    I've seen Paul Simon capo the 5th Fret. I need to reexamine that footage to see if he has his guitar tuned a step lower, or if he's in concert tune and doesn't have the upper register in his vocals he had when young.

  • @robsguitarschool

    @robsguitarschool

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi mnpd3, great to hear from you! Yeah, that very well could be the case. I know that I capo lower at times to make it easier to sing. You may already know this, but one thing you can do on KZread is adjust the settings of a video to play back slower but still maintain the same pitch - very handy when you're learning a song! Try adjusting to 50% or 75% speed so you can play along and verify. ~ Rob.

    So em 11 is actually bm 11 with capo 7 ?

  • @robsguitarschool

    @robsguitarschool

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Alan, great to hear from you! Yes, with the capo at the 7th fret it actually is a Bm11. When teaching with a capo on it's easier to think of the chord by it's shape than what it actually is musically. Example: If I play an open G chord shape with the capo at the 7th fret, I'm actually playing a D chord, but if I say D people really get confused. In this case it's best to say "play a G chord with the capo at the 7th fret". If people ask for further clarification, then I'll say it's a D chord. This does become important when you're playing with other musicians. :) Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy playing! Rob

    Hi Edmumd, absolutely you can play it however you want. If you'd like, just do one strum on each chord to get the feel of the song. If you're then feeling good on that, try picking one or two notes. If that feels good, add more notes. Please remember, you don't have to play a song exactly as it was originally played. You can play it however you want. The most important this to have fun playing guitar, no matter how you play or what your ability level! ~ Rob

The most important thing is that you have fun - that's what guitar is all about. :) Tip - a lot of times when I work on something hard but can't get it quite right, I find that if I come back to it a couple months later, I'm able to play it better.
