    THe best part of this performance is that ALL the kids were involved. He didn't just scoop up the kids who had musical talent, he made sure that EVERY kid had a role and could meaningfully contribute, and in a way that best showed their talents. And the kids were all having a lot of fun because of it.

    Umm ... hate to burst your bubble folks but Dewey is not real, nor are any of the child characters in the film. It's not "based on a true story" or anything like that. So .. the script-writers chose to include all the "kids"; they don't have siblings (because they're not real), and a kid almost certainly did NOT write the song.

    There's some understated irony here; The song originally planned for the battle was a spiteful ego trip about how he made his old band what they were and they were nothing without him. In the scene right before this, having gone through quite a bit of character development over the movie, he admits that Zach's song is better and they should go with that, basically giving his big moment to the kids instead. Zach's song, when listening to the lyrics, is basically a tribute to Jack Black's character and how he helped better them. So in the end he still ends up singing about his own accomplishments, it's just truly earned rather than being a boast.

    Underrated element of what makes this movie great is that it highlights how many people are key to the band's success besides just who's up on stage. Showing the roadies, the stage crew, the effects people having key moments really shows that Jack Black wants to highlight the whole crew it takes to really put on a rocking show, and highlight just how much those people matter. A great bit.

Tomika vocally expressed her sadness surrounding her weight, which led to her low self-esteem and confidence, and not having friends - and I'm sure her parents were painfully aware of this. Man this movie is so good. The lyrics telling how Dewey changed Zack’s life through rock and referring to him as the “magic man”. How he manages to change every single students’ life in a personal way, even the principal. I feel like they haven’t been able to make a movie quite like that recently and still allow it to have “soul” without feeling cheap or virtue-signally. They had nearly every race/demographic while STILL getting talented kids and not trying to pat themselves on the back like they would today. A masterpiece.

    @@Jeremy252 lol you even read the comment? I mentioned the diversity in SoR to show how they made such an amazing movie while weaving that additional aspect in so effortlessly. I don’t think all inclusion of diversity is virtue signaling lol I actually think Halle Bailey is super talented and made a great Ariel. I’m referring moreso to the current landscape of things SUCH AS the Oscars adding “Representation and Inclusion Standards” which literally require filmmakers to include “underrepresented” groups to check a box rather than because they’re the best for the job. If-like in the case of Halle Bailey-they do some “race swap” but still get someone super talented, I literally couldn’t care less about the race swapping itself.

    RIP! In May 2021, Kevin Clark died in an accident, aged 32. He was riding his bike in Chicago when he was struck by a car on May 26, TMZ reported. In a tribute on social media, Jack Black remembered Clark as a "beautiful soul" and said he was heartbroken by his death. Clark hadn't appeared in any films after School of Rock. Instead, he lived a relatively private life as a professional drummer for a band called Dreadwolf. He reunited with his former substitute teacher, Jack Black, in 2018.

    The best thing about this scene is that all the kids from Dewey's class got some screen time in the song even if they weren't directly on the main stage. Directing the lights and dry ice, or backstage enjoying the show, Richard Linklater knew to make sure their presence was known in the big moment.

    I dare say he's one of the actors/singers in show business who is taken the MOST seriously. He nails every performance. Humans are generally very good at creating a "yeah, but" argument and would literally find a way to say Jesus had drawbacks. But I don't think there is one soul who has ever considered that for Black.

    @@Thunda1986 sometime the obvious solution is the best solution. Take Creed for example. Adonis lost in the first movie for absolutely no reason other than to have another Rocky comparison. And that would have been fine if he faced Pretty Ricky Conlan in the sequel but that didn't happen. It's still a good movie but it would have been better had Adonis won.

  • @Sal_Sal27

    @Sal_Sal27

    2 жыл бұрын

    It's not always that simple. For this, my guess is that No Vacancies won because they were all adults (not that they didn't hold their own). It just wouldn't have been "right" to give the prize to a mostly-kid band over adults. In Star Wars AOTC, there were other considerations for Anakin Skywalker, but they chose Hayden Christensen because he and Natalie Portman looked great together. As for Creed, Pretty Ricky was technical and coordinated his whole career. Adonis has been fighting his whole life, but he never had technique and coordination mainly being that no one would train him. Then he meant Rocky and started gaining technique and coordination. But then, word got out that he's Apollo's son and he [pretty much] got slapped with an offer right there. Adonis was just REALLY starting right there, plus you got Pretty Ricky having reach, so Pretty Ricky winning that fight didn't/wouldn't not make sense.

  • @RomaroBrandon

    @RomaroBrandon

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@Sal_Sal27 ok but the kids had a bigger reaction than No Vacancies who laughed thinking they wouldn't be good especially with Dewey and we're proven wrong, even showing signs of shock. And you're right about Adonis but if he should have lost any fight it should have been the one in the sequel against Viktor Drago the first time (but I'm glad he didn't). Adonis didn't need to go the distance and lose to prove his talent. His Apollo's son and was trained by Rocky Balboa, a perfect recipe for success. Losing only makes sense from a realistic standpoint but it is a movie where the good guy should have came out on top. It's not like Bruised where Halle Berry ran out on her last fight and had to prove she's not a quiter. It's not a redemption story it's an origin story that should have saw Creed as the victor who would stay undefeated in the second movie and into the third, only losing to who is also undefeated if that person is more technical than him.
