Just imagine if Scatman John's health was fine when this came out... that song had potential to become a hit. A good music video would help a lot... but we never got a hit song from third album because John's health was deteriorating quickly...

It was actually released in 1999, but it was posthumously re-released in 2000. The 2000 version and the 1999 are the same, but the 2000 version includes less remixes and in the bottom of the album cover it says "In Loving Memory Of Scatman John". Listen to the Scatman was also a posthumous release. It includes the songs from Scatman John's first album "John Larkin" and some unreleased songs. They are all from 1986 except the Listen to the Scatman song. The Listen to the Scatman song was made by Lars Daniel Therkelsen and Soren Siegumfeldt in 2001.

Here's a fun fact. Scatmambo was recorded in July 1998 and it got released a month later. So this was before he got diagnosed with lung cancer.

Actually this isn't the last song he recorded. The last song he ever recorded was "Sorry seems to be the hardest word" which was recorded in the summer of 1999 a little while before the album was released. Hearing that song you can clearly understand and hear the weakness in his voice. He couldn't perform by himself since the lung cancer he was suffering took a toll on him(which ultimately killed him in December 1999, three months after this album's release)so the female vocalist was there to assist him.

The album released in summer 1999 so it's really unlikely he would've rushed this, and the overall tone of SSTBTHW is a depressing one I dont think his voice had much to do with it since he had female vocals in other songs too. Scatmambo released as it's own album late 1998 so I could count it off as not being his last song, his last song to me is Ichi Ni san go since I think he'd like to go out with a dance song and it's the last thing he ever released while alive

Lou Bega got inspired by Scatman John. Without Scatmambo Lou Bega's Mambo No.5 wouldn't exist. It's the same for Scatman & Hatman because Lou Bega wouldn't know Scatman John.
