Good tips. Lag is something that happens with a core powered swing, not something you do. You can control how much with more/less muscle tension in the wrists. Trying to hold the wrists hinged in order to create lag actually keys the muscles in the opposite direction of the hit.

Dear sir, recently i am practising get my left wrist bowed to compress the ball. And when i begin shallowing the shaft in the downswing, i would find no more lag remained. Is that the way should it be? Or lag and cupped wrist should be a pair?

A shortstop has lag in the side arm throw to 1st base. The right elbow leads the hands, the body keeps turning and finally the kinematic sequence(deceleration of the forearm) results in the acceleration of the hand holding the ball. The same kinematic sequence happens in the DS , if we let it happen. Right elbow leads with "pinkies higher than thumbs". Thank you, Gerry Hogan.

Come on people, pay attention before you comment. He does say no one good is trying to hold the angle, it just happens when the body moves correctly. Every new move starts off mechanical. That's how you learn the feel. After a while it will not be and you won't be thinking about it. I'm willing to watch videos you post for free to learn as well, so if you complain, please have a free video showing the right way on your channel.

I think this video was actually good. Martin clearly explained what lag is and what it isn't. To much instruction on youtube where the instructors try to create lag by somehow hold on to the angle. In my view lag is one of the most, if not the most, misunderstood concept of golf. Lag is an effect, not a cause and is created mainly by seperation of the upper and lower body at the turn.

I've never seen a sport where so many amateurs swear they know how to teach the game more than the golf professionals. Never fails, every video has a few know-it-alls in the comments crapping on the content. Did it ever occur to some of you that he's instructing on something that you perhaps did not have an issue with? People are different and have strengths and weaknesses in this game, and some find this information helpful. If you don't find the video helpful, move on and find someone that teaches the game the way you like. No one cares if you're a scratch golfer, I promise.

As a long time scratch player, one thing I learned the hard way is that you NEVER want to create lag. That is an invitation to disaster every time. Lag is the result of a good and aggressive golf swing. As one time touring pro golfer Ivan Gantz told me many times, a good golf swing is all about displaying emotion. A tour player does not drive the ball over 300 yards without putting some sporting emotion into that swing. It's a sport for God's sake. And lag just naturally occurs as a result of sport like aggressive action which includes the introduction of strong emotion. Or as Ivan always said in his own way.... "screw the fairway" as you swing. Even Tiger says he has to build up to the amount of emotion and resultant body stamina required for a touring pro golf swing. He claims it to be hard on his body unless he is in shape. Even Nicklaus has said many times, "straight I can teach, long I cannot". That is all about the build up of emotion in the swing..... Look at touring pros today. Many to most of them come clear off the ground or close ! The so-called "toe dancers".

No one can hold that Lag angle because the Lag angle is a result of getting all 5 levers in the Slot (Ben Hogans 5L). ie all five levers working in a common plane. (The Hogan Manual of Human Performance: GOLF, Gerry Hogan) Stop the madness. Lag is a result of swinging properly ... in the SLOT

WRONG -- the arms need to go out in front of the chest -- hands first and then you let your chest turn. This drill just encourages people who open their bodies up to early -- to even do it more. AWFUL AWFUL drill. Look at Rickie Fowler or Lydia Ko -- lag comes hands out in front while your head and chest is looking back.

They are coaching how to correct or compensate a bad golf swing which is confusing and unnecessarily putting a lot of bad information that is way out of context. Some of the information out there about golf swings is the opposite of what actually should be done. What happened to long irons (3 Iron, 4 Iron)? Bad information in general about “The golf swing” is what happened. Have a golf swing inline and yes straight to the target keeping the club face open to the ball. After that everything should be about target alignment and balance to promote very accurate golf shots. Well and the “Grip”.

Hi.....Yes im the GolfMyth buster. Lag.......? So you want use stiff shaft and then do all this and struggle your behind off to achieve ......"LAG" Why not just use flex shaft and get your lag for free.......Comon guys! You will argue....yeah but this and yeah but that. Im biblical! Go and proof yourself. Take a Driver with weak flex and hit the damn ball. I dare you. See what happens.....Ohh so it fade....Then adjust your swing.....to compensate! Lot of myths in golf that acctualy complicate it for players. With spinal cord fusion and limited spinal(28% less) turn....I adapted my swing. I dont suport the left arm straight myth. Connecting that to consistancy is just a theory! Most golfers cant achieve the straight vertical left arm...club perfect horizonal on top. It complicates golf......setting unrealistic demands...resulting in negative feedback! It takes REPITION.....PRACTICE......10 OOOs of shots to achieve a skill. I am convinced with the years of effort Tiger...Rory.....Phil..Rahm have dedicated and acnieved.....(Modern, popular swing dynamics).....that they would have done the same....had they started of with unconventional(arms only) type of swing. NOT KEEPING LEFT ARM STRAIGHT THROUGH OUT SWING. Golf has become showbiz.....looks....photo finish...media trends....brands.....and the IMAGE......is dominant. Lets see if my unconventional swing land the ClaretJug! Stick around till St.Andrews 2021.
