Yeah, use to be my favorite company! To bad they sold out in 2004. Now they are made overseas, and the materials they use are not as good :( schrade is owned by Taylor now. The good thing is that they have been stepping up the game and making some nice products! Check out my schf14 video! Those schf line of knives are really nice quality! Thanks. -Kevin

Amazing price! Although you have to consider that bowies were made as fighting knives way back in the day, I have an Uncle Henry 181 15 inch bowie by schrade and I gotta say , It cuts wood well but I recommend you use a wood chopping tool instead of a precious bowie :))

I got that knife it rocks. Good for chopping, cutting ,etc. I take it to the woods with me every time I go. Ugly enough that I'm not scared to use it hard. Durable enough to take the punishment and shine. It retired many of my other bowie's.

Yes this knife is great because it is a big hunk of sturdy steel and very sharp. It is very cheap and only cost me $14. The only downside is the plastic handle that slips some. So tape it. But it will slice people up if you are in a self defense situation as it a Bowie knife is a fighting knife, not a friggin tool for wood like everyone acts like.

I've battoned wood with this and it's very capable...the relatively slender tip section handled the hits, although, I purposefully avoided it based on the length. The biggest drawback when battoning was the hand shock...even with gloves. But, I'm no sissy, so it was fine for short duration.

I can understand the thinness of the blade. The thin tip for a bowie or clip point in general is for piercing, stabbing etc. Also the knife's overall thinness is a plus in the weight of it being a bit lighter like an authentic Jim bowie knife. Not so masculine like todays standards. But the knife is still VERY formitable at just above 3/16ths which is preferred with large blades to me for its balance of cutting/chopping/batoning etc. Unlike the slightly overly thick quarter inch. Which is mainly a chopper and batoner with some roughness to the cutting tasks if not imaculantly sharpened.

The thing is tho brother, is that the Bowie was never meant as a survival knife, it was originally designed to be strong enough to penetrate a bull's skull. (Resin was attacked by the bull, and his knife didn't penetrate the head when he stabbed it, and was mauled) So he customized it, and made one much bigger and heavier so it would go through the thickness of bones, and gave one to his Brother too. Then Jimmy tweaked the design a bit, after the sand bar fight i think, and always going for bigger and badder. But my point is it was always a fighting knife, even from concept, and therefore can't be put in or judged along side proper "survival" knives. While they will still more then suffice for those tasks, it's sole purpose in the knife world is indeed fighting and killing, bulls or humans.

Hazza Big 1 it is made very well! The one thing it has going for it is it is sharp! If you are looking for a chopper or pry bar, this one isn't for you. A little to thin. Handle feels good, but no grip. Would be good to wrap. If you are looking for strong and cheap check out my 2 timber rattler videos. The timber rattler outlaw bowie is great for around 20 dollars us! Thanks for watching!
