't in stock, and I wanted to see what the Black Friday deal would be. So Black Friday came, and I got it for 309 euros. Now I'm eagerly waiting for Spring to come, so I can try it out 😅
