Lost With Mike | 80,000 Miles on a Honda Ruckus! | The Nosy Beagle Interviews

I discovered the "Lost With Mike" blog years ago while researching whether anyone else thinks riding small scooters for long distances is fun...well low and behold there was!
Mike's adventures (more than just scooter trips) are legendary. He decided young to actually live his life while he can, instead of working it all away in hopes of some payoff at the end. He also lives a simple, healthy, low-impact lifestyle, I think proving money is never really the reason holding us back.
Barry was inspired by Mike's tiny house projects, I was inspired by his epic adventures. I hope you all find this one inspiring too.
As always, thanks for watching. --Back Roads Brenton

PS: This video got demonetized due to using copy-writed songs. I probably would have only made a few bucks on it over time, but if you want to donate a few bucks toward the next adventure--would be much appreciated. A gallon or two of gas goes a long way on a Honda Ruckus (and a shanty boat) :)

Another Gem, these type of guys give you a benchmark for reality, don't need all the flash gear, just get out there and do it. Going slow via the backroads is the best way to travel.

If you are still in contact with Mike please tell him I said thank you. Years ago I saw the KZread, The Road Is Life/Honda Ruckus/eGarage, and the seed was planted. I had visions of disappearing on America's back roads on my Honda Ruckus. Years went by with severe work burnout. The Ruckus life was always on my mind but I ended up with, Me And My Royal Enfield, and a tent. I'm now happier than I've been in years and I owe much of it to Mike and his Ruckus. Please tell him thank you for me.

This actually blows me away. 35+ years ago I bought a new Honda Spree. Road it all around town and back and forth to work on nice days. I've raced bikes my whole life and maintain them well. After about 1500 miles , my motor needed a rebuild. Did that a couple times before it was just taken to the dump. Back then it was a $400.00 moped. But 80,000 freakin' miles , on basically the same motor? Wow!!

  • @backwatersandbackroads

The spree and the ruckus are apples and oranges. Spree is a 2 stroke. The Ruckus is a water cooled 4 stroke with all sorts of pretty fancy technology in it. Honda used it as a testing platform for other stuff they eventually used for their cars. Very tough little scooter. That said, I have a spree and love it. They weigh next to nothing.

At what mile did you have to replace the rings or did you get 80k miles without having to do any repairs except change the belt, tires and bulbs? I had to replace the rings at 14k. I lost a lot of compression which caused the oil to leak past the seals. I run it wide open nearly all the time. Local speed limits force me to ride at max speeds or get run off the road.

  • @aland1618
