Hmmm - I'm 77 and have a Taiwanese made 50cc scooter - BUT, when I was a young fellow at age 73, for my 74th birthday I treated myself to a 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 KRT ABS sport bike, and I'm still grinning with many smiles/mile. I use my scooter for local shopping trips to WalMart, Home Depot, etc., otherwise, if I need/want to ride on a highway, I use the Kawi. Anyway, whatever you're riding, ENJOY!!!

As soon as I sat on this old scooter to leave for the trip, it was the first time this scooter has been running for years. I didn't have a chance to get to know the bike and see if it was going to run okay for a long trip. It was like getting an old bike, going through the carb and other key systems and then hoping they all work okay when you start out. This was the biggest reason for my worries at the beginning. but I'm glad it made it ;). I'm glad you enjoyed. :)

Those Honda Elite 250s were really something in their day...typical Honda quality. There's a couple of weak spots with them though. The rubber boot that holds the carburetor to the cylinder head cracks due to constant vibration. Honda corrected this in later years with a bracket that goes from the valve cover to the carb to carry the weight. This next one is more subtle. There is a small coolant hose that goes to the carburetor to warm it up. It looks like a vacuum hose. If it splits or if the brass nipple pops out of the carb, you will lose all your coolant before you can say "oh shit." . This is what killed my Honda scooter. Good luck on your adventure.

Do you think a new China scooter is better or worse than the cheapest Harley? LOL I own a 1200 dollar 150cc China scooter. Bought because I could not find a used scooter in my area at all. Between tax, title, registration, insurance, getting licensed to ride it plus gear I'm up to 1800 in cost. It's great on gas which is 250 a gallon here. It's still half the price at least as the new Japanese or Taiwan brands. (Kymco, Sym)

@@daedalx Kymcos are not in the same class as China bikes. Kymco used to make all of Honda's parts for years and years and are based in Taiwan as well as is Sym which is a Kymco clone of high quality. You can trust Taiwan bikes as well as you can trust Honda but China is a whole other story. I just hope I got lucky with my purchase. The consensus of people who have bought them over the years suggest the quality is way better than they used to be.

Right on. Even on a new Harley it's a sketchy proposition. Harleys are bought for bling & style, sometimes they run ok too. There's just TONS of bikes that run better, look better & don't break down for a fraction of the cost of a Harley. Harley is truly the "Bud Lite 🎯 Target" of the motorcycle universe.

What does the foot pedal on that scooter do? Edit: Nevermind.. I found out.. a Brake. It's mandated to be on the right from what I've read.. I find that odd since cars have them on the left. I cannot find any scooter with both a foot brake and a foot accelerator pedal. I wonder how that would feel to drive.
