It is a public charter. They are everywhere in Texas. I’ve taught in 2 separate charters in Texas in the past 5 years. I’m seeing as many issues in charters as I’ve seen teaching in 2 large urban school districts. I’m subbing to get by until my PTSD heals. By my calculations I will need to teach until I’m 97 years old to have the most modest of retirement. Good times!!

What are the parents doing?? We used to fight and have disagreements but nobody ever brought a gun to school. I mean wth is going on at home that these kids just have free access to firearms?

No they absolutely did in low socioeconomic areas. Metal detectors have been in schools longer than the general public realizes. They just didn’t work very well back then. It was also just understood that they weren’t meant to be used at school for personal problems. Even gang members understood that. It was one of their rules. Anything outside of schools were fair game, and even expected, so they were needed on the way to and home from school. It’s the climate of school shootings giving the impression that that’s the right way to solve your personal problems when it’s not. No one has that right, especially in a school. They should know better than to even test people’s anxiety like that these days.

It's not firearm access. Heck, we had them in our trucks in high school then went hunting afterwards. My dad had a gun club IN school! It's not access; it's mental health and something else that makes them use them for no reason...

Chances are the kid who brought the gun to school will get a Happy Meal and a new bicycle. Will kids have to start wearing clear backpacks at every school?

Ours already wears clear backpacks, uniforms, no hoodies. Jackets and sweaters only while seated in the classroom or leaving the building. No it’s not a private school.

@@denyshadials5702yes, the amount of time and energy spent on creating uniform dress codes and enforcing them is ridiculous. I am required to write up a 2nd grader because they didn’t wear a freaking belt with their uniform! It used to be just basic common sense dress code rules. But now it’s become an entire raison d’etre.

Home training is the key.To check kids room,book bag,however,it's sometimes difficult to even suspect a child,or sometimes,it's difficult on single parents,who having to work hard to make a living.Im not making excuses,it's so sad...Re :- School shootings. Plus other individuals who use guns irrationally,under the influence,thoughtless of a human life.

Oh my I substitute in DFW and I see this school pop up often looking for subs. I’ve been teaching for 20+ years and I cannot deal with anyone above 5th grade. Well, I should add could handle the middle schoolers but would go to jail.
