I know it’s sort of a joke song, but Scatman John actually had a pretty inspirational life. He was born with a stutter that made him too nervous to sing, so he played piano for most of his career. It was only in his 50s that he decided to become a scat performer and made this song as a way to inspire kids with stutters. It made him a worldwide hit, (especially in Japan for some reason) and he did two more notable songs before he died of lung cancer a few years later at 57. He was completely at peace when he passed, declaring: ‘Whatever God wants is fine by me ... I've had the very best life. I have tasted beauty.’ Scatman John. Legend. Edit: Cheers to everyone who liked. May the Scatman bless every one of ye.

Ferghal Icious As far as I’m aware, a friend recommended him to do something fun. Scatman thought why not and did it to kind of make modern music at the time. And yes, he was an alcoholic as a kid so that’s why he hung out at bars playing piano :)

Scatman had a purpose in his life and he did what was he was born for, to be a magnificent, charming, but also positive man. He made his life a blast especially at its peak in his final 5 years, and I respect that. Scatman is the definiton of inspiration, overcoming fears and boundaries, via using his disabilities to his advantage like making songs just to make everyones day easier or even better. And over all, just being a wonderful person in general, if he had lived longer, he might've done more to make our days. R.I.P Scatman John, what a true legend of a person to have ever lived.

Rest In Peace, Scatman John March 13,1942-December 3,1999
This man's story is actually inspiring and sad. He has had problems with stutter from his youth, though he loved jazz. Scatman wanted to create music, but feared that he won't be accepted due to stutter. He almost dies from drug overdose, but his wife saves his life and they both start working. Even though he stuttered, Scatman manages to do something never before done: combining scatting and euro-pop. In his last years he becomes very sick and loses consciosness while performing. He also says "If a Scatman can do, so can you", trying to inspire everyone in this world. "Scatman's world" also advertises international, interracial and interhuman Peace.

For 15 years this song comes and goes in my head. I often break into the opening skabpabopobibodboidabo thing at random when I'm alone. Onlookers might assume I am having a seizure, but I do it in secret.
Intemporal, international, legend.
The song is whimsical yet the scatman is VERY serious with his message.

"In case you didn't know, John "Scatman" Larkin suffered from a severe stutter by the time he learned to speak which led to an emotionally traumatic childhood. He never gave up though and he turned his "problem" to an awesome way of singing "Scat singing". He is an example to all people who suffer from any kind of problem to never give up and chase their dreams" - Yoyo ( unkown )

It's hard to believe that this man used to have a stutter so painful that he could barely speak. Being able to overcome stuttering and then rap like this is like climbing Mt. Everest from the inside.

2024 and this is still a banger. Look at the joy the Scatman brings to all these people in the video. Their dancing is a physical manifestation of his warmth and love.
