She violated the CBA and displayed a lack of ethics. That is the school boards business and she may justly get fired for it. Damn shame but that is the reality of being a union employee and a teacher.

We get a certain number of sick and personal days in our contract…we earn those days, they are not allowed to tell us how and when we can use them. If we have them available, we can use them. End of story

Because the union has a CBA with the schools district. Not sure if you have ever managed union employees but you have to hold the CBA or you’re screwed.

Haha, sick leave is because we are sick of the job.

I’m happy to be in a district that has no sick leave. It called paid teacher time off. No one has to be ill and prove it.

It’s cruel when they can’t enjoy the same life that the rest of us get to have. It’s bullshit and every board and parent know it. Yes, that's what we have. I've been docked a lot of money taking care of my sick kids or my sick self (because our allocated days aren't enough), but if someone isn't sick and doesn't have sick parents or sick kids, then let em party!

Should have, could have, and would have, right? Many contracts are written that way. Point of all this being her’s was not. She got busted for lying and violating the CBA. It really is that simple.

She needed a mental health day and that concert was her relief from the b.s. she deals with!

Mental health leave should be a category when requesting a sub - it's not. So people use their sick leave, which we can't even cash in upon retirement. Wth

@@sjdenning1 our parish (county) created a sick leave bank that teachers could donate 1 day to. This could be used by anyone who donated to the sick bank and went on medical leave but used all of their sick leave time and still needed more leave. We found out that upon the end of each fiscal year, the school board would reallocate the money from that budge into the general fund to be used for other purposes! The bank would start over at $0! Let’s talk about how unethical and illegal

I've been teaching 24 years. I have so much unused sick leave that I could literally be out for the entire school year and then some. If i come back from the airport, wirh my carry-on bag wearing a concert t-shirt, they better not say a damn thing.

It was common practice to burn sick that you would never give paid for right before retiring but sadly I retiredin the post covid crisis when there were no subs and I just couldn't dump classes on my overworked team. Walked off with 40 days of unused leave.

So kids can have their parents knowingly abuse their absence bc they're too tired from being up late, pull them from school to get nails done, excuse as absence bc they go see Taylor Swift, excuse sn absence to go on vacation, excuse an absense for a competition not related to academics etc and miss learning. But a teacher can't create sub plans where students still learn in their absence to themself be able to do anything remotely close one time for which multiple excused absences from students, many of which miss multiple days that aren't sick but are "sick".... Students (same in multiple instances) actually miss any kind of learning = ok Teacher miss a day to enjoy life but still has sub plans so kids still get learning = fired Yeah, that seems fair.......NOT!!!

In NC, you never lose your days. They are carried over until retirement. You can retire early or get a pay out.

I never had children and rarely used sick days because in the old days our was it took time to get things together especially when you have special ed so just go to school sick. I am on the brink of retirement and find out that i have about 2 years of sick days but will only be paid for half!!!

🙀 Now THAT is crazy!! Work a little longer and take at least two days every week! I was a long term Sub for a teacher who was ready to retire, and just burned off her days! I worked EVERY day for almost a semester. It got my feet in the door, in that county. Stayed and taught 31 years.
